ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes - Experience/reviews?
CR5442 replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just took a look at what BioCare are using. It is Protease1, which seems to be available to a number of companies producing digestive enzyme type products. Alvin are making a combination enzyme which sounds nothing like something as simple as Protease1. Open Original Shared Link so we can all have a read. Sure that BioCare aren't in violation of patent... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes - Experience/reviews?
CR5442 replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Skylark, I didn't know that you were a professional, I do apologise. I only really meant that they should speak to the people who produce this product so there is no guess work. I spoke to my nutritionist today and he said to not take it as a means to eat gluten but said it is likely that it decreases symptoms for example if you were to eat something... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes - Experience/reviews?
CR5442 replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would call or email the nutritionist at BioCare. Gluten Protease will be engineered specifically to break down the gliandin molecule chains, how far it does that I don't know and this is the key. If it can dissolve the whole strand, then when taken with the meal containing gluten it should help. UK regulations for activity statements on any kind of medicine... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes - Experience/reviews?
CR5442 replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I personally wouldn't eat gluten deliberately but I'm sure as it has the gluten protease in it, which is a gluten breaking enzyme (not entirely sure if we produce this naturally though) it could certainly give you a degree of easing of symptoms if you were to get accidentally glutened. One point to note though is that you should take it with the food that... -
ARCHIVED Odd Neuro Symptoms After Getting Cc'd?
CR5442 replied to saintmaybe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad you posted this. These are the exact same symptoms I used to get on gluten. Everyone would think I was completely drunk/stoned, when I would start to feel wierd after say a pizza and one glass of wine. So far I think I have only had a mild CC/glutening. Hope you find the source of yours. It must have been scary to have someone else point... -
This is really useful, thank you! I hadn't thought of Phenols. I've been eating as clean as I possibly can but it seems I might be reacting to my children's playdoh! Someone mentioned B12 so I have taken some foodstate B vits over the last 24 hrs and it does seem to have calmed the twitching down... awesome result! Hopefully as my gut heals the itching...

Many people have talked about itching and twitching on this site in the process of recovery. How long on average did you find it took for these symptoms to disappear? I don't itch all the time like I used to but now just in the middle and the end of my cycle (about 3 days in the middle and 7 - 10 days at the end). Out of interest has anyone here also suffered...

ARCHIVED Reaction To Coconut Milk
CR5442 replied to Fairy Dancer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is possible that you are intolerant to Coconut. I had pulse tests with my acupuncturist recently and there were only two things i reacted to... gluten and coconut. Try some pure coconut oil or pure coconut and see if you get the same reaction. -
Yes, I was taking three types at one point. Mainly Lifeplan and Nutrigest. However, I stopped taking them because my liver was getting lazy and even more congested. Instead I tried peppermint oil, which so far has done a great job of getting the bile flowing... which means i don't need the digestive enzymes. When I have a problem I take it about 1 hour...

