  1. Welcome Fairydust! Wow, sounds like you have a lot going on... but you have taken the all important first step and started the process by making that appointment with your doctor. Going gluten free is a process that can be as difficult or as easy as you choose to make it in a lot of respects, but the advice given by rosetapper is good - a diet of natural...
  2. Dogs can be so naughty! I had a spoodle (spaniel poodle cross) who would take food out of your hand while you weren't looking. But she was so gentle that often you didn't notice! She'd also eat off a fork. She had a particular hatred of my cellphone though. One day I left it at home and the alarm on it went off (and kept going off). She managed...
  3. Wow, that's a major decision Sara... and well done you and your family for making it. It's hard to factor in the increased costs of some of the foods that you will need to change over, but keep at it. Your family will get used to the change in diet and soon those things that are so expensive to buy gluten free will be gone from your regular rotation and...
  4. Breakfast is whatever you eat at the start of the day... and yours actually contained a breakfast cereal... sounds perfect to me! After only 2 hours sleep last night I kicked the day off with some home made chocolate pudding (the custard variety) made with 72% cocoa solids chocolate and lashings of cocoa... a little goes a looooong way
  5. But Jaffas are delicious Mushroom... I got the spoons from a place in Auckland but figure they must be available the world over... hang on a tick... Found them on Amazon... the company name is Think Bamboo and the spoon you are looking for is the B20, but the B19 is the same thing without the hole.
  6. Quinoa for breakfast, lunch and dinner... so many applications! Also juiced beetroot with pineapple and lemon... mmmmm. I was always a pretty equal opportunity eater so there's nothing too new though.
  7. Lol Mushroom. I'm the opposite... lots of filling for the cups, not a lot of ribcage on which to rest 'em... if the band size starts with 12 or 14 (34 or 36 in old money) then it often doesn't quite go high enough up the alphabet The very, very best fitter I've ever met is in a little shop in Howick - she's the absolute business and won't let you purchase...
  8. Everyone has their moments. I've been gluten free for over 2 years and I STILL have the occasional meltdown, complete with tears! It can be set off by the silliest things! But keeping a sense of humour is a very helpful weapon, regardless of what you are eating (or not eating). I'm lucky to be able to laugh at myself and remind myself of just how much...
  9. Wow Poppi! That's a fantastic achievement. My aim this year is a couple of days on the mountain skiing. I wasn't much of a skier before dx and going gluten free - perhaps this will be the magic bullet that allows me to do double black diamond runs with ease?? But seriously - to have put the effort into the healing and to be reaping the rewards...
  10. I Feel Good - James Brown
  11. Yep, I'm in Auckland, but don't hold that against me Bra shopping... there is a subject dear to my heart... ladies - proper fitting makes all the difference in the world - I've been known to stop people in the street and let them know why their bra is not fitting properly Back fat is NOT PRETTY! West Aucklanders make POW look quite refined don't...
  12. *pops head around door of thread* Is this where psilly people can come and chatter? Look out board, my fingers are twitching!
  13. Thanks for the welcome guys. I'll see you over there soon I'm sure
  14. Hooray! Eclairs are one of the things I mourned... and I'm going to be testing out this recipe just as soon as I get back to my kitchen. Thanks for the link.
  15. KIWI--My apologies! I added an edit to the song game post. EDITED TO ADD:: OHMYGOSH... I just realized, you probably meant that it was also covered by Frank Sinatra...in which case, I humbly apologize. Please forgive?? I did not make the connection until now. Celiac brain...so sorry!!!

  16. My Funny Valentine - Ella Fitzgerald version is my favorite
  17. Hi everyone! I'm signing in from Auckland, New Zealand. Have been diagnosed for about 3 years and mostly manage to avoid being glutened... mostly. I'm a keen cook and on a mission to make my favorite foods gluten free without sacrificing the texture or taste Mostly I think I succeed (my work colleagues would never know the difference and I use...
  18. Wow, what a lot of amazing people! At the moment I'm a part time mum (every second week) and a database administrator on a short contract. I'm busily looking for work. In the past I've been: A newspaper delivery person A fast food worker A nanny A chef A housemother/tutor in a girls boarding school (the most fun questions you've ever...
  19. Teriyaki chicken on rice. Served with broccoli and beans for me and carrot sticks and celery for Mr Man. Last night was roasted pork belly (with crackle), roasted potatoes, steamed broccoli and carrots. Followed up with a yummy rich chilled chocolate custard/pudding. nom, nom, nom.
  20. I'm a fiend for kitchen gadgets. If it plugs in or fills a drawer then there's every chance I have it! Thank goodness the kitchen is ALL MINE! Bwahahahahaha! My favorites are my little Braun Multiprocessor - two different size food processor/blender jugs, stick for pulverising soups, whisk and even an ice-crushing attachment. Love it! Also my bamboo...
  21. Oh Poppi! I feel your pain I go from a normal tummy to massive D with coffee, especially if it has milk in it (I know, duh, lactose...) but the coffee had to go. My coffee guy is probably noticing the lack of funds! Tea is better for me, but not nearly as satisfying at the moment, but hopefully with time... right??? Chin up chicky - There are...
  22. Just thought I'd crop up and say hi! Aucklander here... mostly able to be gluten free even when we eat out these days. Recommendations for places to eat out where they have options or are particularly helpful: Squid Row - top of Symonds St - heaps of choices and when I selected one particular option the kitchen came back out to me and said they had...
  23. I know it's hard when you first start out and the grocery bills feel enormous. I am celiac and my daugher is not so it was a matter of working out what was important to me. I am fairly lazy so I really only want to cook a single meal each time. Miss 6 has ordinary bread for her school lunches and the odd packet of biscuits or crackers that are not gluten...
