ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?

I will definately look into that. I just got my TSH read in early December, but I really want to ask my doctor to check it again. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Okay so just in the past couple of weeks, my body has been acting totally crazy again. I feel like I have no control over my weight/body. I just got my TSH back and they said it was 1.35, which I think is okay, but I am convinced it needs to be checked again. As soon as basketball is over I am going to have to get back on SCD 100%. This was the only diet... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
JSTD- You can definately do chicken or turkey, tuna, or fish (if it isn't packed with broth which contains soy) in the intro, and yes, I would definately follow the diet especially the introduction part. I didn't have any "D" either, but it is important to get a good start on this diet since you are going for intestional health here. -
I was really wondering if their fat free salad dressing had gluten in it and also if anyone has had a good or bad experience here. I know it is crazy to think about the "pasta house", but I have family that really want me to go out to eat with them....

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?

A lot has been said lately about gaining weight on this forum. How have my fellow SCDers done as far as that goes? I definately lost weight with this diet, but I had to limit cheese, peanut butter.... -

PreOptMegs replied to Mahee34's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I noticed the other day that something said contains milk and soy, but it also had barley malt in it, which was not listed as a main allergen, so you are right.... it pays to read carefully. -
ARCHIVED Any Guidelines For Losing Weight?
PreOptMegs replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow... I just want to say that some people get full off of eating basically nothing. I am not one of those people, so I understand when people are suprised when they realize a serving size is so small. Yes, serving size should count for something, but for me, I fill myself up with foods that are mostly water and low in calories... Example: carrots, green... -
It really is so easy to gain weight. Even if you eat just 200 extra calories per day, weight gain is inevitable. Especially when someone is eating all of the gluten-free options out there these days. It is still thought of that celiacs NEED to gain weight so it hasn't been looked at as an issue, but I know there are many "gainers" out there..

ARCHIVED Any Guidelines For Losing Weight?

Honestly, if you eat too small of portions, it is just a "tease" for your body and you are going to end up eating more anyway, so just eat a satisfying amount the first time... -
ARCHIVED Any Guidelines For Losing Weight?
PreOptMegs replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had the same problem and it turned out I was hypothyroid. After I got that straightened out, I lost about 10+ lbs. Also, I went on the SCD (Specific carbohydrate diet), which basically cleans you out. You eat no processed foods. If you really want to lose weight and allow your intestines to heal, go on this diet!!!! -

ARCHIVED Help! Weight Gain On gluten-free Diet
PreOptMegs replied to MegGFBoston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I definately agree that the gluten-free treats are really a lot more harm than they are worth eating. Your body will perform according to how you fuel it. I try to eat as few of processed foods as possible and lots of protein and complex carbs. It is so easy to gain weight even if following a gluten-free diet. There are so many ice creams, trail mixes... -
How many of you guys would consider yourself overweight, or are not happy about your weight because of your new eating habits after going gluten-free? I definately agree with hoarding.... If I see M&Ms, they are mine!!!!!!!

ARCHIVED gluten-free Energy Foods
PreOptMegs replied to uk sal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I eat a ton of brown rice, peas, red potatoes, carrots, corn, green beans, broccoli, califlower, wild rice, popcorn, raisins, peanuts.... just to name some. -
When I was strictly following SCD, I never had those crazy cravings. I mean, sure I would treat myself to raisins, cheese, and PB, but now that I have introduced gluten-free "junk" food into my diet (M&Ms, ice cream, cheetos...) I seem to be losing control. I am vowing to stop it because food isn't worth it!!

I was just wondering if binge eating is prevalent among people who must follow a gluten-free diet. I find that if I am ever surrounded by food I CAN eat, I tend to over eat...

ARCHIVED Help! Weight Gain On gluten-free Diet
PreOptMegs replied to MegGFBoston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I know I gained a bit these holidays.... when you know that you are limited to the deserts you can eat compared to the rest of the people in your house, then I know I tend to over-indulge on the bad things like Snickers and M&Ms. It is just going to take some massive will power to get through it. -
ARCHIVED Overweight And Celiacs
PreOptMegs replied to krackers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Rusla--- I was drinking a TON of water too for a while, but I noticed that I was really drinking too much and overwhelming my kidneys. Furthermore, after I drank only 3 bottles of water one day, my weight went down about 3 lbs!! I would just be careful with that much water. Actually, 1 gallon per day is probably way more than you need at 5'4". Of course... -
ARCHIVED Questions To Bring To Celiac Specialist
PreOptMegs replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Question.... what is the difference between being gluten intolerant and celiac. Aren't they two sides of the same coin? I saw it posted earlier that she was thought to be gluten intolerant, but not celiac???? -

I know TSH is measuring your thyroid level. Your TSH is very good at 1.0. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?

I totally agree about the weight... when strictly following SCD, I got to my skinniest I have ever been. Now the lbs have creeped back a bit, but then again I am lifting weights and working out so I give myself a couple lb buffer...
