ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
JACKMAT--- On page 11, greengirl posted an article written on the SCD. I read it and researched its thoughts on the negative parts of the diet. I found their negative claims to be false. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I one time gained 12 lbs after a gluten escapade the day before, so I understand how 4 lbs overnight is definately not unreasonable, but it definately sounds like you can't tolerate corn!!! -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?

Guys, good luck finding things to eat. If you are eating lots of fruits, veggies and meats that you can tolerate, that is a good foundation to any diet. I am sure it is so difficult finding things gluten-free and corn free. Good luck but definately keep us updated! -

so companies add corn products to canned fruits and veggies like applesauce??? That must be why the SCD is so adamant about staying away from canned things. Hang in there everyone with the corn problems.... -
When I went to Burger King for my basketball road trips, I ordered the low carb chicken breast, which is a chicken breast that is just put on a few lettuce leaves and topped with a tomato slice. I always talked to the manager to make sure there was as little chance as possible for cross contamination. The chicken does have soy in it though.

ARCHIVED How Gluten-free Are Nuts?
PreOptMegs replied to SColor's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think one needs to watch for the dry roasted because I have seen wheat starch as an added ingredient. -
ARCHIVED Vanilla Extract
PreOptMegs replied to Ronnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the pure spice all natural Vanilla. it is amazing. the flavor is so much better than the "Pure vanilla extracts" ususally bought. It is like 13 dollars a bottle, but it is all pure ingredients with no high fructose corn syrup like the other ones have. -
"Diabetes, pernicious anemia and thyroid problems have all been linked to pre-mature graying." Open Original Shared Link I hadn't ever heard that before, but that is interesting. I have learned the thyroid pretty much controls everything, so why wouldn't it be linked..

ARCHIVED Response From Garnier Fructis

I thought Maltodextrin could be from corn or from wheat, so it could potentially be bad???? -

Honestly, here is how I added things in. Yes, I started out very strict on the diet, but since it is fresh fruit season, I have to have some fruit. Basically, I eat the fruit even if I think it is going to cause problems, just to get the craving out. If I get gas later, then I know I wasn't ready for it. Basically, I take out one day on a weekend to... -
Those are classic hypothyroid symptoms. Did you just get TSH checked, or did you get teh free T3, T4? I would definately see a specialist.

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
About the article posted on SCD. .. The main argument was that the body was not getting enough short chain fatty acids in the diet because these are mostly found in starchy vegetables and the doctors said that long term effects without SCFA could potentially be bad. But the thing is, SCFA can be found in other foods that are legal for us... "Omega... -

ALso, Emerill was making a flourless chocolate cake, but he said it was more like a chocolate brownie. The recipe is on the food network if anyone is interested. It looked delicious! -
SUCCESS! I am losing a lot of weight pretty quickly. I finally got all of the estrogen out of my body from the birth control I was on, but now my increased synthroid is really kicking in. I feel great and hope to continue the weight loss. I lost 7 lbs last week and I know for most that sounds unhealthy, but really, I just think it was most of the hypothyroid...

For the SCDers--- At home, there are a lot of left over hard boiled colored eggs, but the coloring dye tablets have cellulose gum and maltodextrin in them. They are gluten free, but I am not sure how much can permeate the shell. It seems unlikely that the maltodextrin/cellulose could, but I am reluctant to eat the eggs because they are "blue". Anyone... -
When I was being tested for antibodies against Gluten, they just took a vile of blood and checked my TSH, so I got a double wammy of hypothyroid and celiac all in one. You can definately develop hypothyroid at any time in your life because it is separate from celiac and gluten, although it has been shown that celiacs tend to have more autoimmune problems

ARCHIVED Explaining Excessive Gas To Those Near Your Bum
PreOptMegs replied to lorka150's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When I was in my prime celiac days and still eating lots and lots of gluten, I had the nastiest gas. That was part of the reason I had to get checked out. I knew there was no way. I laugh now, but it was embarrassing then (because when you have to share a room with 3 other basketball players on a road trip.....) -
