ARCHIVED Back To The Coke Debate....
connole1056 replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my gosh-I did not even know they still made RC. Is it available nationally. That is a blast from the past and I would like to get it if it is gluten-free and Available near me. -

I think cdford made some very good points. I had not thought of things that way. Thanks for bringing up those points. -
ARCHIVED Who's Job Is It To Know What's Gf

I think there may be a few problems here: 1-Following the diet might seem overwhelming. It is alot to take in and you have to keep yourself up to date because those food labels are always changing! 2-He may simply not care. 3-He could have decided he does not need to do any of the work because someone else is doing it for him. Sometimes people need to... -
ARCHIVED Cereal Anyone?
connole1056 replied to relkins's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The really expensive machine I referred to was called Zoruishu, or something like that. There are a few models available. I am glad to hear that someone else bought a cheap one and did not have a problem with them. I think I am one of the only people in my support group who did not spend a few hundred on a the bread machine. The thinking is that since the... -
My husband never asks for gluten-free food. He demands it, with a big smile on his face! Sometimes it really is not the waiters, but the cooks who do not want to deal with menu changes. When a waiter is" trouble" in the kitchen a chef can make it very difficult for him-taking a long time to get orders out, etc which will obviously hurt the waiter's tips...

ARCHIVED Cereal Anyone?
connole1056 replied to relkins's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
VydorScope, I bet everyone with celiac disease can understand what you are going through. I think it is very difficult to introduce new types of food to a toddler or preschooler. They get very set in their food likes and dislikes. Much of the gluten-free food is bought frozen, but if it is not I freeze it in small portions. This saves money because so much... -
I thought MSG was something that had to be listed as an ingredient if present. Is this not true? I am asking because someone asked what MSG was present in.

ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
connole1056 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just so there is no uproar-I was not judging anyone's level of belief in the validity of the consecration. I do not and cannot know what a person truly thinks about any issue, religious or otherwise. However, I did point out that people have taken a leap of faith and received the host without problem. I thought some Catholics would like another side of the... -
ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
connole1056 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
To answer you lovegrov, I never said or implied that anyone you know who got sick was imagining any sickness or reaction. Since faith is between God and the faithful as individuals I cannot say whether or not their faith is strong, weak or somewhere in between the two. But that could be something you could ask them. I know people who have received the host... -
ARCHIVED Any Gluten Free Ice Creams?
connole1056 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Carvel cakes in my area, New England, are all made with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, but the cake has to be ordereithout the crunchies as I previously stated. Since the cake has to "set" one cannot go into the store and get a cake right on the spot. It does need to be pre-ordered. The gels for the toppings are also gluten-free.By this I mean the gels... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dog Food?
connole1056 replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am happy to hear you will not be eating the dogfood. I did not know what you were talking about either! Most warehouse clubs like BJ's have really inexpensive disposable gloves that can be worn when scooping you dog's food into his bowl. I always wash my hands after putting out the dogfood because it skeeves me not to, but you never know when an emergency... -
ARCHIVED Any Gluten Free Ice Creams?
connole1056 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have not seen any mention of Carvel ice cream, so I am adding it. The company makes ice cream cakes that can be made without the cruchies in the center. Carvel has become very small compared to what it used to be, but if there is one near you try it. -
ARCHIVED Quaker Rice Cakes
connole1056 replied to Eliza13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Quaker's claim to fame is oats, yes. However, it is not as though everything is made in one room! Mydaughter loves their rice cakes and has never had problems. But if one were feeling uncomfortable about cross-contamination at the factory there are many brands of rice cakes available. Each person has to decide for himself about taste though. Some brands are... -
ARCHIVED Help Need Advice!
connole1056 replied to celiacboy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All the conflicting information from specialists really bothers me. Especially when the specialists are "experts".I do not think anyone is an expert on anything. It does sound like your child has another intolerance or allergy, if he is absolutely not ingesting gluten. Does he have DH as well? I could not tell from your post, but you did not mention rashes... -
ARCHIVED 8 Year Old Possible Cd
connole1056 replied to young5849's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would never subject anyone to a gluten-free diet unless I had a diagnosis. Although everyone does get used to the taste of the food and the industry is doing a great job improving the food, it is still a strict diet and if there is no reason to be on it, why do it? I recommend an experienced tech, although you may not find one when you walk into a lab... -

ARCHIVED "offical" Results On My Son...
connole1056 replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this is not the forum, but that totally sounded like an HMO! So basically, its okay to use the hospital, but not all its facilities? As for Quest Diagnostics, it could be work overload or a simple mistake but whatever it is, it is wrong! The insurance company does not reimburse even a percentage if you go out of network? No wonder so many people have... -
I do have to agree with celiac3270 on this one. Being an "advanced member" does not refer to anyone's knowledge , just his number of posts. Personally, I think the labeling could be done away with as what is refers to has no inpact on what the poster has to say. Otherwise, I hope BAMBAM is feeling much better!

ARCHIVED Too Good To Be True?
connole1056 replied to connole1056's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do not know if the person in question is in denial, a liar or even a real person!! It could be entirely made up and the person a figment of someone's sick imagination. I am glad other people took the time to read what was on the site. Some people may not know the info is untrue. That is what I meant when I posted this and said wouldn't doctors have heard... -
ARCHIVED "offical" Results On My Son...
connole1056 replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When you talk about Quest, are you referring to Quest Diagnostics? It really amazes me that people cannot decide for themselves what lab they want to go to, especially if the lab that is allowed by insurance seems to make alot of mistakes. I guess I'm lucky in that respect because I can go to any doctor, lab, etc. But that is not celiac disease related... -
ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
connole1056 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gapspan brought up some very important issues. I agree with what was said about the title itself. I did not know the exact formula for food labeling he spoke of, but I was aware that the definition of "gluten-free" is not the same worldwide. I was warned about this years ago. Some people will not eat anything gluten-free from other countries. It was a... -
ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
connole1056 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Steadyed spoke of what I had touched on. I am glad you brought it up. The point is that after the consecration the host does NOT contain gluten. Most people do not have the faith to believe that and that is where much of the problem lies. Many other religions view the host as symbolic and not the actual body of Jesus. If this were part of my religion and... -
ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
connole1056 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was not an insult, it was the truth. A rogue is someone who engages in acts that vary from the standard. That is what the priest did when he claimed the girl's First Communion was valid. Claiming he is a rogue priest was not sinning. I was stating a fact. It's akin to me calling him a brunette if he had brown hair. Thanks for worrying about my immortal... -
ARCHIVED My Son's Blood Test Is In, Is It A Done Deal?
connole1056 replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My pedi Gi said NEVER go on a gluten-free diet before a concrete diagnosis of celiac disease. The reason is that if a biopsy is done on an intenstine that has healed because of a gluten-free diet the result will be a false negative. Some intestines heal much faster than others, so one cannot say going gluten-free just a short time before the biopsy will...
