ARCHIVED The Dreaded "travel With Catered Food"
Emme999 replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow Tiffany you are so on top of things!! Do you have a food dehydrator or something? I noticed a lot of foods under the "homemade stuff" category. That's so cool I love the dehydrated vegetables at the health food store (like "just peas" or "just ... some other vegetable " ) I envy your husband Wish I had a wife like you! - Michelle -
Hey, I saw a funny quote the other day... "Gravity doesn't exist - the Earth sucks!" tee-hee (I know, not related to celiac disease - but funny!) - Michelle

I wear multiple sizes too 4 - 6 - and after a big carb day (even if they are gluten-free!) 8! Ugh! This is kinda unrelated but I thought it might make you laugh Open Original Shared Link Be sure to roll your cursor over the pictures - Michelle -

ARCHIVED Getting Loved Ones Tested
Emme999 replied to printmaker81's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe you could show them this: (from a previous post I did a while ago) Hi there. There is a book called "Dangerous Grains" that deals primarily with gluten intolerance & Celiac. I highly recommend it. I'm quoting the following statistics from Appendix D in the book: "Comprehensive List of Gluten-Associated Medical Conditions". There are 187 conditions... -
ARCHIVED Getting Loved Ones Tested
Emme999 replied to printmaker81's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am having no luck getting my family tested either I *did* finally get my dad to have the test and was completely shocked when it came back negative. His mother is (self-diagnosed) "allergic" to wheat, rye, and barley. He is bipolar, has lots of neurological problems, has thyroid disease, and a ton of other illnesses that all seem to correspond with... -

ARCHIVED Sweet Rice
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh - one more thing I did was sprinkle in a little garlic. It didn't make it taste better I don't think I used enough to cause any major problems - but def. wont do that again! -
ARCHIVED Sweet Rice
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay! I made it! :) Haven't actually eaten it yet - but here's what I did. (Tasting all the way :9) I followed Tiffany's instructions, but then umm... *doubled* the ginger amount (I kept tasting it and it just didn't seem gingery enough!) and used dark brown sugar instead of white sugar. By the end of the cooking, it was tasting pretty yummy... -
This looks very, very cool! I added it to my "Favorites" and am definitely going to be spending some more time with it! Thanks for posting :) - Michelle

Hello everybody Since I've started the gluten-free diet I have been paying a lot more attention to food & how I react to it. I've noticed that my reactions are emotional. I don't (typically) get the GI reactions - but I find myself getting mad or weepy or completely apathetic after I eat certain foods. Does anyone else have this? It seems...

I remembered a little late - sorry! But I just want you to know that you don't need to worry about it Here is a link to some FAQ's about 5-HTP (from the book I mentioned): Open Original Shared Link And Berneses is absolutely right with her comment about essential fatty acids. You should be fine with flax oil (if you are taking enough). ...

DOH! I didn't even read this post before I posted mine! Sorry! Maybe I should start paying attention... - Michelle

Even better that the world for wheat gluten (according to macrobiotics) is "seitan" pronounced Satan - OR that one French word for wheat is "ble" which is kind of how it makes me feel - BLEH!

My doctor (in SLC) is fabulous, but unfortunately she only sees students at the U of U. You ought to contact someone at www.gfutah.org - the Utah Gluten Intolerance Group. I'm sure they could hook you up with a good doctor - Michelle

P.S. The 5-HTP wont make you throw up (in case you are wondering) it just might make your stomach uncomfortable. Just wanted to clarify *hug* Good luck!! - Michelle
-
Hey, I don't have much time to comment, but I just wanted to tell you to start the 5-HTP SLOW or it might make you nauseas. Don't take more than 100 mg/day for the first few days, then you can add 100 mg, and so on. You probably wont need more than 300 mg/day. You should take it on an empty stomach to get the best effect, but if it starts to make you...

LOL I have no financial interest in it either - or any of the other natural healing stuff I suggest I just want to share with everybody the stuff that has helped me in hopes that it can help someone else!! I do have an interview with Wild Oats tomorrow though! But your buying supplements anywhere on the planet is (unfortunately) of no financial...

Hello there I just thought I would try to kick off this new Meeting Room thing! Howdy I just attempted to post something in the new Meeting Room and (right after I hit the add new post button) my computer freaked out. Can someone please check and let me know if it is in the review process or if it never made it? It was called (something like) "Seeking Friends in Utah" Thanks - Michelle

Just thought I'd update: I've been off the pill for two months now and guess what!?! I still have a yeast infection and don't feel any different at all. However, I *did* start taking Brevail and it has done miraculous things for my mood swings & level of irritation. It's a supplement to help regulate your hormones. They intended it solely...
