ARCHIVED A Victory Today, I Just Want To Share.
bartfull replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes! Share the recipe! Something pretty cool along a similar line happened to me today. There was a bake sale in town, and one lady had a gluten free table! It seems I'm NOT the only one in this small town with Celiac. I got some cookies with chocolate chips and pecans - yum! And because I know this lady lives in a totally gluten free home, I knew they... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Good!
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many moons ago when I was waitressing, one of the women I worked with used to come up behind her fellow waitresses and sing a line from some of the worst songs she could think of, just to get them stuck in our heads. Might I interest you in, "Like a rinestone cowboy", "See the tree how big it grows" (also known as "You died so I planted a stupid tree... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Good!
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I first started, I was SOOO tired. Waves of fatigue would wash over me and I needed to go lie down. Then a friend told me to avoid the sweet potatoes, carrots, and FRUIT I had been eating until late in the day. The fructose was making my sugar spike, then plummet. For the past week, I save all of the sugar filled fruits and veggies for supper and dessert... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Good!
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been singing that song to the cat for the past two days. I'm thinking maybe the reason I feel so good is that I am finally sleeping well. It has affected everything - my energy level and my mood. I know my mood is better too, because my hands and feet don't hurt anymore. Now I can take a walk. Now I can play my guitar without pain. And it... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Good!
bartfull posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't know which heading I should put this under, but here it is: After only 17 days of my new diet, I feel like I have shed 20 years. I am one of those with no specific symptoms. I didn't even know I was sick. It was the link between psoriasis anc Celiac which brought me here. But I guess I WAS sick. I thought I was just getting OLD! My psoriasis... -

ARCHIVED Things To Be Thankful For.....
bartfull replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am grateful for the wonderful family I had. For music. For God bringing me to the most beautiful place on the planet. And now that I can't eat what I used to eat, I am grateful that my father taught me long ago that every time you lose something, you free up time to learn something new. So I am grateful that for years I was able to eat what... -
ARCHIVED How Long Do Waves Of Fatigue Continue?
bartfull replied to hopefulinmybody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Waves of fatigue" is exactly how I described it to a friend the other day. She suggested I load up on protein early in the day, and don't eat anything sweet (including fruit and carrots) until after supper. I tried it and it works! It seems every time I would eat something sweet, my sugar would spike, then fall rapidly, leaving me so tired I needed to go... -
ARCHIVED Find Any Strange New Things You Love Food Wise?
bartfull replied to Newtoitall's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Canyon Bakehouse San Juan 7-Grain gluten free bread. I always liked all of those multi-grain breads with all of the little nutty things in them, but I couldn't eat them because they gave me terrible heartburn. Now I have found one I can eat, and to me it's better than any dessert. YUM! -
I've been almost two weeks gluten free now too, and although I haven't had a meltdown over food, I HAVE been generally grumpy. I'm not having any trouble adjusting to the diet, but I think the gluten withdrawal is messing with my mood. It seems that every time I drop something, instead of just picking it up, I growl about how "everything has to FIGHT me!...

I have noticed at least one big change. Before I went through menopause, I HATED sweets. Someone could give me a "fun size" candy bar and it would last weeks. I'd take a little nibble and go "Yuck!" and it would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Then a week later I'd try another nibble. After menopause I developed a raging sweet tooth. Cookies and ice cream...

This may not be related, but then again, maybe it is...I have only been gluten free for a couple of weeks now, and I have been having waves of fatigue wash over me, especially shortly after eating. A friend told me I should hold off on the fruit and carrots until later in the day because they make my sugar spike, followed by a steep fall. So for the past...

ARCHIVED Celiac disease linked to earlier menopause - Reuters
bartfull replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wow. I guess I have had Celiac a lot longer than I thought. I had a miscarriage at 35 and menopause at 45! The hot flashes were TERRIBLE. It seemed I would get one at least every half hour. And now, eleven years later, I STILL get one once in a while! Thanks for the link! -

Probably made in the same vat as the spicy. Cross contamination. -
ARCHIVED Is This A Reaction To Gluten?
bartfull replied to lynn472's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lynn, I'm new to this myself, so maybe I'm not the best person to answer, but I think you should take some time to really read up on celiac. Cruise around this forum and you will learn a lot. From what I understand, and from what I am now experiencing after six days of being gluten free, you won't see a lot of results right away because your body needs... -
ARCHIVED Could Some Corn Intolerant People Help Me?
bartfull replied to Newtoitall's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Jestgar, I too have psoriasis, and I'm on day six of my gluten free diet. By day three I saw a very noticable improvement in my psoriasis. Then I bought some gluten free cornbread mix. Today my P is worse again, so I'm thinking it might be the corn. But now what should I do? Most of the flour mixtures I have seen here and other places contain corn starch... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
bartfull replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had a HUGE lunch (chicken, sweet potato, broccoli, cheese and some grapes), so I will probably just have an egg with some gluten free cornbread for supper. I think I'm going to try frying the egg in butter. For the past five days I've been having my eggs soft boiled, but I think the fried one will be OK. And I have a nice ripe peach for dessert. -
As a former waitress I can tell you that even if you have a waitress who is concerned for your needs, very often the kitchen staff will disregard any instructions they are given. I once had a customer with celiac, and because my mom had it, I knew what she could and could not have. I told the cooks in no uncertain terms that they had to serve her steak (from...

My favorite part of the movie was when they found the old VW in the cave and it started right up. (I STILL love the old bugs!)

ARCHIVED At What Temperature Do You Function Best?
bartfull replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I like cool and dry. Even in the winter, I never have my thermostat set above 62. It is dry here, and although it does get hot (90's) sometimes in summer, nights cool off so much that windows open is all I need. -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Dream Career?
bartfull replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have been playing guitar for over 45 years, and it has been my main thing since I started. When I moved to the Black Hills seven years ago, I went for broke and opened a music store. I get to play with all of the new "toys" when they come in, I hold a weekly jam session with my friends and any tourists who happen by, and perhaps, no, DEFINITELY, the best... -
CassP, what you had was probably eczema, because PPP doesn't usually itch much. It hurts because you develope what look like white head pimples (only they're kind of greenish), and any pressure you put on them hurts like, well, pressure on a white head pimple would. Then in a day or two, the pustule will break and leave a dark red spot, followed by thickening...

You don't know the half of it! I own a music store and give guitar lessons for a living. It HURTS to play guitar. Not only that, but my favorite exercise is walking here in my beautiful Black Hills, and I haven't been able to do that either. So I'm getting fat, I am missing out on the beautiful scenery, and I have to keep smiling at my students, even though...

The reason I know it is not DH is that it is only on the palms of my hands and on my heels and bottom of my feet. It looks EXACTLY like the pictures of palmoplantar pustular psoriasis I see on the internet. It almost disappears in winter and comes back in summer. When I tried lotion on it, it got worse. Now I know why - that lotion contained gluten. Here...
