ARCHIVED Incomplete Testing, Stupid Nurse!
maximoo replied to maximoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes Meg you are right. I've learned almost everything from this forum or from the links the members have posted. I love this site. And of course with any forum you still have to weed out the unnecessary stuff (like trolls, etc) I find for the most part everything is legitimate, informative & educational. This site ROCKS! -
ARCHIVED Some More Results In
maximoo replied to Meg123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From what I understand the endo can have a 30% false positive rate. It cannot always be seen so thats a misnomer. They can only takes samples from a short section like 6 inches but damage could be elsewhere along the 20+ feet of intestinal track. So if you have antibodies most people will just go gluten-free & retest the blood every 6 mths if the... -
ARCHIVED Pizza Bagels With Udi's.
maximoo replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
i cant remember if I've seen udi' crusts. I didn't know they made them. I will look for them. -
Hi all: After last week's disaster with kinnickinnick pizza crusts I decided to try making pizza on udi's bagels & they were pretty good! I know its not a new invention but its something decent the kids could eat. Now the bagels are pre-sliced & unfortunately not evenly so one side was thin & crispy & the other side was thick with a slight...

ARCHIVED Incomplete Testing, Stupid Nurse!
maximoo posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello all: After my teens tested for high antibodies I went to the clinic & requested that I be tested as well. The nurse practitioner had never before ordered a celiac panel & had to look it up. This woman was in her 60's. Anyway her handwriting was so bad I wasn't really sure what she ordered. Well I got the results back & she had ordered... -
ARCHIVED Jello Gelatin, Gluten Free?
maximoo replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
@,Stanley, that reminds me of when i was in elementary school & chicken was served for lunch. I picked at the piece of chicken & left the skin, fatty bits, etc. A classmate asked me if I was done, and I said "yes" then she took my chicken scraps & ate everything but the bone. I was amazed & grossed out. She was from a different country... -
ARCHIVED Jello Gelatin, Gluten Free?
maximoo replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
sawyer I have read many sources and all concur that jello is made from the hides not other parts/tissue. In any event it is nasty and I'll never eat it again. Karen I agree that ancestors wasted nothing but in modern times we know better or should know better. Now all the by products(eyes, talons, feathers, etc) are put in pet food. -
ARCHIVED Jello Gelatin, Gluten Free?
maximoo replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Jello is made from the hide of animals like goats, pigs, horses. Once I found that out I will never eat or let my kids eat it again. Many people do not care and will continue to eat it but really theres no nutritional value in it, its not filling, Its just like jellied kool aid! Hospitals should discontinue feeding jello to their patients IMHO It is... -

I'm feeling brave, and want to try to make biscuits. I bought biscuit cutters but am afraid to use the bisquick gluten-free mix b/c of how crumbly the cookies came out. Has anybody ever made biscuits with it? If so were they dry? Is there anything I can add to the mix that will make them light & fluffy? I also have Pamela's mix which I haven...

Tucks is nothing but a pad soaked in witch hazel. A bottle of witch hazel is around $2. Tucks is way more expensive. Do try the witch hazel. miconozole cream or ointment might be better. U can get it OTC or get a prescription strength from yr Dr. Since the raw vegs worked for you maybe you can add them to yr gluten-free diet. Im sure you'll continue... -

ARCHIVED Breads & Rolls
maximoo replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
the problem with the mission corn tortillas is that they break apart & they taste like crumbly cardboard! we tried both white & yellow versions. Yuck, yuck, yuck! Also bit the bullet & bought udis hamburger rolls. They cost more than the hamburger meat!!! 4 rolls in a pack @ $4.50! The taste is ok but they are too thick. They should be... -

ARCHIVED Teen Advantage Complete Multivitamin, For Him
maximoo replied to Iansmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was shocked that the flintstones vitamins aren't gluten-free. Re the iron--so get iron levels chkd before any supplementation. If he needs iron, buy a separate slow acting iron tab. The regular iron tabs cause very dark stools & constipation. Slow acting is much better. Also get his vit D levels chkd it is very common to have a deficiency -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
maximoo replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
made bacon, hash browns, & Vans gluten-free waffles. The waffles are really dry. We sprinkled cinnamon/sugar as DD wanted cinnamon waffles. Anybody know how to make cinnamon waffles that aren't dry as a bone? or a brand that isn't dry like vans? DD rarely eats breakfast in the morning going to school. Now that its summer I'll be experimenting... -

how do you feel now being gluten-free for 9 dys? did you stop the raw veg diet? I did research on anal itching/burning for a family member recently & one idea I came across was to apply witch hazel to the tissue when cleaning up. Not sure if it works but it couldn't do any more harm could it? I also read it may be yeast related and perhaps... -

Altho there is 20+ ft of intestine the pediatric GI told me he only takes samples from a 6 in area--that the endocope doesn't go around all those tightly wound twists & turns. Another procedure/test is needed to test any further into the intestines, & is usually not recommended. (well for kids anyway) How many samples did your GI take & was... -

6 wks is insane! What kind of health care system do you have down under? Is is socialized like the UK & Canada? Or do you pay thru the nose like us Americans? As far as I know there is no other disorder that would make you show antibodies to gluten. If I am wrong then somebody please correct me. I can understand your reasoning for getting the...
