  1. Hey I went to a Gluten Intolerance Group meeting here in SLC the other night and they discussed reading labels & diet. I asked about this (grill contamination) and the everyone there said that they wouldn't eat on a grill that had been used with gluten containing marinades. They also said that it wouldn't burn off. The leader of the group has been...
  2. Does anyone know of a good wok/stir-fry cookbook? I love Asian food and it seems to me that cooking with a wok would be simple, quick, and gluten-free! I would love to find a book (with lots of pictures! ) that would give me lots of ideas & variations. If anyone knows of one, please fill me in! Thanks - Michelle
  3. So does nobody care about this?
  4. Stef you are amazing!! Congratulations!!! And good luck with the bone density test too And BTW - I think you deserve LOTS of brownies - Michelle
  5. If you are interested in this, I *highly* suggest L-Glutamine from Jarrow. It is pharmaceutical grade, pure, and inexpensive (particularly at webvitamins.com). Here is a link to their l-glutamine powder: Open Original Shared Link I also wrote to them asking if their l-glutamine was safe for celiacs and received a letter stating that their glutamine...
  6. Okay, this is a little more technical but worth reading: Gastrointestinal Disease The gastrointestinal tract is by far the greatest user of glutamine in the body, as enterocytes in the intestinal epithelium use glutamine as their principal metabolic fuel. Most of the research on glutamine and its connection to intestinal permeability has been conducted...
  7. Hello I've been meaning to post about L-Glutamine for some time, both for others & to remind myself why I need to be taking it. I hope that you will find this information useful A long time ago I started taking L-glutamine when I was doing a lot of weight lifting, because it helps your tissues to heal, increases immunity, makes you feel good...
  8. These *are* good!! I love that some of them are so fast & easy. (Step one - stick in microwave with water, Step two - drain, Step 3 - mix ingredients, Step 4 - EAT!!) Yumm And you're right - somehow things are especially tasty when they say "Gluten-free" on the box and you don't have to worry about it! I love this! - Michelle
  9. Jen - Just teasing! There were lots of posts and mine was soooooo long that it was probably hard to read. Sorry! I seem to have this problem with talking too much... Anyway - I hope you are doing better! - Michelle
  10. Kaiti - I know That's why I listed the ingredients. I also just sent them email. I will post their response when I get it. - Michelle
  11. When I worked in a health food store I had the chance to sample some of the vitamins - my absolute favorite were the childrens calcium tablets! The brand is Nature's Plus (Source of Life) and they are called Animal Parade Calcium - Children's Chewable with Whole Food Concentrates. They have 250 mg of Calcium and 50 mg of Magnesium per two tablet serving...
  12. Does anyone know of a good online company that's from the West Coast? I'm guessing the shipping costs wouldn't be so obscene if they were closer to me! (I'm in Utah!) Thanks - Michelle
  13. Soy doesn't make me sick but I certainly wouldn't use it to base my diet around. I don't think it's health promoting like so many others claim. But, I don't think (in small doses) it is problematic - for those who don't have soy allergies / intolerance of course! Here are some links on the evils of soy: Open Original Shared Link Some have argued...
  14. BTW - I sent them this email & got the following reply: Thank you. 15. Classico Alfredo Sauce is in mainstream stores. I don't know if the progresso soup you are talking about is gluten-free, but here is their website if you want to inquire: Open Original Shared Link - Michelle
  16. Whoa! I just checked this out - because I drink a lot of the Pacific Foods Almond milk (and love it! ) I think that the site that you referenced must be messed up. I went to the Pacific Foods site (Open Original Shared Link) and found the following information: The ingredients listed on the almond milk *there* are: Ingredients ALMOND...
  17. Dangerous Grains is primarily about the health problems for those with Celiac Disease and gluten allergies /sensitivity. However, the first chapter in the book is called "Grains and People: An Evolutionary Mismatch" so it does go so far as to suggest that humans should not be eating grains. The primary thought here is that we have not evolved to eat grains...
  18. This information was previously on the "Dangerous Grains" post. I thought we should move it so that we could stay on topic there & people who are looking for info on dairy could find it here Here are a few posts from the other thread: If you remove nothing else from your family diet - I would remove casein. If you want to learn about how unbelievably...
  19. Hey, we are way off topic here! I'm going to move some of this information to a new post "Research on Problems with Dairy" - please post anything else you have regarding milk/dairy there I think we should make this info available to people who wouldn't otherwise look under the "Dangerous Grains" topic. - Michelle
  20. Ugh. I just pulled out my China Study book and was going to copy some information but... there's too much! Try and find this book at your library or order it online. There are 44 pages of references (peer reviewed journals) alone. The book is over 400 pages. Let me just say that there are high correlations between areas of high milk consumption...

Okay, here are some links: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link (This one isn't real professional looking - nor does it have much in the way of references, but it's interesting) Open Original Shared Link...
  22. If you remove nothing else from your family diet - I would remove casein. If you want to learn about how unbelievably dangerous this is, look at the book "The China Study" which is one of the most well done epidemiological studies ever performed (spanning a time period over 20 years). I don't have the book with me now, but I'll post more information...
  23. I'm a huge fan of the "Dangerous Grains" book. I think that everyone who is newly diagnosed should have a copy. It is very thorough & well documented, with approximately 27 pages of references, most from peer-reviewed journals. The book "Going Against the Grain" that skbird noted is also really good. It is more focused on the benefits/disadvantages...
  24. Where are you located? I just went to a GIG meeting tonight where they talked about Progresso Cream of Mushroom Soup. From what they said, it is not generally stocked west of the Mississippi (or something like that!). One of the guys from the SLC GIG has talked to a manager at a local grocery store (Albertsons) who is going to order it for him - unfortunately...
