Wow, that seems like a big jump for someone who is just starting the regimen. Perhaps it is just my doctor, but she is extremely "stingy" when it comes to bumping me up.

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Of course you will feel better very quickly because you are staying away from processed foods, but to be truly healed in SCD sense, it is going to take a while, so please stay away from flaxmeal. If you have C, the best thing I have found is mashing up carrots that have been cooked into oblivion. I make a puree using a blender and truthfully it goes... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
FLAXMEAL? BAD, VERY BAD. That is why you are not healing faster. -
My TSH was just drawn about 3 weeks ago. It was 4.44, so I was upped from 0.075 to 0.1. It makes a HUGE difference. Although, I was also put on birth control (ovcon 35) because I hadn't had a period in 2 years... yes 2 years.. OVCON 35 was awful for me. I was gaining about 2 lbs per day eating carrots, strawberries and chicken breast. Lovely. I have...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Good At All?
PreOptMegs replied to Carolita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is a website can explain it better than I can, but I will try (www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com). The SCD is a cleaning out diet that starves out all of the bad bacteria in your gut. It is the hardest diet I have ever been on, but I feel amazing. Basically, only the simplest fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses are allowed. No processed foods.... -
Yeah, the damn TSH. Doctors think this is just the best thing in the world.... I hate it. "Normal" range is rediciulous --- from 0.3-5 or something. If my TSH is even around 2, I don't lose weight. It is so hard trying to get the right synthroid dose so I can actually lose weight.

Yeah, a while back there was a thread that listed all of the celiac or gluten free celebrities. THe one that stood out in my mind was "Posh" spice, Victoria Beckham. -
When I found out I was gluten intolerant (blood test very positive and positive response to dietary changes) I also found out I was hypothyroid. All I have to say is being hypothyroid sucks badly. I play basketball for the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and our coach weighs us. I can't tell you how embarrassed and frustrated I am when I weigh more than...

THere are so many addicting gluten-free goodies.... example Snickers, butterfinger, 3muskoteers, dove chocolates, hershey bar, m&m, most edy's ice cream, tootsie rolls (and frooties), air heads, .... the list goes on, but these were some of my favorites -
ARCHIVED Waffle Syrup
PreOptMegs replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wish I could think of the brand name of the syrup I used. It was sugar free and on the back of the bottle it had clearly written "This product is free of Gluten". I was so excited, I had to buy it... it was pretty expensive. -
I have tried looking this up on the internet and I also e-mailed the company, but no response.... Let us know if/when you find something out.

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Corinne- The cravings do go away. I just tell myself that I cannot have them. For example, i was addicted to cadbury mini eggs before this diet and now I don't even go near them because I know how well this diet works. Actually, I find myself craving things I can eat on this diet like fruits, definately raisins, natural peanut butter, and CHEESE... -

Try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I feel amazing 99.999999999% of the days. I am talking awesome! If you want to really "heal" then this is the diet you should try. -

PreOptMegs replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Gluten is a protein, so it is possible that it can be denatured by temperature and thus made inactive, but I do not know the exact temp range in which it does occur, but my point is that it is possible. I mean, eggs are mostly protein and look at how quickly they are denatured and thus coagulate (scrambled eggs). Each protein is different, but all have... -

How is everyone doing on the SCD? Updates? I am doing well and feeling good. I can eat all of the legal foods on SCD, which helps me to get some variety in my diet. -
ARCHIVED Did A Perfect Atkins Day Today.
PreOptMegs replied to CMCM's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No diet that includes lean meats, fruits, and vegetables is going to be unhealthy. It is just a matter of keeping a good balance and it should work out very well. It is the gluten-free packaged "goodies" that one needs to look out for. I couldn't believe what I was putitng into my body... -
Funny story... I was in honeybaked ham and I asked the manager if it was gluten free or not. He absolutely assured me it was gluten free, then 10 minutes later said, "oh, but the ingredients list wheat starch..." WhAT? That is definately not gluten-free then.... and if I get the whole, "Oh you can't have glucose" thing one more time, I may hurt someone...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
PreOptMegs replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am now able to eat raw fruits and vegetables. I still feel good, but my weight WILL NOT come down. I am so frustrated right now... I just got my synthroid upped, which is how I lost all of the weight last summer, so I don't know where to turn now. -
Being on a raw diet is severely hard on your digestive system. I am sure most of us do not need to put our intestines in any more stress than they already are.

LOL! I just thought I would throw some biochemistry in the mix because your brain cells NEED glucose, so it is important that your body be efficient in converting the foods you are putting into your body into sufficient energy, but anyway--- So what is the list of foods that you are eating over and over? I also see that you are hypothyroid. I am too... -
ARCHIVED Did A Perfect Atkins Day Today.
PreOptMegs replied to CMCM's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Honestly, it makes sense why the Atkins diet works for people.... it is sort of a similar diet to the Specific Carbohydrate diet, which is amazing. From a biochemical point of view, people on Atkins diets need to make sure they are getting Biotin in their diet. It is a necessary cofactor of the enzymes that catalyze the reactions to make glucose from non... -

I just started on BC last week because it had been 2 years since my last period. First, I lost a lot of weight, then the gluten thing, then I continued to have thyroid problems, so finally I should be set up to have one in about 17 days. I hate the bc pills though... tons of bloating/ weight issues and it makes me totally nautious. It sucks because i just... -

I only get gas if I have eaten something i am not ready for. I don't get gas at all if I stick to the normal carrots, meat, yogurt... I would say it occurs within 2-3 hours after eating it. -
