ARCHIVED Neverending Breadcrumbs..
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My house is absolutely non-compliant but I have found something that is really easy and prevents those nasty little gluten crumbs from getting on my food Each time I prepare food, I pull out a thick kitchen towel and lay it down on the counter. *Nothing* I eat goes off the towel - and I have a safe place to rest spoons & such. After I'm done with... -

Emme999 replied to max's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum Max Here is a little info about the Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) Antibody Testing (from the book "Dangerous Grains"): In the field of blood testing for celiac disease, the tissue transglutaminase (tTG) test is currently the newest entity. It is another step toward solving the puzzle of celiac disease. Transglutaminase is... -

Good points Misa!! I love that you point out that your body was so run down that you couldn't manage to produce symptoms to the allergenic foods. I've been thinking about that lately. When I last saw my gastroenterologist he gave me a pneumonia vaccine because he was concerned that my immune system was too weak. And since allergies are an immune response... -
ARCHIVED Need A Chinese Dish
Emme999 replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is there a PF Changs near you? They have a gluten-free menu that is pretty comprehensive I went there last week with my boyfriend and had moo goo gai pan - it was tasty, but I don't know if they had to make special changes to it for it to be gluten free. Hmm... There is a place near us called "Rumbi's Island Grill" where they do rice/noodles bowls... -

This is from Open Original Shared Link free.com/actf-update.htm 7/20/04 The U.S. House of Representatives, under the leadership of Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY), passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (S. 741). This landmark legislation will require the top 8 food allergens [milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat... -

ARCHIVED Food Allergies & Intestinal Healing
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It depends on the kind of allergy that you have. If it is an IgE reaction (immediate) - no, it will not go away. If it is an IgG reaction (delayed) you might be able to reintroduce the food into your diet after avoidance of it for a few months. But, when you do reintroduce it - you will need to do it on a rotational basis (like, once every four days) to... -
ARCHIVED Food Allergies & Intestinal Healing
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Lisa My dairy allergies are severe, definitely the strongest of all my allergies - in fact, they have a little bar graph displaying the severity of the allergy and all of the dairy bars go to the end of the chart! These are the specific allergens tested for in my dairy section: Casein, Cheddar Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Mozzarella Cheese, Whey... -

Here is another dairy/soy/egg/gluten-free bar that I came across: VITALITY NUTRITION'S BUDDHA BARS Kirkman is now a distributor for a Doctor-formulated nutrition snack bar called the Vitality Bar (also known as the Buddha Bar). This bar is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals as well as anti-oxidants and metabolic cofactors. It is formulated...

ARCHIVED Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, Red Meat, Sesame
Emme999 replied to Nereid's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey! I am so with you! I had the ELISA allergy testing in March and discovered allergies to eggs, dairy and sesame. Unfortunately, I had the vegetarian allergy panel done because I didn't think that people could really be allergic to meat (duh!) Now I am seriously wondering if I may have a beef allergy also. My doctor suggested it when I first received... -
You can have it if the whey protein says "lactose-free" on the container! Some companies even add lactase (the digestive enzyme for lactose) to their products - even if they don't have lactose in them - probably for marketing but perhaps because a lot of people mix their whey protein with milk. Anyway - if you merely have a lactose intolerance...

Thanks for that link! I've been looking at the ANDI bars (haven't ordered them yet). Has anyone tried these? They are from the Autism Network for Dietary Intervention. Here is the site: Open Original Shared Link They have 15 grams of protein each! And are dairy/gluten/egg/sesame free! (Well, *most* of them are egg & sesame free ) ...

Stephanie, Nice commentary I am very impressed that you were able to figure out all of your allergy stuff! I can't even imagine figuring out something so specific as aspergillus! Man!! Did you keep the mother of all food journals or what?? You are my hero Everybody - I found some additional comments from the "Dangerous Grains" book... -
I have problems with B vitamins. I don't know what it is.. but after taking them I become prone to anxiety attacks & really agitated. I used to run a health food store and my best friend (who managed another one of the stores in the same chain) also couldn't take B vitamins. We actually came across a number of people who have trouble with B vitamins...

ARCHIVED Food Allergies & Intestinal Healing
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
AnnieMarie, Congrats on your healing so far! I know that if you should find that you have additional food intolerances, your healing will come even faster This is one of the things that keeps me on the "straight & narrow" My food allergies aren't violent, by any means. The worst problems I have after ingesting foods I'm allergic to are stomach... -
ARCHIVED Food Allergies & Intestinal Healing
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nikki - I think your husband is a lucky man to have someone so caring about his celiac disease and food allergies that they look for more info for them online I imagine it must have been rough for *both* of you while he was seeking answers to his problems. I went to one doctor in particular who really hurt me. It was actually an allergy doctor... -
ARCHIVED Food Allergies & Intestinal Healing
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hate to burst your condescension bubble, but my food allergies were documented by a blood test. I'm not "looking" for any more difficulties in life, nor do I think anyone else here is. We have enough irritation already. BTW - this is probably not a good place to say that people's reactions are "psychological" - a *lot* of people here (including... -
ARCHIVED Suspecting Celiac Disease--not Sure
Emme999 replied to cgd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Before you rule out the blood tests - find out the cost. At my University Student Health Services, the blood test (ttG IgA) only cost about $46. You ought to call various clinics in your area and find out if you could afford one before assuming it will be too expensive. I had the blood tests and the endoscopy for my diagnosis. I remember hearing... -
ARCHIVED Hi, New With Symptom Q
Emme999 replied to Misa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Misa Reactions can *absolutely* surface in as little as 1/2 an hour!! I react within 10 minutes of having ingested gluten. Usually, my first reaction is emotional. I know as soon as I start crying that something is up! If I've gotten a lot of gluten, I have a pretty severe GI reaction within 30 minutes. Welcome to the forum One more... -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Enzyme Renders Gluten Harmless
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Okay everybody. I think we all need to stop being condescending and/or defensive and/or insensitive. Sheesh! The goal here is to determine how effective this is for *one* individual who is willing to try it and see if his life goes more smoothly, in case of *accidental* ingestion of gluten. I think that celiachap is great for being willing to put...
