  1. Oh YES! We just got back from the dentist today with my 9 year old who had to have a tooth pulled. The tooth was dead and they had to pull it before it got absessed. Now we have to take him back in to get fitted for a spacer. All three of my kids have mouths full of filling and crowns. My just-turned-five year old has 4 crowns and her four front top...
  2. Susan555, What are the ingredients in the Breyers that you bought? They might be safe. Post the ingredients here and we'll check. Or you could call the manufacturer and check with them. Don't throw it away without checking. There might be some ingredients that are questionable, but do not necessarily contain gluten. Anyhow, I am looking for dairy...
  3. I'd say it is telling you to be careful! Keep reading those labels and eating right. God bless, Mariann
  4. You could always try getting another doctor to go over the test results. A second opinion might make a difference. If the other doctor says it is positive, a second biopsy might not be necessary. I would check around for a doctor more experienced with celiac disease and heve them reevaluate her tests results. God bless, Mariann
  5. Hi Mel, I think no one responded, because none of us have heard of those tests before. They are not related to celiac disease at all, but maybe your doctor is checking for other things at the same time. Her antibodies to gluten are both positive, so they want you to put her on the diet. The only reason you shouldn't would be if you want them to do the...
  6. Hi Robin, We were all tested through Enterolab. The gene testing is done through Laboratories at Bonfils and they do not just test for HLA-DQ2 & DQ8, they also check for other genes that cause gluten intolerance. Celiac Disease is the worst form of gluten intolerance. Dr. Fine's tests pick up other levels of gluten intolerance, too. My son...
  7. Hi Mom 2 2, If ANY of the villi are damaged and her blood test results were positive then she does have Celiac. The damage is often spotty and you are very lucky they did biopsy a damaged spot. Your doctor is being conservative when he says she might not have it. Just put ther on the diet and they will most likely see a full recovery in her villi during...
  8. I was wondering in anyone has tried this brand. We have not had luck with Rice Dream, Tofutti or Soy Dream. I can't find any Mocha Mix frozen dessert. But in my searching I came acrossed this. I am waiting for an e-mail response to whether they sell it on the west coast. Anyone on the east coast tried this brand? Open Original Shared Link Let...
  9. Tiffany is right. Silk says right on the label that it is free of gluten. Also some other alternatives that are gluten-free are certain brands of rice milk (I don't drink them so I am not sure what brands are gluten-free other than Pacific), and Blue Diamond Almond Breeze almond milk. Also not ALL brands of brown rice syrup are made with barley. You...
  10. It could be the eggs. A slightly delayed reaction is not uncommon. Try eliminating the eggs completely again. It might help. Keeping a food diary is a good idea. God bless, Mariann
  11. MSG does not contain gluten. But it does cause a reaction in people who are sensitive to MSG. I try to avoid it as much as possible, since it always makes me feel weird. But it doesn't give me a gluten reaction. God bless, Mariann
  12. I eat the Dorito's Salsa Verde flavored chips and I have not had a reaction to them. Some of the seasoned chips have wheat or milk in the flavorings, but they will list them on the ingredients/allergen part of the label. It will say something like Contains Wheat or Contains Milk. I have A-1 steak sauce as being gluten free on my lists. If it is not...
  13. laryssabeth, could the doctor have said "Ferritin" and not keratine. When checking for Celiac some doctors start with checking for anemia, since some Celiacs are anemic. This would not be able to tell if you have Celiac or not, since not ALL celiacs are anemic. I was checking around to see if I could find out what keratine blood test your doctor was...
  14. Open Original Shared Link There is a really good (but long) article about the benefits of glutamine at the link above. Glutamine is an amino acid. The article explains all of the things it does in our bodies and the health benefits. God bless, Mariann
  15. Beverly, I am so sorry that you are suffering so much and not able to get a definative answer to your problems. With both gliadin antibodies positive they should have given you a biopsy. They may still want to do that. You could request one, if you want it. It can be frustrating to have to wait so long for a follow-up appointment. It is as if some...
  16. Hi Maryanne, We use Kinnikinnick bread. It is lighter than most gluten-free breads and doesn't crumble, but it is a bit chewier than regular gluten breads. My kids like it toasted, and I imagine it would be fine for grilled cheese (haven't tried it since we are all off dairy right now). You can sometimes find it in US healthfood stores, or you can...
  17. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-21104477116.e7 click on this link and it will take you to the page with the lists you need. I agree that you should print them out. After a while you will know which ingredients you need to look out for. Anything that is questionable you should call the manufacturer. It does get easier. God bless, Mariann
  18. I had never heard of Logan's roadhouse before. I looked up their menu online and it looks like a lot of battered, fried foods and grilled steaks and BBQ. Open Original Shared Link I would probably try and contact the manager during off hours (not meal times or weekends) and sit down and go over the menu. Then you could pick out what you might be able...
  19. Most doctor agree that you would need to be eating gluten the equivalent of three pieces of bread every day for at least 6 weeks. If you have been mostly gluten free for 5 years, it may take more for longer to cause enough damage in your intestines to cause the antibodies to leak into your blood stream. Enterolab might be a better route for you, since...
  20. If you get all the gluten out of your diet (and off your skin!) and still have some stomach issues, that is when you would need to try cutting out dairy for at least two weeks. If it makes a difference then it would be up to you if you cut dairy for more long term or just for a short amount of time. Most people are not truely "allergic" to milk, and the...
  21. Hi Sizuku, It could be celiac disease, or something else. My first thought when you mentioned the foods that were aggrevating you was that you may have a yeast overgrowth in your intestines. This would be aggrevated by sugar, breads, and beans, as well as other things. The supplements/medicines you mentioned might also cause problems. The gas would...
  22. Hi Smith, If you do have a reaction, it would be from the cross contamination. They produce the gluten-free chips on the same lines with the non-gluten-free ones. Some people are very sensitive to it, but others do fine. We personally do eat some the Lay's gluten-free (and dairy free) products, but others here don't. I'm glad you are enjoying your Cheetos...
  23. One thing they need to do when they take the biopsies (and most doctors don't do this) is to look at the tissue samples on the cellular level. I think it is called a celiac disease-3 stain. They can then count the number of lymphocytes (anything over 20 is conscidered celiac disease). This would only need to be done in the absence of visible damage to...
  24. Those are great suggestions and I would like to add a few. If she is not already dairy-free conscider it for at least a few weeks to give her intestines time to heal. Once you reintroduce dairy, use the lactose free products for a while and this will give her system more of a break. If she is having trouble digesting you may want to give her a...
  25. Laura did you make sure to wash your hands afterwards? It may be that it absorbs in quickly and you might not have gotten it all off afterwards. And yes it could be enough to cause "potty problems". I use a sponge. I wet the tip of one end and then run it along the envelope. I also buy the self-adhesive stamps, so I don't have to worry about accidently...
