  1. I e-mailed Kingsford to see what they had to say....... "Dear Ms. Alberts, Thank you for contacting us about Kingsford Regular Charcoal. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers. Unfortunately, this information is proprietary. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Again, thank you for contacting us. Sincerely...
  2. I got a yogurt maker 2 weeks ago, so I started adding that, but everytime I try to add something, I get excessive gas and constant "gurgling" in my stomach that isn't ever there when I just eat carrots, ripe bananas, green beans, meat/eggs, or yogurt. Natural peanut butter doesn't give me any problems either. I have tried pineapple, strawberries, blueberries...
  3. Dangerous Grains was very informative as well!
  4. I am sort of frustrated with SCD. Everytime I try to integrate something new, I see signs that I shouldn't have tried it. I have been on this diet for a while and I am sick of eating carrots, green beans, and hamburger patties. Anyone else having problems integrating things? i am dying for strawberries!
  5. Also, for those on the Specific carbohydrate diet..... would using charcoal be bad anyway?
  6. My family was grilling tonight and I opted out because they were using Kingsford charcoal and I think I remember someone posting that it had gluten in it and it was affecting some people. Is this right or have some been able to use it with no problems? Also, is there a readily available name brand that guarantees theirs is gluten free so I can have my family...
  7. I have the book "dangerous grains". It is absolutely amazing and I recommend it for everyone, not just celiacs. It goes into how Americans and humans in general are consuming way too many grain products and how these grains are the cause of many, many health problems. It states how eliminating these grains from your diet will be better for anyone's overall...
  8. I tried to introduce raisins into my SCD today, but man did they ever go over badly. I don't know if I should restart the diet, or just go on... I think I will take it easy for a while and stick to the tried and true foods I know don't mess me up. I just got a yogurt maker, so hopefully that will speed up the healing process!
  9. I am considered gluten intolerant as well. My bloodwork was positive, but biopsy negative. Anyway, I am reading the book "Dangerous Grains" and it is such an informational book. It basically says that they are trying to get doctors to realize that gluten intolerant and celiac are both an equally negative reaction to gluten, and thus should be treated the...
  10. The same thing had been happening to me.... I would eat approximately 1200 calories a day, only to not lose a single pound. My doctor said it definately sounded like I needed to get my thyroid levels checked again. I would definately check that first. It sound like classic hypothyroid!
  11. I had been feeling bad too (1-3 most days) but I have been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for about 3 weeks now, and I feel close to 100% everyday. I highly recommend it to everyone!!! (www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com)
  12. I just had a biopsy done last week and the Dr. told me I had gastritis as well. I now take a Prevacid OTC each day. I have never had acid reflux or heartburn problems, so it was news to me.
  13. Those were exactly my symptoms as well. I had positive bloodwork, and I just got a biopsy done last week. I started a Gluten free diet before getting the biopsy, so I know it will be inaccurate, but being gluten-free is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. Actually, I am on a special gluten-free diet, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (www.breakingtheviciouscycle...
  14. I went to GI today for biopsy and he noticed an excess amount of acid in my stomach and perscribed me nexium or the equivalent medication. Does anyone know if this medicaiton is going to be a problem on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
  15. I started SCD two weeks ago. I really believe in it. I believe this diet is the healthiest diet I could possibly be on. I haven't had the weight loss though that others have had, but I am very convinced that it is due to my hypothyroid that needs to be adjusted.
  16. I had my first whole banana after 2 days on the intro diet. THings went well. No gas or any other flare ups, so I guess it wasn't too early for fruit?
  17. shimma- how long have you been on the SCD diet?
  18. I want to make some pecan cookies really badly.... I just need a little dessert break, but I am relatively new to the diet, so I don't know when to start integrating the "good" stuff in.
  19. Judy 05--- Where are you going to start and when are you going to introduce brick cheese into diet? I don't have 'D' either, so just wondering how you will treat it. Thanks.
  20. On the SCD, is jarred natural applesauce legal? I thought so at first, but now I am thinking not because of the no canned fruits thing. I had been eating a lot of it because I read a guideline that said applesauce and pearsauce should be the first things tried for fruit, but now I think they must mean homemade pear or applesauce.
  21. I don't have 'D', nor have I ever had it, so it is hard for me to judge when I should start to integrate more of anything in. This diet is known to help all kinds of intestional disorders, and if they don't have the 'D' either, I wonder how they know. Anyway, I sort of have to start over again with the intro diet. I realized that raisins, prunes, and shelled...
  22. I just got the book, breaking the vicious cycle, and I am confused as to what I should eat in the beginning. I guess I have to cook all fruits and vegetables well, but which one's should I start out with? I have been eating lots of natural applesauce and really cooked carrots and broccoli and some cheddar cheese, but I don't know what other things I am...
  23. I am definately a weight gainer.... anywhere from 6-10 lbs overnight if I accidentally become contaminated. I didn't find much help from the gluten free diet itself, so I have turned to the Specific carbohydrate diet, which is just an even more narrowed diet that is said to help repair and clean out your intestines. I have found out the bad effects of being...
  24. I am definately looking for a good gluten-free calcium supplement, especially since starting the specific carbohydrate diet, since it does not allow you to drink milk. It is a good idea to take the calcium, but like you said, who knows if it is gluten-free or not.
  25. On the SCD diet, we are allowed to have nuts in the bag or shell, but not out of the can... right? Of course, one must always check the label.
