  1. Hey there I'm only 32, but I have osteoporosis and osteopenia also. That's actually what led to my diagnosis. How long have you been strictly gluten-free? I asked my doctor if I should be taking some sort of medication to strengthen my bones and he explained that there is typically a significant remineralization after a strict gluten-free diet...
  2. I went to a conventional allergist doctor and it was a total waste of time. She tested me for about 36 foods using the skin scratch test and determined that I was allergic to *nothing* then treated me like a neurotic patient and suggested I get some psychological counseling. Unbelievable! Fortunately, I had read in other areas that skin testing...
  3. Whoa Janelson! Calm down I've read a few of your posts and I understand a lot of what you've been through. I found out (according to the blood tests) that I had celiac disease the day before my first final - then I had the biopsy *during* finals! I was in "gluten-challenge" mode and almost lost my mind. Probably cried more during those couple...
  4. Whey & Casein are actually milk *proteins* - whey in particular is a great source of protein for vegetarians. It's in just about every protein shake & bar there is! It's simply the protein, no fat, no lactose - just protein. Most people don't have a problem with it. It's also in a lot of frozen dinners - as a cheap protein source. After I found...
  5. As long as you don't have a dairy allergy/intolerance, you should be fine - Michelle
  6. Hope you feel better soon Kaiti I was recently glutened also (Damn Tropicana!) and am still feeling the effects of it. It's rough. I had a *lot* of it - and I think I've done a good deal of damage I'm hitting the glutamine pretty hard too I often wonder what I'm really like.. I mean, I just learned about this celiac disease a couple months...
  7. Hey guys I have these horizontal ridges in my fingernails. They used to be really deep - for *years* I've had them. In fact, I can't even think of a time when I *haven't* had them! They were extremely deep - about the size of this -> V and kinda freakish I never knew what caused them though. I went to various doctors and asked about them and...
  8. Have you tried the Tofutti "Better than Cream Cheese" ? It's really good And dairy free And (from what I've heard) gluten free too! The company doesn't gaurantee that it's gluten-free, but I know of a lot of celiacs who use their stuff (Including me!) Congrats on finding a new tasty food! Thanks for sharing - Michelle
  9. Jen - Wouldn't it be great if *everyone* was able to figure out what intensifies their pain? Here is a post I did previously on "Allergy Pains" : Open Original Shared Link I hope you are able to reduce your pain Jen!! - Michelle
  10. That warning is required to be put on *all* supplements & vitamins. It doesn't mean that they don't have any value. I wouldn't (ever) give up the gluten-free diet because of claims from a company manufacturing an unproven product - but, who knows! It could be beneficial when you ingest a particle of gluten - not a great deal, but enough to damage...
  11. Carrie - Good point!! All of these omnipresent allergenic foods are a pain in the butt!! Jen - I questioned the validity of the tests at first too (I had mine done in the middle of March). I had been "enjoying" whey protein drinks, whey protein bars, and a ton of cheese on a regular basis. When it came up with a dairy allergy, I was like.. "No way...
  12. Dietary FAQ: I heard that dairy peptides (from casein) leave the body in about 2-4 days and that gluten takes much longer. How long does it take to eliminate gluten from the system, or at least bring it down to an acceptable level? Is it possible that gluten might never leave the body completely? We don't know the answer to this. In a study by Paul...
  13. Howdy I came across this last night and thought I'd share it with you guys (welcoming your feedback, of course!). I am allergic to dairy, eggs, & sesame so I'm always trying to determine just how careful I need to be so that my body will heal more quickly. This little bit of info. seems relevant! Food Allergies: The Complicating Factor...
  14. Thanks Peggy! - Michelle p.s. a few hours later... so far, so good! I think I'm in the clear
  15. Hey I'm interested in your personal experience! - Michelle
  16. Well I found this info (at Open Original Shared Link ) Hypromellose, 2208, 4,000 cps, USP (HY124) Synonymns: Methocel E4M; Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose; Propylene Glycol Ether of Methylcellulose; Modified Cellulose; HPMC If those are the correct synonyms for hypromellose, I'm guessing it's safe. I'm going to take one. Even if you find out later...
  17. Hi guys I need your help! I am in horrible pain today and need to take some ibuprofen. I have some prescription generic stuff but called the pharmacist about it and he was basically clueless about gluten. Yikes. The manufacturer is Par Pharmaceuticals. Anyway, here is the list of ingredients I found online. Please let me know if any of...

Wow Ian. You have no idea how much I'd be willing to pay for a bottle of that water..! - Michelle
  19. I just came across this poem that seems to fit this topic so well. (Hope you guys like poetry ) When love beckons to you, follow him Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you believe in him, Though his voice may shatter...
  20. Okay - dosage: James Braly, M.D., and Ron Hoggan - authors of "Dangerous Grains" suggest therapeutic 9-20 grams daily in divided doses for therapeutic effects. Be absolutely sure to take it on an empty stomach for optimal absorption (30 min. before eating or 2 hours after). As for which Jarrow product you should buy - the number of grams contained...
  21. Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows if the Jack Daniels Teriyaki EZ marinade is gluten-free. I saw "EZ marinade - teriyaki" on the Heinz list - but I don't know if this appies to the Jack Daniels sauces... hmmm.. And I love the Jack Daniels stuff!! Please let me know if you know What I'm most concerned about (in the ingredients list) is...
  22. Tiffany - I think you should set up a p.o. box where we can send you gas money! - Michelle
  23. Hennessey - We just did a huge post on the safety of L-glutamine. Here's the link if you want to check it out. Open Original Shared Link I just posted in there stating that it seems to have increased my sensitivity to the foods I'm allergic too (dairy, sesame, eggs). But, I'm not exactly sure what's going on there (pure speculation!). Your...
  24. Martyg - Thanks for the kind words I haven't taken vitamin shoppe supplements (though I've ordered a lot of stuff from them!) so I'm not real sure how to answer your question. One thing to think about is if they guarantee the contents of their products. Also, be sure to check their source for the glutamine and that it is gluten-free. I use...
  25. Congratulations on the good stuff The sleeping thing will change - most definitely. When I took it I couldn't get *enough* sleep. So just hang tight. You'll normalize As for the sex drive... hmm.. that's a tough one. Mine was helped by Wellbutrin - which is actually a drug they give to help people who are "frigid" - my boyfriend at the time really...
