I'm not having any luck here The only gluten-free Clif bars that I can find (according to their website) are the "Nectar" bars - which have a measly 3 grams of protein. They might be good snack bars, but I definitely wouldn't classify them as "protein" bars. The Think Thin bars have whey in them - which is am profoundly allergic to. It's not...

ARCHIVED Adventures In Gluten/dairy/egg-free Cooking
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks to everyone for the responses Merika - no, my math was right - the correct usage (according to the box) per egg is 1 1/2 tsp. Times this by three and you have 4 1/2 - but *double* it - as was suggested on the Gluten Free Pantry website, and you have NINE tsp! Ack - so, I used a little less - giving me 6 tsp. (Geez this is complicated!) ... -
ARCHIVED Adventures In Gluten/dairy/egg-free Cooking
Emme999 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So anyway, I got all excited tonight and attempted my first dairy/egg/gluten free banana bread. I thought I would do something *really* cool and try the "Tofutti Sour Cream Banana Bread" from glutenfreeda.com - the recipe was already gluten & milk free, so I figured I could just use my Ener-G egg replacer and it would be fab. I downloaded some... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance...
Emme999 replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That sounds like it would work - but you need to find out if you are actually lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy before you can know for sure! From what I've read, it is the upper tips of the villi that allow for the digestion of lactose - so, if you have healed adequately, you ought to be able to digest the lactose without irritation. (Assuming... -

Mike - Wow. PhD with no HS diploma, that's something to brag about That alone makes a person infinitely more interesting! I lived in Taylorsville until I was about 20. I'm now living in Pepperwood (about 110th S. & 23rd E.) in mom & dad's big house while I go to school. It's odd - but free. And fortunately they gave up the idea... -
ARCHIVED Ingredient In Diet Sodas, Aspartame, Causes Cancer
Emme999 replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was looking into this a long time ago and found a great site. Here is the link: Open Original Shared Link I still have things with aspartame in them - but I don't consume huge amounts of anything with artificial sweetners. I might share a diet drink every couple of days with my boyfriend, but that's about it. My mom, on the other hand... -
Hey - I'm allergic to dairy and need a protein bar - any suggestions? (Remember - no whey! ) Thanks - Michelle

Hey Mike! Cool! I am a U student also. I was doing the business major, then realized that I really hated (dreaded!) all of my business classes. I'm moving into the Social Work major this fall. This is actually my second turn up at the U. I took about 10 years off and decided to see the world (well, at least a little bit of it ) and find out who... -
Hey Jenn, How ya doin'? I did have a hard time concentrating for a little while after I first started taking Effexor. That cleared up after a little while (I took the Effexor / Wellbutrin combo for 3 1/2 years) - but I don't remember how long it took - or if it was the addition of the Wellbutrin that helped clear my thoughts. I suggest that you try...

You guys are all so great *sniff* I wish we had a celiac commune where we could all just be safe and not have to worry about anyone messing with our food! Ruddabega - the antibodies attack your system for up to SIX MONTHS?? Holy hell. How do you know this? Nini - Ugh! I so know what you mean!! We are having a BBQ too - and though we have...

AAARRRGGHH!!!! I swear, I was doing SO GOOD with this gluten-free thing - then I come home from my boyfriends house and my mom tells me that there's a steak in the fridge. Cool! (I thought ! Silly me ) "Is it gluten-free? Has anything at all been put on this steak that might have gluten in it?" Of course I was assured that it was safe. Of...

Thanks Kaiti!! Thanks for risking whatever you were risking to post in the "overage" forum Where are you anyway (East Coast..? - specifically?) Oh and BTW - I think you are a lovely girl, but I'm sticking to the hetero thing too AND - I've currently got a boyfriend, so I'm not really looking for *anyone* besides some quality friends ... -
Wow Nini that's fantastic!! You are truly amazing and deserve so many congratulations Losing weight is never easy, and anyone who loses a significant amount (more than 20 pounds, in my book) deserves every bit of bliss they get from being thinner! I'm so happy for you :) - Michelle

Hey - for all of those fabulous Mormon celiac women - I think that my little brother has celiac disease too! He's a very cute guy - 24 years old, blonde, great shape, intelligent, etc. He's also going to BYU and doesn't have a girlfriend! I'm thinking that maybe if he met some clever celiac hottie he'd be more inclined to be tested for celiac disease... -
Hey everybody, I just wanted to tell you about one of my new favorite gluten-free menus - at Biaggi's. I *LOVE* the fact that they have gluten-free pastas!!!! YUM!!! I've probably been there about 4 or 5 times since I found out I have this (2 months ago!) It is really, really tasty. Since I'm limited with my dairy allergy - the menu options aren...

ARCHIVED Glutten Free Shampoo
Emme999 replied to irish's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm kind of a shampoo/conditioner snob and prefer the salon quality products. I use the Paul Mitchell "Instant Moisture" Daily Shampoo & Daily Treatment. For those who don't need as much moisture as I do (living in Utah!) - I've heard that the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil products are also gluten free - but be sure to check the labels I love this... -
Jenn - Try what you have. The cool thing about buying supplements is that you can almost always take them back for a refund if they don't work - even if you've taken half the bottle. Of course, this may not be true at the store you bought them at - so check if you haven't opened the bottle yet! Twinlab is not a bad company, and neither is Natrol...

Dessa - Hello there I *so* know what you mean about the cost thing! Ugh!! At one point in time (actually, a long drawn out point) I was paying $300/month for my anti-depressants. It's so freakin' expensive!! As for your question about where to buy vitamins - I usually get my at webvitamins.com or vitacost.com or myvitanet.com or vitaminshoppe...

ARCHIVED Ginger People, Labeling & Stomach Troubles
Emme999 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey I was just looking up the website for "Ginger People" so I can get some more of the crystallized ginger slices and noticed that they have "GLUTEN FREE" on many (all?) of their products. I knew this already but it's SO NICE to see a company that's thoughtful enough to list it! Yay for Ginger People!! Also - for anyone with stomach troubles - ginger... -

ARCHIVED Emotional Reactions To Food
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Carrie & Peaches - Thanks for understanding It's so crazy that I've gone through my entire life without realizing the connection between food & my emotions. But it's definitely there! One thing that I *have* known for a long time (even before finding out about Celiac) is that I have a very strong reaction to Broccoli. It makes me so happy...
