ARCHIVED Soy & Egg Removal - What To Expect?
bartfull replied to organicmama's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Aha! That could be the problem! When I first started I was eating a lot of fruit, and I had waves of fatigue come over me during the day, so strong that I just HAD to go lie down. Then a friend told me it was making my sugar spike, then plummet. She suggested I save the sweet stuff until later in the evening. I did, and it worked. The other thing about... -
ARCHIVED Soy & Egg Removal - What To Expect?
bartfull replied to organicmama's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't have GI symptoms either. When I first went gluten free, I was tired all the time. I found out that I can't have corn either, and once I did away with the corn, I felt great within a week. Insomnia gone, more energy, and my skin started clearing up. It must be hard to decipher whether you're tired because of gluten or soy, or if it's just because... -
I know this sounds crazy, but it works for restless leg syndrome. Put a bar of soap under the bottom sheet near his legs. I'm serious. They don't know WHY it works, but it truly DOES work. For leg cramps, try a teaspoon of mustard before bed, or if not mustard, try pickle juice. Another crazy home remedy that really works.

My primary symptom of celiac is palmoplantar pustular psoriasis. While doing some more research on this, I found that some doctors reccommend taking a biotin supplement. They say a person with Celiac is getting NO biotin at all from their food, and that biotin deficiency can cause skin problems and hair loss, yeast overgrowth, plus a lot of other nasty things...

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
bartfull replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used to love bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, so today I made one in a bowl. I cooked some rice, some bacon, and some soft boiled eggs. I mixed them all together with a little butter added and a chunk of cheese on the side. It was really good - I'm glad I made enough to have it again for lunch. -
Old thread, I know, but this is palmoplantar pustulat psoriasis. It is what I have, and it hurts! Gluten free started clearing it up, until I ate gluten free cornbread. I have found out (in a very painful and disappointing way) that I am also corn intolerant. But I will do whatever I have to do in order to be rid of this crippling rash.

I've had insomnia all my life - sort of. I am one of those people whose biological clock is set differently. I can fall asleep quickly during the day, but after dark I would lie awake for hours. For the past ten years or so, I also had trouble staying asleep. I'd sleep for two hours, then wake up and couldn't get back to sleep. So I'd get up and read for...

ARCHIVED Soggy Pizza Crust
bartfull replied to coffeetime's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Get a pizza stone! Our ovens at home don't go to 600 degrees like the pizza ovens in restaurants do, but a pizza stone will help tremendously. Here is a link that explains how they work: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Sometimes Just Isn't Good Enough....
bartfull replied to strezzedout1979's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm trying to figure out what besides gluten is bothering me. It seems corn is a big problem for me, but searching for answers on the internet, I found that some people have problems with sugar, some with iodized salt (because there is corn in it), and there are even some people who have problems with rice. Can you grow a garden? Do you know anyone who... -
ARCHIVED What If My Chicken Eats Wheat?
bartfull replied to missingtortillas's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Poppi. I just bought a couple dozen from a small farm. They are free range, and they eat well. AND, they taste SO much better than the store bought eggs. -
ARCHIVED What If My Chicken Eats Wheat?

How about eggs? I am finding that corn is a major problem for me, and of course chicken feed is corn. Please don't ell me I have to give up eggs! I started getting better, then ate corn and got sick again. That seemed to trigger something, because now I can't even eat Udi's because of the corn starch in it. If I'm super sensitive to corn, do you think I should... -
This is going to sound crazy but please try it! Put a bar of soap under the bottom sheet near your legs. Your restless legs will rest! I heard about this on a show called "The People's Pharmacy" on National Public Radio. As a matter of fact, they have mentioned this topic several times and all of the folks who call in to the show, and even the hosts of the...

ARCHIVED Haha Guess I Won't Be Eating There.....
bartfull replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
When my Mom was in the hospital dying of leukemia, I told them she was on a strict gluten free diet. When they brought her first meal, there was a slice of bread on the plate! I went ballistic. I insisted that I talk to the head cook. When I explained about Celiac, he apologized, and then asked what was wrong with the bread!! He didn't know that flour... -
Thanks folks. What is really strange is, today, my psoriasis is noticably better - and I ate a bunch of Udi's yesterday. (At six bucks a loaf, I'm not going to throw it away.) So, anyway, Udi's, eggs, and extrasharp white cheddar. I had an apple too. That was all I ate yesterday. And after I closed the shop, I went to the grocery store. I had to leave...

Thanks for the replies. I have one more day's worth of breads, and then I'll go bread free for awhile. (Shall I start making my sandiches between slices of meat? ) I'm wondering if maybe corn is the ONLY problem I have. I guess the way to find out is to stick to a completely non-grain diet for a while, then after a couple of months (?) make myself...

I've been gluten free for four weeks now. After the first three days my psoriasis (my only strong symptom) started clearing up. Then I made some gluten free cornbread and it flared up again. So I stopped eating the cornbread and went back to using either Udi's or Canyon Bakehouse 7 Grain. The psoriasis completely cleared up on both hands. Then a few...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
bartfull replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Some of my guitar students are playing at an open mic tonight, right after I close the shop. That means I'll be eating the other half of that can of Dinty Moore. No time to go home and cook. Oh well, the music will be good. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I had some Dinty Moore that a friend brought me. It was nice of him, I guess, but I was never crazy about beef stew. I ate it anyway. -

Asperin comes from the bark and leaves of the white willow. Maybe you could find some of that and make an infusion? -
ARCHIVED I Am A Widow At Age 42
bartfull replied to okieinalaska's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am so sorry you have to go through this. But I do know what you mean about friends. When my parents got sick, friends were coming out of the woodwork to help them and the rest of the family. And frankly, when one suffers such a loss, that is the only real comfort there is. Please know that you will be in my prayers, and tell your friends for us here on... -
ARCHIVED I Didn't Even Know I Was Sick
bartfull posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for a little over three weeks now. I guess I was what you might call asymptomatic. At least I didn't THINK what I had were symptoms. I thought the fatigue, foggy headedness, and aches and pains were just part of getting older. I am almost 57, and I was thinking that if I feel this bad now, what will it be like at 70? I actually... -
ARCHIVED Too Early To Give Up?
bartfull replied to mattwilliams85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And save the fruit and sugary veggies (sweet potatoes, yams, carrots) for late in the day. I know I have mentioned this on several threads, but I was having lots of trouble with fatigue at first. When my friend told me the sweets were making my sugar spike then plummet, I decided to eat fruit after supper only. Now I feel GREAT! -
Someone should ask her why she puts her faith in that one book, and totally discounts all of the other medical literature out there. Perhaps she is getting paid/per/mention?

ARCHIVED Rice Rice & More Rice
bartfull replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One of my favorite ways to do rice is so simple, but delicious. I fry up a bunch of bacon, saute some sliced mushrooms in butter, then crumble the bacon into the rice, mix in the mushrooms, and if I'm feeling really decadent, add more butter. I have always served this as a side dish when cooking Mexican food and everybody always loves it. I have always... -
ARCHIVED What Were The Hardest Things To Find And Elminate?

Domesticactivist, how do you shampoo with baking soda? Do you mix it with water first or what? I'm thinking I'd like to try that. Thanks.
