  1. Tinkyada!!!! As good as normal pasta!
  2. The kids' doctor said - "they don't show any symptoms, they don't need to be tested." Idiot. We're gonna change doctors.
  3. My kids had a checkup at the same clinic whgere I was dxd. We asked their doc about having them tested. He said, no. Not necessary. Doctors.
  4. Well thanks for all the notes, folks... I scheduled (tentatively) the endoscopy for Oct 14th. I'm already nervous. 20 minutes of continuous gag reflex = FUN FUN FUN. Also, this gastro looked at my overall IgA levels and guess what - they are *normal*. Which means that my initial blood diagnosis of celiac disease is now even more suspect - my gliadin...
  5. It is not that bad at all. I would rather have 100 of these tests than have that horrible endoscope rammed down my throat.
  6. Yes, I understand that. I guess what I'm surprised at is that this is saying that 43% of the population carries the genes but less than 1% develops the disease. Given that it is likely that I have celiac disease, the odds are going to be higher than 43%, in all likelihood, that I have one of those genetic markers. So I'm probably wasting my money by doing...
  7. Now here is something from the enterolab web site that really confuses me and is giving me big doubts about doing the gene test: My comments in red.
  8. I am REALLY considering the DNA tests through Kimball Genetics or the like. It seems to me that if those come back positive for either of the two genes then I know I have it, and I would not have to do the gluten challenge. If they come back negative, then I know it's not celiac disease. The only bummer is I have to pay for this, but it is starting to...
  9. Here is my story: Dxd April 2005 w/ celiac disease based on blood work ONLY, and symptoms, of course. However the tests were not conclusive: gliadin IgA - normal gliadin IgG - high trasnglutamase tTG - borderline Went gluten-free, saw the occasional watery D disappear, also have not had bad cramps like before. But I still have very loose...
  10. Laurel: I'm sorry to hear that. The waiter's behavior was not cool. The other thing that sucks is that he would probably not act that way with a male customer. If I was treated like that I would have probably lost my temper. He certainly would have felt the impact when he collected his tip. You should call the manager and complain. Then hopefully the...
  11. Boy can I relate. Sad to say but this celiac disease has caused me to crawl back in my shell a bit, so to speak. I just avoid situations where this will come up. Them: "Want to come to lunch with us today?" Me: "No, I have some errands I have to run. Thanks" That is so much easier than explaining why we HAVE to go to PF Changs, etc, and dealing...
  12. Interesting! Since going gluten-free, wine has been one of my "rewards" (if I cannot have beer, I will have some good wine every night!!). Well, I also sleep very poorly and wake up several times a night, and generally feel like crap: headaches, body aches, dizzy all day long. I guess it is time to try an alchohol avoidance experiment....
  13. I too have been gluten-free since April and I don't feel much better. The only change is that the D is generally gone, but I still have loose stools 9/10 days. The painful stabbing cramps are gone too, but I am still achy and lethargic and have a headache and neck pain everyday, all day. Look into the lactose. I am have found that getting a sizeable amount...
  14. No I never had the endoscopy, just blood work, but it sounds like I'm going to get one in the near future. He wants to rule out collagenous celiac and lymphoma. Jeez, those are two SCARY diseases to have.
  15. Hey Rachel - What a coincidence, I also saw a GI for the first time today after being gluten-free for 5 months! I saw him because I continue to have loose BMs and I'm concerned that I am not 'normal' yet. In two days they are going to do the barium swallow and small bowel follow-through. He mentioned lymphoma (yikes!) but I'm glad that he will be...
  16. Someone mentioned Johnsonville when discussing brats - I hadn't seen anything "official" on thier site so I wrote them.
  17. Someone mentioned brats... BRATS! There are gluten-free brats???? Please tell me what kind! I'll be eternally grateful and won't rub it in when my Vikings win the NFC north this year!
  18. I have always been a bit of an introvert, but have, as I got older, tried to come out of my shell a bit. celiac disease has turned me right back into a hermit. Oh well. At least I have a family now.
  19. I hear ya. Dxd this last April and gluten-free since. I am 38 and I LOVE FOOD and I love to eat out and travel. In fact the shock to my body that likely started my celiac was 2.5 years earlier when I was living in Singapore for 3 months and eating lots of incredible food - food that occasionally made me sick - some exotic bug or parasite likely kicked...
  20. Well, when I "go out" for lunch it means I go to the grocery store nearest to work, grab some fruit, some gluten-free sliced chicken, some Lays Stax, some cheese, maybe a Snickers bar and a diet Coke. Then I sit and eat it in the car. Yep, that is how I "eat lunch out." Otherwise, leftovers.
  21. gluten-free since April and I feel the same way pretty much every day. Does not always coincide with a feeling of hunger, though. I just keep hoping that someday this gluten-free diet is going to pay off and I will start feeling like a normal person again with no fatigue, dizziness, and bizzare stools. At least the d has stopped.
  22. Since we are on a roll here (get it? on a ROLL?) I will ask another gross question - does anyone have the stuff that seems to come out more or less ok but in the bowl just kind of disintegrates? This morning little pieces of it were breaking off and floating up to the top. What on earth is going on with that? I hope there is a day someday when I can stop...
  23. Well ever since going gluten-free I go once a day, and it happens about 30 mins after my morning coffee, and when the need strikes, it is a very urgent one. Better go or else! But about 1/10 days, I am constipated for the day and go later in the afternoon. Usually the constipated days it is a more normalish stool. In the AM, when it is urgent, it tends...
  24. A few questions for the experts.... 1. Any idea what % of celiacs have casein problems? 2. Is brain fog and lethargy a typical casein reaction? 3. To those who know they have casein issues, were you tested for this, or did you determine it by eliminating it from the diet? I still get the most amazing bouts of lightheadedness that I cannoot seem...
