  1. Welcome to the forum! Sorry I can't answer your question straight up, but we need a little more information about your tests. Would you please post the reference ranges? Every lab that does blood testing will have it's own set of ranges for "normal" and it's impossible to say what a result means without having that! Sorry you've been struggling so...
  2. I hear you! I got a norovirus a few short years ago because of shaking hands in church with a lady who told me how sick she'd been during the week and that Sunday in church was her first day out of bed. My intestines haven't been the same since.
  3. LOL, great idea. Here is another "thank you" post. I have met a couple of people recently who just got diagnosed with celiac, I have sent them right to the "newbie 101" topic because it is so wonderful for helping new folks get started on the diet. A friend of my daughter's mother-in-law just got diagnosed, and told how she walked into the produce...
  4. It looks kind of like they might have done gliadin antibodies, total IgA, and a tissue transglutaminase, but I'm not familiar with the way they listed them so I'm not really sure. If those were celiac tests, they are negative. Doesn't mean you don't have a gluten problem as they didn't test all that they should have. However, your thyroid test is really...
  5. I like some of the Bob's Red Mill products, like their pizza crust and their wonderful homemade bread mix. I also like their gluten-free pancake mix. I haven't liked the cake mixes so well. Bob's does have a gluten-free packing facility, and they test their products, but only to the threshold of 19 parts per million. You can read about their gluten...
  6. Well, you have quite a few things going on there. You could simply try a gluten-free diet and see if it helps you feel better. And that means giving up your beer. Beer contains gluten. There are a few gluten-free beers out there; Redbridge and Bard's are probably the most easily available. Also one called New Grist but that one is pretty light and...
  7. I would definitely push hard for thyroid testing. I would not assume Grave's/hyperthyroid just because of the tachycardia, I suffered that with my hypothyroid/Hashimoto's disease. I've heard some people suggest that the hyperthyroid state of a Hashi's patient is actually caused by sudden release of thyroid hormone as glandular tissue is destroyed. I don...
  8. Unfortunately, a number of conditions share symptoms with celiac, so it's hard to pin down! If you can get a copy of the results from tests that were done, and post the results here, folks can give you more advice about what to do next. Thyroid can create some of this, and they might tell you "normal" when you are at a point that treatment might help...
  9. Hi Pam, and welcome to the forum. To give you a short answer, you might look into the Open Original Shared Link or the Open Original Shared Link ("Gut and Psychology Syndrome") diet. They have helped many people for whom gluten-free is not sufficient. They are challenging diets, but really good ones. If you've had overgrowth of candida, it could really...
  10. If you have been eating truly gluten free, it is very possible that it influenced your bloodwork. If you are not eating gluten, the doctors cannot easily tell whether you have celiac. It is also possible they didn't do enough tests. Do you know which blood tests they did? There would be no point doing a biopsy "just in case". Your gluten free diet...
  11. My family and I have been on a two-year journey of discovery regarding possible wheat sensitivity. I've posted before about my son who seemed like he might have dermatitis herpetiformis, and had many digestive problems (including terrible heartburn) that all resolved on a gluten-free diet. I also talked about: My middle daughter has terrible digestive...
  12. How did your appointment go? Sorry you did not get the answers you hoped for before you had to go. It is certainly reasonable to ask for the genetic test, you just ask for genetic testing for celiac. The genetic test does not diagnose the disease, simply shows whether a person has the tendency towards it or not. The majority of people with the gene...
  13. Wow, they ran you through a lot! I pray they find answers and are able to help you! Sounds like at least they are taking your issues seriously and not blowing you off. That is great.
  14. Have you been checked out for other issues? Diabetes and thyroid can cause delayed wound healing. However, as so many others have said, your body is going through a LOT as it heals from old damage and adjusts to your new diet. You probably were ill for quite some time, and it will take time to heal! Hang in there, and hang out here! This is such a...
  15. There are four types of kidney stone. Do you know which kind you have? Is this something new to you, or have you passed stones before? By "ton of water" can you say about how much that is? Do you drink a lot of other beverages such as coffee or soda?
  16. To use multi-quote, you just click the "multi-quote" button after each post you wish to include. Then go down to the bottom and hit the big "add reply" button. All of the quotes will appear in the reply screen, then you can cut out any extraneous stuff you don't want. Don't mess with the "quote" or "/quote" commands though. Make sure the bracketed "quote...
  17. Sjogren's is autoimmune, and you tested positive for that. Your positive ANA is an indicator of ANY autoimmune condition, not just thyroid. The only way to diagnose Hashimoto's is with antibody testing, they should to both anti-TPO (anti-thyroid peroxidase) and anti-thyroglobulin (TgAb) antibodies. With Hashi's you can be all over the place as...
  18. I cannot take probiotics with FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) in them, I get a lot of gut pain.
  19. Immune globulin A is NOT A CELIAC TEST! What are they doing? Your son is IgA deficient, and as an earlier poster said, he needs to be tested with IgG versions of tests.
  20. If your mom is willing to help you, ask her to get paper copies of all your test results. There are some good people here who can tell you more about what they mean if you post your blood test numbers and biopsy results (when you get them). Welcome! You came to a great place for information and support! And, you did not say anything stupid, and you...
  21. If your doctor acknowledges you might have damage that looks like the "beginning stages" of celiac, he is wrong to send you on your way thinking everything is hunky dory. If you have celiac, the damage will not "go away", it will continue to get worse. Lucky is the person who knows they are celiac, before they suffer the terrible damage and discomfort...
  22. Yes, you can have normal TSH/T3/T4 and have Hashimoto's. Hashi's tests are anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) and anti-thyroglubulin (TgAb). If they did not do both, they cannot diagnose Hashimoto's. Which T3/T4 tests have they run? They should have done "free" T3 and "free" T4, totals don't tell you much. And just how normal is your TSH? Have you...
  23. Ummm...not much to interpret here. Your results leave no doubt, you are quite positive for celiac. Nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin D, Iron, protein, are very common with celiac. Hopefully as you start your gluten-free journey, you will heal well and not need to supplement so heavily.
  24. You guessed correctly. The TtG IgA is not sufficient. They should at least have run a total serum IgA along with your TtG. You might be one of the percentage who are IgA deficient, rendering your test useless. You should get a full celiac panel: TtG IgA (if you turn out to be IgA deficient, you will also need the IgG version of this test) Deamidated...
  25. Yes, I have lost that much that fast. It was all water. I have some serious fluid retention when I eat gluten, and after 3 or 4 days gluten free, it all washes out. Still waiting to decide if I want to go through any more testing, so still glutening. And still swollen. It's sure uncomfortable {sigh}.
