  1. Yes there are. Some are better, some not. Before I had to obsess over my own diet, I spent a lot of time obsessing over my dogs' diets. First and foremost, do NOT buy dog food at the grocery store. Gluten aside, it's all crap (but it's generally loaded with wheat too). Natura makes a couple foods that are good. California Natural Lamb & Rice formula...
  2. Thanks Stephanie. It feels weird to be so excited about eating lunch out. I'm sorry that you have had so many troubles yourself, that is exactly what I'm afraid of. But I feel better now that I know at least one place I can walk into and order a meal without worry.
  3. Well, I did it! And I'm not dead or sick or itchy! I went to lunch with my little brother who has just returned from college. We went to a little family owned h'mong restuarant. I brought a restaurant card with me, and asked the daughter (the mom who owns the place and cooks doesn't speak any english) to help me pick something out. My food...
  4. Thanks everybody. I've tried the chili at Wendy's, but I'm trying to avoid any sources of iodized salt right now so that's temporarily out. Unfortunately we don't have any of the chains that everyone here seems to like so much. There isn't an Outback within 100 miles and I've never even heard of PF Changs. *SIGH* I'll get up the guts someday. I...
  5. My husband and I used to eat out quite often, it's something that we both really enjoy. But I'm just too scared to try it now. It seems silly, I'm a grown woman after all. My DH is just finally starting to get better, and I've been feeling so good lately. I swear, if the itch comes back I don't know if I can take it. I just can't bring myself to put my...
  6. I'm 5'3". My mom is 5'2", but all her siblings are much taller. Her sisters are/were around 5'9"-10".
  7. My husband and I were planning to go to Morocco next year. But since my diagnosis I feel really nervous about it. When I think of Moroccan food, all I come up with is cous-cous and tabouli. I know that bulgar wheat is a staple in North Africa, and I'm really worried that I won't be able to get gluten-free meals. This is really depressing to me, because I...
  8. I was in China in September, but it was pre-diagnosis. Also, we were only in Beijing so this might not even help you anyway. One thing I would suggest is finding the most western-style hotel you can. The one we stayed at included a breakfast which had plenty of fresh fruit and a chef making eggs to order (I don't recall anything being cooked in the pan...
  9. I've seen that quite a few people here are dairy free, and say that it has helped their DH. If you have gone dairy free, can you please tell me: 1) Was there another reason that you cut dairy, or was it purely to help your DH? 2) Did your doctor suggest this, or was your decision made from personal research? 3) Are you concerned about lack of...
  10. Fruit, yogurt and rice cakes for me.
  11. I forgot to add this earlier, but it's a biggie for me: NO scents or colors in your lotion, soap or laundry detergent. I don't think it has anything to do with the DH, but it really irritates my skin (even before I had DH).
  12. Have you been tested for celiac disease? You could have DH, what you described sounds similar to what I get. It starts as tiny little flesh-colored bumps that grow into blisters, then I scratch them and they turn into big raw patches that weep profusely. The itch is sometimes so unbearable that it really becomes a threat to my sanity. I don't do dishes...
  13. I was diagnosed through blood tests only. I don't know what the numbers are, but my doctor said the results were "a very strong positive". She gave me the option of an endo, but quite frankly I couldn't see the point. The only treatment is a gluten-free diet, whether I know what my intestines look like or not. Also, I feel SO much better on gluten-free diet...
  14. skbird - Just went and took the quiz from the website you posted, and it came out estrogen dominance. I had 4 checked for progesterone deficiency and 6 checked for excess estrogen, for a total of 10 on the estrogen dominance section. Thank you for posting that, and the info on chemical estrogen in products. *adding list of things to discuss with doctor...
  15. Progesterone cream? Tell me more! I've never heard of it, do you rub it on your stomach?
  16. You're killin' me with this krispykreme talk.
  17. Oh that would be GREAT if my cramps got better! It's almost debilitating for the first day.
  18. Ok, so maybe it's not just me. It seems that there have been a lot of changes in my body since I've gone gluten-free, and sometimes it's hard to tell if it's all in my head. I'm 28, and this has never happened before while I was on BC so it's weirding me out a little. And now it feels like I'm actually "starting", because I'm getting bad cramps as I sit here...
  19. Oh how odd! I get that too, but it's not itchy (or maybe I can't tell it's itchy because I have DH, which always itches). People are always asking me "What happened!?" when all I've done is itch my arm or something. I had no idea that there was a name for it.
  20. Hello all. This is a tad embarassing to ask, but here goes. Do any of you have irregular cycles, especially after going gluten-free? Before I started taking birth control (about 10 years ago) I had wildly irregular cycles, and during the last decade there have been times that I have been off BC for several months (I was trying to eliminate things that I thought...
  21. Thanks for the tips everyone. I don't want my poor husband to suffer *too* much. If left to his own devices the poor guy would be living on subway and canned tuna (he's not terribly keen on eating gluten-free foods).
  22. "When a moderator reads the post and pins it, thus certifying that it is in the right place and is appropriate (on Celiac, for example, and not an ad that should be deleted) it gets pushed to the first page with all the others. " Ooooh, ok. I guess I've just never been on a board that works like this before. Now I get it. Thanks!
  23. Mine and others. I can see the newer posts in the right hand column under "last post info" and I can see them when I click "view new posts". But I cannot see them when I look under the main heading where they are posted. Is it just me?
  24. I've been gluten-free for about 3 weeks now, and my DH has been so much worse! It may just be coincidental, because it was getting steadily worse for the several weeks before diagnosis (I've had it for almost exactly 2 years, and it seems to get randomly better and worse at times). I learned last week about iodine, so I've cut that out as best I can, and...
  25. Do you use non-gluten-free flour? I was a little worried about it "settling" around the kitchen.
