My blood test was negative. I went gluten free with my daughter and within two days felt better. Months later, the doctor, in all his wisdom, thought I should go back on gluten for two months so they could do an endoscopy. I wouldn't do it. They did the genetic test which came back positive. The genetic test is just a blood draw and it was covered by insurance...

ARCHIVED Archer Farms Chips Gluten Free?
SarahJimMarcy replied to GFNewbie2011's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think I checked with Target and they are not. There is a cross contamination issue. -
My doctor recommends the Paleo books by Loren Conrad. (That's what I think the author's name is.) He says Conrad is the guy who did the research and actually lived with a native tribe somewhere to figure it out. Hope that's helpful. When I find the books, I'll post the author's actual name!

ARCHIVED Why Aren't Doctors Up To Speed?
SarahJimMarcy replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes - Dr. Chris Foley in Vadnais Heights. His clinic is called Minnesota Natural Medicine. He books out pretty far so get on his calendar and plan around it! I'd love to hear how it goes for you. -
ARCHIVED Why Aren't Doctors Up To Speed?
SarahJimMarcy replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've met with an MD/ND here in the Twin Cities, MN, area who I wish I would have seen sooner. He thinks everyone has celiac, to some degree, and he called our local GI doctor franchise "a colonoscopy factory". I appreciate his irreverence! He also recommends the paleo diet. I'm starting to investigate... -
Recently, I got my genetic testing back for celiac. It was positive. I wasn't surprised, and since I don't know my family history, it was nice to have that piece of the puzzle in place. I had gone gluten free last April with my daughter, and after 2 days, I started to feel better. But, in 14 years, I went to see probably 8 to 10 different doctors -...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, But Processed With Wheat?
SarahJimMarcy replied to Linus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome, and know that the first few months are the most overwhelming. We are nearly 5 months in, and now, it seems like second nature. My daughter is 14. We avoid all foods that are manufactured in a facility that processes wheat. It's just safer. SuperTarget has a good gluten-free pasta that turns out well as long as you follow the cooking instructions... -
ARCHIVED Gall Bladder Problems?
SarahJimMarcy replied to moose07's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can tell you I got my gall bladder out 14 years ago, have had stomach problems since then, and now, having gone gluten free, finally feel better. -

He is a Jack Russel and he loves me more than my husband and daughter combined! He sends love to you, too, because there's plenty to go around. :-) It's so great that you're out there giving love to shelter dogs. I hope it makes you feel a little better every day. -

ARCHIVED Is There A Difference?
SarahJimMarcy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We've been gluten free for about 4 months. I tested negative via blood test but went gluten free to support my daughter. The amazing thing is, I feel a ton better. After gall bladder removal 13 years ago, all the doctors could say about daily diarrhea and upset stomach was that it can take a while for things to settle down after gall bladder surgery. Um,... -

ARCHIVED Not Sure Should Get Pregnant--Too Old?
SarahJimMarcy replied to glutout's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
An OB/GYN can test your FSH level and let you know where you're at in terms of number of eggs left, etc. They look for anything under 24, I believe. FSH = Follicle Stimulating Hormone. My sister in law had a baby at 40. I could not. You never know. I am adopted and am so thankful to both moms, though I've never met one of them. Big decisions, and I wish you... -
It's really hard to traipse from one specialist to another, but I think your next step would be seeing a GI doctor. They could re-test you through a blood test for celiac then move on to an upper endoscopy if needed. Your symptoms are all symptoms my daughter had, and she was diagnosed (after many, many, many different doctor appointments) 4 months ago. We...

ARCHIVED Intolerant Or Anxious?
SarahJimMarcy replied to Februaryrich's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have heard again and again that a certain stressful situation can trigger celiac/gluten intolerance. It seems it can be lurking around in your body for a while, then all of a sudden, the symptoms kick in. Mono or the food poisoning sounds like the start of yours. All of the symptoms you have are symptoms my daughter had, and she was diagnosed with celiac... -
I find that a lot of salad dressings have gluten in them. Lighthouse brand is one that doesn't. Maybe if you try bringing your own salad dressing and leaving it in the fridge at work, you can still order in a gluten-free salad?

ARCHIVED New, Stressed, And Confused
SarahJimMarcy replied to CurlyCyn83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I tested negative for celiac, yet over a decade's worth of stomach problems are gone now that I've gone gluten free. My family keeps pushing bread on me ("The Italians have been eating bread for hundreds of years and they're healthy") but I just say that I feel much better now that I am gluten free. It's strange but I find that most people will support you... -
ARCHIVED Felt Great, Got Scared
SarahJimMarcy replied to swcom120's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a similar feeling - not related to celiac - but after a tremendously difficult year (almost lost my husband, daughter and Mom; promoted at work with three employee slots to fill, etc), I decided to declare the next year The Year of Fun. As part of that, we went to Disney World. I was sitting outside Italy at Epcot watching a parade. I felt this strange... -

ARCHIVED Marketplace Foods
SarahJimMarcy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Went to a family reunion in Hayward, WI and contacted Marketplace Foods in advance to see what they have. I am from the Twin Cities, and I have to go to three different stores to get what we need. Marketplace Foods had it all in one place! A wonderful store with a huge selection all in one place. Just wanted to share!
