  1. Umm... why are you guys concerned about your haircoloring products? If they don't get in your mouth you should be fine! Unless you are rinsing them out in the shower and the coloring runs into your mouth -- I don't think you need to worry about it - Michelle
  2. Vincent - Have you been tested for other food allergies (via blood test)? A friend of mine told me about her little sister who they thought had celiac but later determined that damage was being done by a severe soy allergy. (Of course, I don't know how true this is - because I've never talked to the sister *or* her doctor - but it's something...
  3. I think that my dad must be gluten intolerant. He hasn't tested positive for Celiac but his mother is (self-diagnosed) "allergic" to the gluten grains and he has all sorts of issues frequently associated with celiac disease. Plus, he's my dad & I have it! Damn it, I must have gotten it from somewhere! Sheesh Anyway - I don't think it...
  4. Thanks Tiffany! I know there are lots of yummy things out there still I think I've consumed more Swedish Fish than many people do in their entire lifetime I have so many food allergies along with the Celiac and intestinal Candida that I finally went to a doctor who specializes in intestinal issues (though he's a general practitioner). I first...

    ARCHIVED Casein?

Yup, casein is a type of milk protein. Lactose is actually a form of sugar found in milk - lactase is the enzyme that breaks down the lactose. A lot of people have a lactase deficiency, causing them to be lactose intolerant. If the problem is merely lactose intolerance, you can purchase the enzyme lactase in health food stores & it's supposed to help...
  6. Hey, this might help someone: I found out in March ('05) that I'm allergic to all dairy products (whey & casein included) and my allergies showed up so high on the test that my doctor suggested that I might be allergic to beef. I hadn't been tested for meats because I didn't think you could be allergic to them (duh). Anyway - I gave it up for a...
  7. Hey Everybody I haven't posted in a while, but here is something that I put up a long time ago regarding Candida & Celiac: "Now we come to what to me is the most interesting of the recent research regarding celiac. It seems fitting that the research again comes from Holland , where celiac disease was first linked to diet. Dr. Nieuwenhuizen...

    ARCHIVED Michelle In Utah?

Hey Barb, Is Dr. Pederson the gastroenterologist at St. Marks? I've met him before (he spoke at one of the GIG meetings) and he seems like a really cool guy. I never met with a dietician but went to a few presentations on Celiac by dieticians who totally sucked. You'll find much better info. here I am doing *really* well with my Celiac...

    ARCHIVED Michelle In Utah?

Hello (Michelle has changed her major to Health Promotion & Education & is SLAMMED writing a research proposal paper! And then there's the rest of my stuff... ugh ) ANYWAY! The doctor/nurse practitioner who helped me the most at the Student Health Services is Suzanne Martin. She is AWESOME and helped me to figure out all of my...
  10. Does anyone know if this is gluten-free? I have used it a few times, and each time I've become very sick (think: bathroom!). I can't find any information on the ingredients *anywhere*! If anyone could help me, I'd be very grateful! Thanks! - Michelle
  11. Hello. Is anyone familiar with Sarcoidosis? I've read the NIH document and the one here at Celiac.com, but I'm wondering if anyone has personal stories that might mean more to me. My dad has been in the hospital for the past few days - at first they thought it was acute pneumonia (they had to life-flight him to the Idaho hospital from Yellowstone...

    ARCHIVED Protien Bars

Oh! Thanks for the suggestion but I'm allergic to eggs too Eating has become quite an obstacle course for me! (Allergies: Dairy, eggs, sesame, beef - and then there's gluten! Sheesh!) But thanks for your kind offering! - Michelle
  13. Hey, I just wanted to note that Tropicana (a Pepsi product) is *not* considered gluten-free (according to an email from the company) if it contains "natural flavors" or (of course) "modified food starch". (See a previous post on Tropicana: "Tropicana - Those Bastards!") - Michelle
  14. (Sorry it's taking me so long to reply lately! Just started a new semester!) Carrie - I'm *so* sorry that you are having a rough time with your glutened environment! I know exactly what you mean. I told my mom the other day that I feel like I should be wearing a hazmat suit every time I walk into the kitchen! I am constantly amazed that it's possible...
  15. Noooo... the "only" was sarcastic. I was hoping that I wouldn't be glutened at all! (Hence the big box of food we took!) Thanks for the welcome back I really *hate* the fact that I've been glutened multiple times. I think being glutened at all is terrible, but I fear that since it happened more than once - the damage might be more severe....
  16. Thanks celiac3270!! - Michelle

    ARCHIVED Protien Bars

Hey, just wanted to comment on the ANDI bars ( Open Original Shared Link ). They are good!!! My favorite was the chocolate shake bar - it tasted like a brownie with nuts in it! Ooh it was yummy. Wish I wasn't out of them! Anyway - these bars are gluten & dairy free. I'm almost positive that they are also corn & soy free, but you will need...
  18. I have *no* idea what happened with the steak & veggie dinner. We grilled the steaks (using gluten-free marinade: McCormick spices, San-J wheat-free soy sauce, and olive oil), then ate frozen vegetables & fresh yams. My boyfriends brother & his family had stayed at his house for a while when we were away, but my boyfriend swears that they didn...
  19. Hello everybody!! What's up? I missed the wisdom of this board (and you guys!) so much!! And so here I am, back to beg for more of your infinite knowledge The first time I was glutened was at the Cheesecake Factory in San Francisco. I talked to the manager for about 15 minutes. He supposedly checked all of the ingredients in the corn...
  20. Thanks Steph! I wish I could meet you too! Okay, talked to boyfriend - looks like there will be no microwave in the room. That sucks because I love Amy's stuff! *AND* we will be going to San Francisco on the way instead of Tahoe. Any suggestions there? Thanks!! - Michelle
  21. Hello My cute boyfriend is taking me to Yosemite next week and we will be staying in Mariposa, Mammoth - and Tahoe on the way. Does anyone have any experience with these places that they could share? I'd love any info you could offer! We'll have a cooler with us - but I'm not sure if the rooms will have kitchens or not. Probably not...
  22. One more thing.. You could do something really great for him after he receives his diagnosis and take him to a restaurant with gluten-free menus to celebrate his future health Make it a happy event for him There are a lot of great restaurants that have gluten-free menus now: Outback, PF Chang, Thaifoon, Biaggi's, Z-Tejas, etc. Check your area...
  23. He is lucky to have you Nothing will help him to adjust to the gluten-free life more than having the support of the woman he loves I think it is so wonderful that you have taken an interest in this diet and the disease. The best book I've found on the disease itself (which I'm sure you have in your library) is called "Dangerous Grains." It explains...
  24. Don't forget Tropicana juices!! *Not* gluten free! - Michelle
  25. I had some of the withdrawls too - it lasted about 2 weeks for me. Depression, fogginess, anxiety - all that fun stuff! Maybe this will help you understand what's going on - This is from the book "Dangerous Grains": The addictive nature of gluten is often overlooked. For some, the first days and weeks of following a gluten-free diet are characterized...
