  1. I used to get random blurry vision, especially at night. I couldn't watch TV, read, or even see the computer screen. This totally went away when I went gluten-free. I got gluttened last night, and one of my first symptoms was blurry vision!! Now I know!
  2. I have a lot of neuro symptoms as well that have not resolved, but I am only 2 weeks on the diet. I have heard that it can take many months to improve, so I am right there with ya! Have you noticed any improvement, even a tiny bit? I think I have less tingling in my feet, and my balance seems a little better. So I think I am headed in the right...
  3. So I have been gluten free for 2 weeks, and in those 2 weeks I have been very careful with what I eat. I have not eaten out once, for fear of cc. I have had an AWESOME response to the diet!! No gas, cramps, bloating...it's like I had a stomach transplant!!! So, today I got brave and went to Whole Foods and decided to try something different from...
  4. I have to agree with this, Irish. I am not sure what Josh's motives are, but he seems to be focused on numbers and research and not real people's experiences. I have said this before, but I will say it again.....when you are dealing with immunology (which is what serologic testing for Celiac is) there is a HUGE margin for the unexpected!! Many auto...
  5. This is an interesting thread! I have had IBS my entire life, but my trigger was a bowel resection in 2007 for rectal endometriosis. This was immediately followed by a full blown yeast infection from my mouth to my other end (sorry, tmi)! I developed obstructions from scar tissue and had 3 surgeries after that to fix it, and it was downhill from there.
  6. My doc used LabCorp, and I got a "you are positive for HLA DQ2 and negative for HLA DQ8". That's it. Plus, I had to ask her for the gene tests...she wasn't even going to order them and my GI doc didn't even care what they said. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the fact is, Josh, that most people really don't care what their genes are, they just want...
  7. Yes, this is a good idea, since I have had questionable "normal" results in the past... Thank you, Raven!
  8. Yes, my DGP was really positive!! I also have an elevated CRP (inflamation indicator, non-specific). In 2007 after a bowel resection, I developed an obstruction due to excessive scarring and inflamation, lost 20 lbs and was pooping 20 X's a day!! They did a Celiac screen on me at that time, and it was supposedly normal. But I recently got copies of that...
  9. I got a letter in the mail today (thanks for the personal phone call...not). My biopsy results from last weeks scope were negative. I was anticipating this, as my ttg levels were normal, which pointed to no intestinal damage (yet). My GI has released me from his care, told me to follow up with my primary doc for any "further problems". So do I have...
  10. Thank you all so much for the advice! I am not taking ANY multi vitamins right now....duh...so dumb! I am headed to GNC today to stock up! I am also going to make a Betty Crocker gluten-free devils food cake, and yes, I might just eat the entire thing! One last question....do you think I should see a neurologist and get her take on all of this...
  11. Ugghh...sorry to hear this, loX4! I guess I was hoping for something dramatic, so far the only thing that is better for me is the gas and bloating. All the other crap is still there. I think I can....I think I can....
  12. I just asked a similar question about this topic earlier....sorry to hear that your neuropathy never got better. Ugghh....
  13. It sounds like you were gluttened. The DGP will become elevated before the tTg (from what I understand). The good news is your ttg is down, so it could have been an isolated gluttening or sporadic cross contaminations keeping the DGP numbers high (but not high enough to elevate your ttg). Have you been super strict? Any chance of CC? Have you eaten...
  14. So I had my biopsy on Friday, still waiting for the results. Regardless, I am gluten free for life because of my blood tests. So I guess I am over here on the "other side" now. Today is day 4, and I feel like crap, which I attribute to gluten withdrawal. I just want to eat an entire chocolate cake right now. Some of my neuro symptoms that I suspect...
  15. First, I want to tell you how sorry I am for your losses. I also had a miscarriage last year which, looking back, I believe could have been caused by undiagnosed Celiac. I also have had endometriosis for almost 20 years (I am 38 now). Since then, I have gone into Premature Ovarian Failure (again, could be from Celiac, as early menopause is a related...
  16. I would say the longer you can remain on gluten, the better the chances that you will get a positive test. Since you are not terribly sick, I would wait, especially since the blood work will determine if you get the biopsy or not.
  17. I started to notice that after eating one of my favorite meals, tomato soup and mozzarella cheese stuffed bread sticks, that I got HORRIBLY bloated and gassy (more so than "normal" bloated and gassy). I didn't really connect the dots until my positive blood test, but looking back, that was a big sign that I couldn't eat gluten.
  18. I am in it right now, too. Day 4 here. Feel like crap. Very, very irritable and icky-feeling. Headache and itchy skin. You would think I had been glutened! Depressed, too....feeling like I am never going to be able to eat normal again.... I went gluten free for 2 weeks about a month ago after my blood test came back positive and I felt exactly...
  19. Wow, that is a huge weight loss! So glad you were able to get the labs drawn and a plan put together to get to the bottom of this. I agree....stop the gluten now and worry about a challenge later (if needed). Keep us posted on the results! Good luck!
  20. Yep, I already forgot what I was going to post.... ! But seriously, memory problems/brain fog are big symptoms for a lot of us. It took about 3 days for my labs to come back, but I think that would vary a bit depending on where you live and what lab you use. Some people have to wait a couple weeks....
  21. I am so sorry you have been sick for so long. I feel the same way about most docs these days. It's very dissapointing when you are sick to be dismissed or given a garbage can diagnosis. Have you only been gluten free for 11 days? You must be eating gluten before the test, but if it's only been 11 days, you might be able to start eating it again...
  22. Just wanted to say I am so sorry you have been suffering. You have been given great advise (the folks on this forum are awesome)! Hope you get some answers quickly!! Good for you for being proactive and getting an appointment ASAP! You need those blood tests so you can stop the gluten entirely. With your symptoms, I wouldn't wait for a biopsy to...
  23. Hi! Congrats on your new baby! Yes, your symptoms certainly sound like they could be Celiac. Sometimes people with Celiac don't actually get "triggered" into full-blown disease until they have a stressful event to their body (i.e pregnancy, surgery, illness). Mine was a bowel resection in 2007 (I had endometriosis growing into my rectum....yuck). Within...
  24. Holy crap, YES!! I am so shocked by how many people with Celiac have this same mysterious left sided upper stomach pain! That is actually how I got diagnosed with Celiac! I saw several docs about my upper left quadrant pain under my ribs that radiated to my back. One doc said it was IBS, another said it was fibromyalgia. Finally, I saw my GP to get...
  25. You mentioned "prior test results showing malabsorbtion"..have you had the actual blood tests for Celiac? That could be very helpful information in your situation! You need to continue eating gluten for them to be accurate, though, so if you haven't had them done yet, don't stop eating gluten just yet!
