  1. So sorry to hear you are having to live with so much pain!!! I read your post and instantly thought of a book I read this summer. Just wanted to pass it along in case you might be interested. It is called The Road to Health by Laura L. Schroeder. It tells a story about a lady who contracted Lyme disease and was in so much pain, but after doing the Specific...
  2. From my experience, my responses seem to depend on WHO I am talking to. If they are just nosy and think it is weird, I keep it short and simple. "I get really sick if I eat bread." "I throw up." or "It's like getting food poisoned." or "I eat healthy food." or "I'm 'allergic' to wheat." If they are just plain nosy, I don't owe them any explanation. I will...
  3. I was the same way. I did the GFD (absolutely no cheating ever!) for a year and it STILL didn't work for me. So I resorted to the specific carbohydrate diet about 2 months ago...and saw big results in the intro diet especially...I'm still tweaking it to fit me. Haven't finished through all the phases yet. Hang in there! Looking forward to hearing good results
  4. It is better to hope than to despair.

  5. Have you tried looking into other 'diets'? I started the specific carbohydrate diet 6 days ago and I have noticed major changes, already. From 5 or 6 BM's a day to 1 or 2. Basically, you introduce one different type of food every 3-4 days to see what your GI system can or cannot tolerate. The SCDiet allows you to slowly introduce foods, thereby allowing your...
  6. Thank you for the suggestion! I ended up getting the DF/gluten-free Culturelle probiotic. Hope to see results!
  7. Yes, I did have a positive biopsy - taken last September. The villi were blunted, but apparently they are not now, I guess. I have mainly GI symptoms, fatigue, and probably some anxiety (related to the annoying symptoms). It's so strange how so many people are affected in different ways.
  8. You're situation sounds a lot like mine, except mine are mainly GI symptoms. (Everyone's reactions are different, but the culprit is the same.) I was gluten free for a year, with VERY little changes noted. I've started the specific carbohydrate diet (SCDiet) less than a week ago, and I've already noticed huge improvements, considering it's only been 6 days...
  9. Great!! Which one would you recommend?? Silly question probably, but what is DF?
  10. Thank you! I guess I am healing. Perhaps I do need some additional supplements. I haven't been consistent in taking my vitamins. Maybe some probiotics could help, too. Who knows. This celiac just seems like a hard puzzle to figure out!
  11. Thanks for that reminder that it does take time! I forget that. Everyone heals at different speeds. Congrats to you! It's a long, hard process, but it should be worth it in the end.
  12. silly-ac ('ac' as in "acknowledge") ...something like that
  13. Great response. And this goes with addressing the gluten issue with anyone who asks questions. Answering the question then casually changing the topic seems like the best way. Sometimes, it's easier said than done. (I think it does take practice though.) If we make it a big deal, they will make it a big deal, and vice versa.
  14. If you're near a Chipotle restaurant, everything there is gluten free, except the flour tortillas of course. My experiences there have been positive when I get the burrito bowls. I just kindly ask them to change gloves, and they should get you new lettuce and cheese. Of course, it's hard to avoid food on dates, but at least your food would look and be similar...
  15. That's a good attitude! There's no other way when it comes to getting healthy! Hopefully by next year, we'll both have this all figured out and feeling better- what a dream! I plan to start the diet tomorrow. I'm committing to it 90 days, so we'll see where it takes me! Definitely, keep in touch! You'll have to let us know what's worked for you!
  16. I had similar symptoms when I first started the gluten-free diet and I was EXTREMELY careful about cross-contamination, too. So, I would think that is NORMAL. With that being said, my symptoms after a year ONLY SLIGHTLY decreased. (Be sure to avoid 'natural flavors,' too. I didn't know that it could contain gluten until later on...) P.S. - I'm thinking...
  17. Hi there! Yesterday I found out the strangest 'news' I had ever heard, concerning the disease plaguing my body - celiac. Long story short... -diagnosed a year ago with celiac, went gluten free -still same GI symptoms 8 months later -endoscopy showed gastritis (medicine didn't help) -same GI symptoms -August pill cam results came out... ...
  18. No, ma'am, I haven't. I've been off of dairy, too. I have wondered if it could be corn or eggs...not sure.
  19. Hi friends. I'm going to a new doctor to get a second opinion. I've been gluten free almost 5 months and am still experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms on a very strict gluten free diet. Some symptoms include extremely fatigued, rapid and irregular BM's and flatulence. This stinks. I'm grateful for any words of wisdom. Thank you.
  20. Hi there! I saw your post and just wanted to recommend what I use when buying groceries. I'm still fairly new, so I'm still learning too but a gluten-free grocery shopping guide has been extremely helpful. I have Open Original Shared Link but there are other ones out there.
  21. We all know where you're coming from. As already mentioned, it's completely normal to be frustrated, angry and upset, but we can't stay there forever. What has helped me is finding pleasure in the simple things and look for the bigger picture that one day I will feel better. I didn't realize how much I relied on "good food" to quench my temporary appetite...
  22. I like the suggestion of just changing the subject when asked. That seem like it would be the easiest way to "ignore it." I hate having pity parties, but mostly I hate it when people feel sorry for me. I'd like to just act like it's no big deal, when in actuality food does seem like a big deal because most social events involve food. I'm the first and only...
  23. It's the holiday season, the time of the year where families get together and eat food! Not just this time of the year but anytime and anywhere, with family and friends alike. I'm getting tired of people asking about my gluten free diet and what foods I can and cannot eat. I'm tired of me and my "special" food being the topic of conversation. Don't get me...
  24. Keep in mind that celiac/gluten free diet is ALWAYS at the forefront of our minds and it probably didn't cross your mother's mind. So I wouldn't take it personal, it more than likely wasn't intentional. It's foreign to think that people without celiac don't have to know every single ingredient and brand that was put into a certain type of food. It is very...
  25. Any recommendations of a doctor that is familiar with celiac?? Thanks for any input.
