ARCHIVED 5Yr Old Testing Diet Waiting Results
beachbirdie replied to clare89's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Are you saying that you have changed your son's diet, and now he is hungrier than ever? I've heard a lot of people say that happens to them when they go on the gluten-free diet. -
ARCHIVED Pretty Upset Right Now...
beachbirdie replied to crissy82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have a list of the tests your doctor did? And what the actual results were? If you are really needing that diagnosis, you can go back on a gluten-filled diet for a longer period and get the tests without having your doc order them. I use Open Original Shared Link. They are currently charging $200 for a very good panel which includes both the... -
ARCHIVED Transglutaminase / Meat Glue
beachbirdie replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ugh. First "pink slime", now this. Not a happy consumer, am I! Making more and more of my stuff from "fresh"...I get some really great hand-made sausage seasonings (for Italian and breakfast sausage) from a Open Original Shared Link, as well as ketchup spice blend. Have made a lot of my own tomato sauce from my own tomatoes. Thinking... -
ARCHIVED Little Confused Re Lab Results
beachbirdie replied to carteem's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With all due respect to their education, your "medical field" family members should know that as you found, false positives almost never occur, it is false negatives that are quite a bit more common. Especially with the DGP, they are very sensitive and very specific. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test
beachbirdie replied to txgal748's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First of all, welcome to the forum. You found a great place for support and information! Next, a question. It is difficult to interpret the tests without a reference range which should be included on your result record. Can you post the range, please? The ranges can differ from one lab to another, so that information is much needed before anyone can... -
ARCHIVED I Have Colitis So How Can I Know High Ttg Iga Is Celiac?
beachbirdie replied to josie656's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It might even be worth trying the Open Original Shared Link or Open Original Shared Link diets. They are a little more challenging to undertake as they are grain-free, sugar-free, and dairy-limited. But many people with Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, and other intestinal diseases/infections have seen great improvements. Ugh. I just went back and re-read... -
ARCHIVED New Here... Negative Results?
beachbirdie replied to preshington's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are those the only tests they did? They have done insufficient testing. You need a total serum IgA, and gliadin antibodies (deamidated gliadin peptides IgG, IgA). They also should do anti-EMA. Are you having symptoms? -
ARCHIVED Any Low On Vit D?
beachbirdie replied to color-me-confused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not as low as you, but I was down in the teens. I was put on 5,000 units, and after 6 weeks my level of D had DROPPED. I was on 10,000 for 3 months, and got my level up to the low normal range and was backed down to 5,000 units. I'm hoping now that I'm eating a gluten-free diet I will do better, but I've been struggling with it for a year. -
ARCHIVED Asymptomatic Celiac
beachbirdie replied to klosmo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Two things come to mind. First, if they are basing their judgment of thyroid function on TSH alone, they are not doing you any favors. Do you get copies of your blood work results? That is an important place to start. Doctors will tell you that you are "normal" and you might not be in a place that is normal for YOU. Most thyroid patients who are under... -
ARCHIVED I Have Colitis So How Can I Know High Ttg Iga Is Celiac?
beachbirdie replied to josie656's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's another perspective, and I hope other more scientifically literate will jump in and tell me if I'm off the wall... From all the research/reading I have been doing over the last few months, celiac seems to present differently in different people. There also appears to be a spectrum on which people can fall, depending on circumstances/genetics/biology... -
ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?
beachbirdie replied to beachbirdie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LOL, thanks for the confidence! Funny that you used to live there! What a small world we live in! It's where I grew up, and I miss a lot of things about it, but it got so crowded after the 60s... I remember when they used to dry all the prunes and apricots out in fields by the side of the road. Now those fields are full of IBM, Oracle, Apple... -
ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?
beachbirdie replied to beachbirdie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks again! My mom lives in the San Francisco Bay Area (California) near Cupertino. -
ARCHIVED Such Thing As To Many Vitamins?
beachbirdie replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Megadoses should be done under medical supervision. I think that I might stick with the lower intake of D3 unless I had blood tests showing a deficiency. Vitamin D can be very toxic at high levels though I have read that toxicity is much less likely at doses under 5,000 units. Lots of in-depth info Open Original Shared Link. -
ARCHIVED Newbie With A Question
beachbirdie replied to razzle51's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One of my big downfalls. And Lundberg Rice Chips. -
ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?
beachbirdie replied to beachbirdie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know how to thank you all! You have given me awesome ideas and I will start making calls on Monday. Sadly, I've found only one store that delivers, and the second time I ordered from them they didn't have most of the stuff I was able to get the first time. A chef and shopper would solve that for sure. -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test
beachbirdie replied to Mdork's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ditto what squirmingitch said. Also, did you get thyroid testing? -
ARCHIVED Is There A Reason To Get A Diagnosis?
beachbirdie replied to Pisqualie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you really need a diagnosis for some reason then go for the testing. If you plan to go for testing, you will need to be back on a gluten-containing diet for several weeks to several months. Damage can be spotty, and if you have been eating gluten-free, you have likely started to heal and they might miss any damage. How are you feeling now... -
ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?
beachbirdie replied to beachbirdie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Sylvia! Processed stuff is not my first choice, but it's the best I can do for now and the gluten free cafe stuff passed her taste testing. I wish I could get her to move here with me but so far she is really resisting, though most of her friends have passed on now and there isn't much family left in her area. -
ARCHIVED Help With Understanding My Blood Test
beachbirdie replied to tTG-killer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm a little surprised they tested you before 6 months was up. Though it looks like the trend is downward, so that is good. Are you still taking the Protonix? Did you read anything about it before you started taking it? You can find a little info on side effects Open Original Shared Link as well as side effect information, such as vomiting, diarrhea... -
ARCHIVED Adult Onset, Newly Diagnosed
beachbirdie replied to GladGirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Got my fingers crossed for your enzyme reduction! So glad to know you are feeling so good! -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Just Diagnosed And I Have A Couple Questions
beachbirdie replied to scstampin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think at 3 your daughter's TSH is supposed to be pretty close to the adult range. A pediatric doc can confirm that, or Dr. Google as well . Thing is, since you are also dealing with the pretty definite diagnosis of celiac, the thyroid issue could be secondary to the celiac. If the thyroid is not dangerously out of whack, you can discuss with the doc... -
ARCHIVED Push For More Testing?
beachbirdie replied to JamTart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, you need a serum IgA to make sure your IgA testing is valid. However, if you are wanting to have a completely valid test, you should do all the tests at the same time. What do you mean by "resolved" thyroiditis? Meaning you have thyroiditis in which your thyroid levels are treated to normal, or you had one of the silent/post-partum/deQuervain... -
ARCHIVED Adult Onset, Newly Diagnosed
beachbirdie replied to GladGirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are aware that "fatty liver disease" (or, non-alcoholic cirrhosis) is strongly related to celiac? -
ARCHIVED Confused About Symptoms!
beachbirdie replied to oceania's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't answer your question about the timing of symptoms after glutening because I'm not that kind of sensitive. I can speak to your joint pain. When my thyroid levels are out of whack, my joints hurt! And that's bad because I'm a pianist, and in the past my fingers sometimes hurt so bad I could not play. My shoulders and knees hurt too. I thought... -
ARCHIVED Should I Mention Celiac To My Doctor?
beachbirdie replied to MrsMcC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just throwing these out there too...gall bladder and thyroid. They can have similar symptoms to celiac, and actually they all seem to travel together so it's good to check for all of them!
