Okay, so it is the day after the "disaster" and truthfully, it was just another day. I did not feel ill, sick, nor did I have any signs of problems. I think it is just a testament to how the diet really does work and obviously I have made great strides of progress in staying strict to the diet for the past 5 months. I am happy I got to enjoy all of the...

I totally fell off the SCD wagon...... I had been completely faithful for the first five months and today I saw a bag of M & Ms and I couldn't help myself. I ate the food 4 hours ago and so far I don't feel too bad, but I don't know really when to expect the "bad" feeling. I couldn't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anytime I want to eat something I know I shouldn't have, I always say this quote to myself "A moment on the lips, but an eternity on the hips..." and how true it is. I tell myself that it just isn't worth it because it is just food.

That would be awesome! It is nice when the box screams GLUTEN FREE at you. I always feel much better. -
Is there any internet source where I could get a listing of gluten-free birth control pills. I haven't had a period for about 1.5 years and I have been checked out by my doctor and she wants to start me on SEASONALE at Halloween if I haven't started yet. Does anyone know about SEASONALE, or have they used it? I like the fact that it only allows 4 periods...

I just want to add my 2 cents again about the importance of sticking to the diet. Trust me, I know it is one of the hardest things I have ever done, but if you don't stick to the diet, then progress is slowed!

Oh yeah... here is a list of the foods I frequently eat swiss cheese mild cheddar cheese (block form, no shreaded allowed) raisins peanuts or any other nut you can shell yourself bagged pecans, wallnuts or anything that just contains the nut (no added oils or such) eggs yogurt with honey or fruit added all of the allowed...

I am so excited that we may have a few more SCDers. If you are really interested, then you must buy the book and read over the pertinent chapters (9 and 10, I think..) a few times to get the rules down pat. I am going to admit it is a hard diet, but man is it worth it. I know most celiacs who just eat gluten-free take a long time before their situation...

Since being diagnosed with being gluten intolerant, my mindset about food has totally changed. It is like my body and brain knows what I can and can't have and I don't even crave anything I can't eat.... but since I guess I could technically eat a peanut butter cup because it is gluten-free, I know the aftermath will not be good, so I just continue on with...

ARCHIVED Stupid Walmart!
PreOptMegs replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is what I found on the internet.... so I hope it is applicable???? The USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline receives many questions about natural flavorings listed on meat and poultry labels. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. What substances or ingredients can be listed as "natural flavor," "flavor," or "flavorings... -

Does anyone know for sure that the "natural flavorings" contain gluten? -
To echo what was said... every opportunity you get to eat needs to be filled with the highest calorie dense foods. nuts, dried fruit, red meat, fried anything....

PreOptMegs replied to SandyShoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
VydorScope--- I thought I was the only one with the raisin fettish!! I eat the whole can, too. ALso, I love swiss cheese and peanuts! -
I have posted this a lot, but I believe in it 100%. THe gluten-free diet didn't do it for me. period. Try looking into the specific carbohydrate diet (www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com). Any questions, please ask. It is an amazing diet and I feel better than I ever have.

awesome! thanks -
I would definately recommend the yogurt maker as soon as possible. I wasn't exactly "craving" yogurt, but I needed a lower calorie calcium source than cheese, and the proteobiotics have been awesome. My digestion has improved so much with the yogurt. I would definately recommend it even if you aren't a big yogurt fan, just for the healing benefits.

A question about the Wal-Mart deal... what exactly are they doing? From what I understand, they are making the brands they sell in the stores put on the label if it has wheat, barley, etc,.... or is it going to force them to put clearly on the label GLUTEN FREE..? -

Is this only in California? I live in Southern Illinois but go to school in St. Louis Missouri and the only thing I know of around me with a gluten-free menu is Outback and the fast foods like McDonalds........ -
ARCHIVED Melting Velveeta?
PreOptMegs replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
TO melt velveeta I always cube it up and add just a little bit of milk (or water) to "get it going". WOrks every time! -
I thought I remember reading that it is required to stay on the diet a year before beginning to introduce potatoes, chocolate, etc, but they say that they do not recommend a diet high in processed or refined foods ever again. I can handle that.... I just want one day a week to indulge myself in all of the chocolate I can handle. So after eating the chocolate...

I am so bummed out about the tuna. I had eaten 8 cans before I did a thorough check and found the "soy". I didn't have any adverse affects (No gas, discomfort, no signs) at all with the soy. I don't know if that is good or bad. Hopefully it means that my digestive system is healing, but that is just a guess. It is going to be so hard for me with Halloween...

Clover Leaf does not ring a bell, but maybe I just need to look harder at my grocery story. The "mainstream" tuna at my grocery store is starkist and chicken of the sea. I think I have seen a pouch of tuna that is just tuna packed in water, but the pouches can be so expensive....

ARCHIVED Am I Alone
PreOptMegs replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was definately anxious to figure out what was giong on . I play college basketball at the University of Missouri St. Louis, so being healthy is a priority just to make it through the long and very exhaustive season. I didn't know how I would handle it if it would slow me down athletically. I found that the more I read and learned about the disease and... -

To echo nini- Stay away from the processed foods at all cost. Only when I started that type of diet (SCD) did I get better. You could look into it at www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com. I have never felt this good...EVER
