  1. Cheese is another product that may have corn. Some companies dust their blocks of cheddar with corn starch.
  2. Gluten and corn so far (I think). I don't know about soy yet because I haven't touched any since June 5th. I seemed to have a D reaction the last couple of times I ate yams. I have been eating cheese without any apparent problems. Eggs too. All in all, I don't really know yet.
  3. I'm so sorry to hear this! I'm sure your Mom must be feeling terrible about it, especially seeing you had to go to the ER. I hope you're feeling a lot better really soon.
  4. Sturgis is about 60 or 65 miles from here, but the rally isn't just there. The entire Hills area is overrun with bikes from the second week of July until a week or so after the rally ends. Every town has bike events. Here in Hot Springs we have drag races and a poker run, plus all kinds of music events. It's fun, but bad for my business. For some reason these...
  5. I cook them on the George Foreman grill and then shred them and mix them with rice and finely chopped veggies. Then when I'm hungry I put it in a bowl and microwave it, put a little butter in it, and eat it. Hey, for this non-cooking gal, THAT is a complicated recipe!
  6. Her. Bart was my dog. When he would do something bad I'd call him "you poor Bartless thing", and when he would do something good, I'd call him such a beautiful Bartfull dog. I was going to use my name, but it was already taken so I just typed in the first thing that came to mind. But yes, all of you are welcome to come visit me in the Hills, whether you...
  7. I'll check into the paypal thing. Thanks. And yes, the Black Hills is the most beautiful place I have ever been, and I have traveled a LOT. I've been to almost every state in the union, and I moved here seven years ago. (from Connecticut) There is absolutely nothing good to eat here, even for people who are not gluten free because although we grow the...
  8. Thanks for all the kind words and hugs. I feel like such a baby. I have a friend right now who is dealing with his father dying. They have given him two weeks at the most. Now THAT is a problem worth crying about. But crying because I can't have a slice of bread? I should be ashamed of myself! I live in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota. There...
  9. When I first started the diet, I think it was seven weeks ago, I was doing pretty good. I congratulated myself on getting this in the modern age of computers, where there is so much information, and in a day and age when food companies are starting to become more aware. When my Mom got it, there WAS no internet, and even most health professionals had never...
  10. Creative? I guess so. But I have also found that it is expensive. I'm trying lots of new foods and discovering that I don't LIKE a lot of them. For example, today I had wild rice. I found out I don't like wild rice AT ALL. I thought it tasted a lot like dirt. Then I found a worm in it, and that was the end of that experiment. I know, it looks like worms anyway...
  11. Holy cow! Xanthan gum is from corn? Great, NOW what do I use for baking my gluten free, corn free, taste free bread?!
  12. Well, I finally found a way to eat ricecakes that I like. At first I tried them with melted cheese. They were like styrofoam. Then I tried them with homemade huckleberry jam. Better, but still hard to choke down. But today I did something different. I had some fresh blueberries and some fresh bing cherries. I mashed them up together with a little sugar...
  13. There is another fairly common condition called cervical ribs. They are a congential defect that about one in every hundred people have. I have these. There are small vestigal ribs growing out of my lower neck/upper back. The thing is, the are "floating ribs" and they move. If I move the wrong way, stretch in my sleep, or hold my arms out in front of me for...
  14. Hey, I never even thought of freezing it. Thanks. Looks like Stax are made using corn oil. That means I can't have them. The Kettle brand are made with sunflower or safflower oils only. Oh well...
  15. Thanks, SA! I'll check it out. If my grocery store carries them, they might be the first thing I try adding back after this elimination diet!
  16. I had a reaction with Lay's and then I went to their website and found this: U.S. Products Not Containing Gluten Ingredients The Frito-Lay products listed below do not contain wheat, rye, barley or oat ingredients (we include oats in this list as a precaution as oats are often commingled with gluten-containing grains). Please note however, some of...
  17. Thanks for the info. As hard as this diet is, it's even harder for someone who is learning to cook after a lifetime of living on junkfood!
  18. A lot of the recipes I see have milk in them. I NEVER liked milk so I hardly ever had any around. When I was eating gluten, most of the things I cooked that required milk did just fine with water. I'm thinking that probably isn't the case with gluten free. So, I just saw a pancake recipe that calls for a cup of milk. Here in my tiny town in the middle...
  19. Energi, I just read about using MILK OF MAGNESIA, of all things, as a deodorant. They say that even people who needed extra strong deodorant find that this works better. I'm thinking about trying it. I have been using Arm and Hammer toothpaste. I haven't seen any info on it one way or the other, but I just LOVE that stuff. I used to like their gum too...
  20. The brand I have is Sundown. I called and even though the lady I talked to was rather "snotty" with me, I GUESS they're OK. She was reading off of a card. She said all of their products are up to FDA standards for allergin labeling, and that the FDA also approves the way they clean the line between batches, for cross contamination. When I tried asking...
  21. I've been thinking - this happened one time last week. I had to leave the grocery store in a hurry and barely made it home in time. The only thing I had eaten that day that was the same as yesterday was the baked yam. This morning, not to be too graphic, everything I ate yesterday was whole and identifiable. That makes me tend to think either the yams...
  22. I used to be married to a man who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident. He had a prosthesis, but he always had trouble with his stump, and every step he took caused him pain. But he still waterskied, he still played softball, he still did just about everything he used to do. He said it wasn't a handicap, just an inconvenience. I am trying to look at Celiac...
  23. So I'm doing great with the diet. Plain meat, plain veggies, plain fruit, and some rice and eggs sometimes. Today I had a soft boiled egg, thick slice of cheddar, and a banana for breakfast. For lunch I had boneless skinless chicken breast, baked yam, fresh asparagus, and a handfull of blueberries. Then I took some gluten free acidopholus pills. Now I have...
  24. Make sure it is unwrapped.
  25. I just limit it to evenings. I'm not eating any processed foods at all right now, so any sugar I get is from fruit or veggies. Carrots and yams are loaded with sugar too. I'm really surprised that I am able to do this diet without too much trouble. I was the queen of junk food, hardly ever cooked (unless you call throwing a frozen pizza in the oven cooking...
