  1. Guys, There is a four page articel on celiac disease in the most recent (August) edition of Fitness magazine. We are even on the cover! WOOOHOOO, we are cool again!
  2. I don't have kids but I am super picky myself and have NO time to make anything, one of our favorites is quesadillas, super easy, just heat two corn tortillas in a skillet with a pat of butter on each side(my dietician taught me that, works GREAT, makes them taste like flour ones!) and throw in whatever between them, leftover cooked chicken and cheese, just...
  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
  4. Keep in mind that hair falling out is a common sign of an Iron deficiency, or anemia. It is also common of thyroid problems. Make sure you know about your levels for both of these, it could be totally unrealted to being gluten free and instead a symptom of a related disease. I had a lot of hair loss in my teens that turned out to be a serious iron deficiency...
  5. My GI doc says weight gain is actually as much of a symptom of Celiac as weight loss, either represents a malabsorbtion, which is what Celiac is. He said so many people are misdiagnosed because they have not lost, but instead gained weight. It is proven that celiac disease can seriously screw up your thyroid, and that can mean it makes it EITHER hyperactive...
  6. Thanks Kaiti, you are right. At least I can rest easy knowing I have informed them of the risks. It is tough knowing what could happen, but it is in thier hands now.
  7. As a preschool teacher of many years, I will tell you that it IS best for children who cannot describe thier symptoms to wear a braclet. It should read Celiac disease, and you should also make sure it says "severe reactions to wheat, oats, barley, rye, and whatever else your child cant handle" This is because in most instances people who do not know your...
  8. I was wondering, do you guys have any good ideas as to how to get relatives with similar symptoms to be tested? I know I cant make anyone do anything, but I worry that when it is diagnosed it will be too late, such as cancer. My cousin and aunt have always had identical sympotoms and when I told them I was positive, they were sympathetic but dont quite seem...
  9. I'll tell ya how women do it again, even with small children. It's a phenomenon called" pregnancy amnesia", once they deliver they forget all the bad stuff and want to do it all over again! Congratulations, and pace yourself!~
  10. Guys, I am in nursing school and I thought I would tell you the "norms" for BP.(blood pressure) 120/80 is considered normal, anything below is considered "hypotensive" which means, low blood pressure. Doctors dont usually freak until its below 80/50 or so, and a lot of people run high or low due to many things, including thyroid function. You should always...
  11. Hey guys, this is a little embarrasing, but I need help. I need to know if Yasmin birth control is gluten free or not. It's relativley new, and I can't find it on any lists.( I've checked glutenfreedrugs.com and several others) I've taken it for at least two years, but my diagnosis was in April and I'm still checking on all my logistics. If anyone knows...
  12. My mom is allergic to eggs and peanuts and often uses that line with obnoxious waiters. She loves to say, "You have a phone handy, right? Because if you mess this up you will get to practice calling 911." They usually get serious after that! I've never tried it, but I will if I have to! It's my day that will be ruined, not thiers!
  13. I think we all wish we had something of more help to say to you, but we all feel your frustration and have you in our thoughts. I wonder if your thyroid is functioning normally, that can really affect prenancies. Also, keep stress levels in mind, and not just emotional, physical too. I wish you all the best and hope you know we are all pulling for you!
  14. Julie, I went through what you went through with not being able to see doctors quickly and having some tell me the blood test doenst mean you have celiac disease. I cancelled my scope at the last minute and decided my symptoms were serious enough that I was goint to take action. Nearly two weeks gluten free, life is beautiful. At my follow up, the GI guy...
  15. I agree. I had a scheduled endoscopy and I cancelled it the day before when I found out what it was going to cost me, even after insurance. Since we werent trying to determine the line of treatment because it is the same regardless of the results, I talked to my doc and went straight to the diet. What a relief! I am only a week and a half in and I'm like...
  16. Props to you, its refreshing to see a dad searching for answers too!
  17. I just want to thank all of the women who posted about adoption. My brothers are adopted (my mom had eclampsia with me and couldnt carry another child after that) and I am so proud to call them part of my family. Often I hear people say they could never love an adopted child as thier own, but they obviously have not tried. Sorry to get mushy, but I am in...
  18. To go along with the gluten-free sausage question, what is the deal with seasonings and condiments? I am new and waiting for my nutritionist appt., so I am kinda winging it here. I've read so many different things about seasonings, what are the most common trade names for gluten I should be looking for other than the obvious?
  19. I'm a newbie, but some advice...be proactive. Ask for what you want, which is the tests, and don't back down if he brushes you off with a "you can't possibly have that response" I got that answer even after I brought up celiac disease only to finally demand the tests and get positives! Don't give up on it, even if you don't have it, knowing will be peace...
  20. Hey guys- how do I make my signature? On my posts, ya know, where it says how long I've been gluten-free? Sorry-I'm a little computer retarded. Thx- EG
  21. I'm new to celiac so I don't have any awesome suggestions, Kaiti is really helpful so hopefully she will be on later to answer your questions. I just wanted you to know that I care about you and you are supported. Sorta like a email hug. Good luck.

    ARCHIVED Starbucks

By the way, you can still order the java chip drink, just omit the java chips. It's like a really yummy milkshake!
  23. I'm glad your instructor gave you a reprieve. I can totally sympathize, I am in nursing school (hard core) and I just recently tested positive. Worse yet, I am having my endoscopy on Wednesday, so I am still uncomfortable as I must continue to eat as normal for accurate biopsy results. It sucks. I took my final for this semester today, I didnt want to delay...
  24. Anyone who can help, I posted a note in Pre and testing. I really need some advice.
  25. That happens to me too sometimes. While I am writing, I need advice. After years of GI problems I recently underwent extensive testing and one of my three celiac antiobdies tested positive. Based on all the research I can very easily agree that I have it. My GI dr wants to do the endoscopy, but because of school it would have to wait two weeks plus. They...
