  1. Irish, did you send the letter certified? Your Quack can always claim he did not get it if it's not certified. There was an episode of Golden Girls where Dorothy wasn't well & every dr. was dismissive. Finally she got a dx of chronic fatique syndrome & she ran into the last dr who she saw at a restaurant. He had told her she was depressed &...
  2. Betty crocker frostings are gluten-free at least the chocolate one is. You can chk the labels if you want a different flavor.
  3. All interesting replies but I kind of knew what the replies would be. Shroom: remember we are talking about NON symptomatic ppl. Naturally if there is a reaction of any sort, or positive antibody tests, or proof of malabsorption goodbye gluten4ever. Jestgar said "Keep in mind that the antibodies in your blood don't show up until there has been some...
  4. Some of you may think I am nuts for thinking this or asking this but what the hell here it goes: Disclaimer: I am in no way advising anybody to do this. If a NON symptomatic celiac eats gluten free & their antibodies are in normal range (via regular blood tests) I think it may be ok to occasionally have a little glutenous treat. I think...
  5. I came across this article with a primer of the different flours & what they are best used for. I thought it deserved a little space here. Open Original Shared Link
  6. DD has med brown hair with copper highlights & freckles--fair/olive skin. DS has black hair--no freckles & tan (light brwn) skin. Both positive for gluten antibodies. No official DX.
  7. You will have to find out who makes the hot dogs- I would assume Kirklands but I could be wrong. Once you found out who makes them you can call the company. However I do believe hot dogs for the most part are gluten-free. We like hebrew national, b/c it actually have a little less sodium than other hot dogs & they taste better too . Yeah they are...
  8. We go to the second run theater where the price is either $1 or $4 depending on the day. Due to the outrageously priced items I have always brought my own snacks/drinks for me & the kids. However DD really loves movie popcorn & I will splurge on a $5 small that is really worth .25 cents. lol There is no chance of cc as far as I can see. The popcorn...
  9. My DD was dx'd a year ago & had no GI symptoms but she hadn't grown since her prior checkup so "failure to thrive" was marked on her chart as she was sent to the endocrinologist for further eval. Anyway, it took me a while to digest it & she went gluten-free starting in jun & started to grow. She grew 2.5 inches & jumped 2 sizes in shoes...
  10. Did you go back on gluten prior to the biopsy? Or were you gluten-free up till the time you were scoped?
  11. Penn state has many campuses--are they all good for celiacs? Which 1 is ur DS going to?
  12. what does his pediatrician say? Does your son have a distended belly? Demand your son be tested for celiac, and brainstorm with Dr. why your son is so skinny. In any event if your pediatrician isn't looking for a cause then chg Drs.Good Luck!
  13. Thx Peter I added 2 more options. I just created the poll off the top of my head, and there is certainly room for improvement And yes many Arabics are from africa. One of my very best friends is arabic born in Morocco which of course is in africa. My own ancestry is European--irish, spanish & french.
  14. I went to a gluten-free expo today & was surprised to see that 95% of the people who attended were white ( and over 60!) And I would say there were about 3 000 people. I am white in my 40's but have a "cosmopolitan" family. It just got me thinking why there were hardly any other types of people in attendance. I have heard/read that it is people of European...
  15. go to the director! start with an email. I too have county ins & had a little bit of a hard time with them but I persisted & eventually got tested. So put on your toughest armor,& go get' em!( it duzn't hurt to exaggerate a little --for the purposes of getting tested of course) I know you are anxious to feel better but you need to consider...

  17. If you are on food stamps oftentimes you qualify for other help as well.--like free cell phone or help with utilities. Most states have a "211" help line. They will refer you to all available help in your area. Good luck!
  18. hysterectomies are the #1 unnecessary operation in the US. What are ur symptoms concerning your uterus? You could go on a trial gluten free for a month. Be vigilent, beware of cross contamination or you will not truly know if going gluten-free helps you. However if you want to get the blood test 1st (celiac panel) and I recommend that you do, do not...
  19. If my dog were in your kitchen he would sit patiently & wait (like a bear waits for a salmon upstream) for the toast to magically pop in his mouth (& he wouldn't care if its too hot ) lol.....