ARCHIVED Tired Of Having Frequent "colds"
CR5442 replied to Rebekka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Saintmaybe, I totally agree. I think it is important to understand the immune system. Auto-immune means that the body is too busy fighting itself to fight the real invaders. Echinachea as someone mentioned above absolutely should not be used in this type of disease... absolutely right. There are other mild and supportive herbs though, particularly for... -
ARCHIVED Don't Animals Have Traces Of Gluten In Them?
CR5442 replied to George Knighton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Skylark, here in Europe there are plants that use protein. There was a big hoo haa about it! They use a mixture usually and probably some sort of adherence agent. I have looked for ingredients on the packaging but they aren't required here from what I gather. Needless to say I keep well away from boneless meat. -
ARCHIVED Newly Gluten-Free And Frustrated With Ongoing Stomach Issues
CR5442 replied to ifcrossroads's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could try lactosefree milk, or rice milk. Rice milk takes a bit of getting used to but eventually as it doesn't cause symptoms it becomes the lesser of two evils -
ARCHIVED Don't Animals Have Traces Of Gluten In Them?
CR5442 replied to George Knighton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Apparently they don't but as a lot of meat has protein added to it in order to give it water weight in packaging, I am not entirely sure! I certainly react to some chicken breasts I buy sometimes. The last ones were skinless and deboned, so it really makes you wonder what is added! Usually if I buy meat on the bone I don't react at all. -
ARCHIVED Newly Gluten-Free And Frustrated With Ongoing Stomach Issues
CR5442 replied to ifcrossroads's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There could be other foods that you are sensitive to. I found after stopping eating gluten that all my symptoms were magnified, perhaps because the glupey gluten wasn't lining my intestine any more and started to let every protein and particle through in to my blood. My itching got MUCH worse before it got better. Like you most of my symptoms in my first... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Having Frequent "colds"
CR5442 replied to Rebekka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is really interesting re. the Thyroid. I think that mine goes up and down as sometimes my acupuncturists picks it up and sometimes she says it's fine. My bloods last January were 0.82mu/l where normal is (0.35-4.94). This is a UK test so the parameters may be different. Does anyone from the UK know if my reading is normal... it would seem on the... -
ARCHIVED The Day After I Graduate Culinary School I Have To Go Gluten Free :(
CR5442 replied to Applegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Phil Vickery in the UK is a gluten free chef, as he is celiac.... so it is possible! There is so much demand for gluten free as people become more aware of the condition. Around 40% of the population carries the genes, and even if you aren't gluten intolerant or celiac there are a lot of people who cut it out for weight loss reasons, diabetes, fybromalgia... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Having Frequent "colds"
CR5442 replied to Rebekka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Of course the immune system is over active to your own body... my mistake. But not to invaders such as colds/flu/other viruses... I kind of corrected myself by saying it was 'exhausted'. The adrenals as well as thyroid should be tested for too. To be honest, a lot of diseases stem and are aggravated from a condition like this of things like thyroid, graves... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Having Frequent "colds"
CR5442 replied to Rebekka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You poor thing. I totally sympathize! You have definitely probably got these colds because of your low immune system... or exhausted immune system! Also, don't forget your body is trying to clear all the toxins out that it has accumulated over the period you were eating gluten. This can manifest in flu/cold type symptoms. Warming foods and herbs would... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With NHS Protocols (UK)
CR5442 replied to CR5442's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is awesome! Thank you Nora-N. I might even contact the professor directly as Sheffield is quite close to where I live. Wouldn't it be great if he could give me some answers to the Celiac/gluten sensitivity symptoms and make diagnostic suggestions. Interestingly he has done a piece on a man diagnosed incorrectly with MS, when it was actually celiac... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With NHS Protocols (UK)
CR5442 replied to CR5442's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does this mean that DQ5 and DQ1 also show propensity for Celiac? I know I have severe gluten intolerance because my acupuncturist tested for it. Perhaps adding the gene test to that diagnosis would be enough for me to be taken seriously at least by my family and friends. Every time I go away my friends give me pasta for dinner, and overnight I get sick... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With NHS Protocols (UK)
CR5442 replied to CR5442's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone so much for your answers! The problem i have is that gluten triggers severe migraines frequently. I am on my own with my children and we drive a lot up to my university. I just cannot risk having an aura whilst I'm driving... it would be really dangerous! I can't take 6 weeks off university or I won't get my degree in herbal medicine either... -
Has anyone else here had to go through endless meetings with doctors and dieticians in the NHS to come up drawing a blank unless you eat gluten excessively for six weeks to get a biopsy? My doctors won't write me down as celiac until I do the gluten six week challenge. They won't believe me when I say that I am getting better, even though there are still...

ARCHIVED Worse Reaction With Certain Foods?
CR5442 replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I had really bad reactions from things like Pizza, where flour dough is only just cooked. I seemed okay GI wise with things like shop bought cakes and croissants. However, I would always have the upper intestinal bloat and swing from D to C and back again no matter what I ate. Also things like Lasagne would always make me feel worse. I think it might...
