ARCHIVED Xanthan Gum, Does Anyone Get A Reaction?
frenchiemama posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wasn't sure which board this belonged on, but I assume it will be moved if I was wrong. Anyway, I've been feeling a lot better since being gluten-free but there is still *something* that is making me feel not quite right. I know that I have a problem with peanuts and whatever this is gives me the same thing I get from peanuts (indigestion, weird... -
Yep. When I first was diagnosed it was like a lightbulb went off in my head and I could look back at the past 10 years and think "THIS is why! Now it all makes sense!". It's a relief isn't it? It's terrible to have something wrong with your body and not know what it is.

ARCHIVED How Long Until You Stopped Breaking Out?
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I know how you feel Oakpointe. I was JUST getting over my breakout from eating at the restaurant, when I drank some Tropicana OJ w/calcium on saturday. BIG MISTAKE. I felt sick right away, so I knew I was glutened and then within about 12 hours the first blisters showed up and now it's getting worse. GAH! -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Have Weird Dreams
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm glad that so many people do the same thing! It's weird, I think the scariest part of the dream is the fact that I "forget" that I have celiac disease. It's not like I'm dreaming about cheating on my gluten-free diet, I just totally forget and go back to my old habits. That's why I dream about eating boring things like sandwiches and not stuff I really... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think Of Yourself As A "sick" Person?
frenchiemama posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't. Apparently everyone else does, but not me. My mom always tells me how worried she was when I was so sick before. I think to myself, "When was I sick? Sure I had this and that and the other, and then that again, and this, and more of the other, but I was never SICK." Of course, if I think about every symptom and weird illness I've had it certainly... -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You Are Also Casein Intolerant?
frenchiemama replied to julie5914's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm beginning to think that I have a problem with dairy and also egg yolks. I plan to have the york food scan done, but I can't afford it right now. -
Yes, I get that too.

ARCHIVED How Long Until You Stopped Breaking Out?
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Ah-HA! Mystery solved. Here's the story: Last week we ate at a local restaurant that we have eaten at several times before and never had a problems. When I got my food, I *thought* I saw a teeny little breadcrumb in with my meat. I poked at it, husband poked at it and he proclaimed that it was not bread but part of the meat. So I foolishly ate it.... -
ARCHIVED Marriage Trouble And Celiac
frenchiemama replied to Merika's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Good luck to you guys, I'm sure that a counselor will be able to help. It sounds like what you guys need is to communicate what you are feeling in a way that is a) more understandable to eachother and more constructive. And I'm sorry if I came off sounding too harsh before, it just annoys me when people are made to feel guilty for being sick. (That's one... -
ARCHIVED Marriage Trouble And Celiac
frenchiemama replied to Merika's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have cared for a terminally ill person. I know how it is. **This is something that I DON'T EVER TALK ABOUT. Even my friends (except one old one who where there through it) don't know. I will not be mentioning this ever, ever again** I got married when I was 20 to my HS sweetheart. It was a fairly rocky first year, and to be honest I was even considering... -
ARCHIVED Marriage Trouble And Celiac
frenchiemama replied to Merika's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know that you say in your last paragraph that he has been "super patient", but from everything you said before that he doesn't sound patient at all. He sounds selfish and self absorbed. I don't mean to be harsh, but his attitude towards you and your illness really burns my heinie. He's tired of having a sick wife? TOUGH. Does he not remember that part... -
ARCHIVED Mmmm! Really Good Snack Bars.
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got my bars today, the quinoa ones are really good! They are marked gluten-free and lactose free, but I don't know if that means dairy free or not. -
This happens to me all the time. I will dream that I forget I have celiac disease and just dig right in to a plate of pasta or a sandwich or something. Then about half way through, it suddenly dawns on me what I am doing and I am totally horrified because I know that I already ate more than enough to make myself sick and can't do anything about it. Do...

ARCHIVED Question About York Labs Food Scan
frenchiemama posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Do you have to have a food in your system, or have recently consumed a food, for it to show up in the intolerance screening? -
Not IN my ears, but I do sometimes get it on my earlobes and that little triangle thing (whatever it's called) on the front of your ear. Just wanted to add that I recently found out that I have a type of eczema on my hands as well as DH. I guess the doctors weren't ALL wrong.

frenchiemama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe everyone has heard of these already, but it's a new discovery for me: Open Original Shared Link The sesame bars w/molasses are so good! I ordered some quinoa bars too, but I haven't tried them yet. -
ARCHIVED Freeze Dried Camping Food
frenchiemama replied to Lesliean's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
RGH! I wish I had seen this 2 days ago. My dad is Outdoors Man (insert image of him on a moutain top with billowing cape) and he just left for a 10 day backpack trip with gluten-free food. I wish I could ask him what brand he got, but I do know that he does almost all of his shopping (I wish I was kidding, even his every day clothes) at REI. Check out... -
ARCHIVED Gf Travel Group?
frenchiemama replied to MelanieGF's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Has anyone actually been on a Bob and Ruth trip? I'm normally very, VERY anti group travel (my idea of hell is being herded about on a tour bus with 30 strangers talking very loudly and wearing strange hats), but I'll admit that my normal travel style (very seat-of-the-pants) has me a bit nervous. I don't know that I can afford to be really spontaneous... -
I wish I did. The only information I really have (besides reading articles online) is from people I have met with DH (a whopping 3!!) and a DH forum at Open Original Shared Link (enter at your own risk, some people don't seem very nice). One thing I have learned through asking others and personal experience is to avoid UV light exposure. I have been using...

ARCHIVED How Long Until You Stopped Breaking Out?
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Argh. Months you say? That blows. I was really liking my nice, clear, non-itchy skin. Oh well. That really makes me not want to eat out. -
ARCHIVED Familiar With These Restaurants?

And here is the response I got from the Rainforest Cafe: Dear Mrs. Carolyn ______: Thank you for the inquiry submitted to us on-line. Unfortunately at this time, the information you have requested is not available. We are however in the process of making this information accessible on our website, so continue to check back... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until You Stopped Breaking Out?
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I can't take dapsone, so my doc gave me some prednisone for the worst of the worst flare ups. It's actually written in the prednisone prescribers information that it is appropriate for DH. I only take it for about 5 days to get things under control. -
ARCHIVED How Long Until You Stopped Breaking Out?
frenchiemama posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have been gluten-free since April 21 with about 3 accidental glutenings. My skin has been really clear fo the last couple weeks since I learned to cut down iodine and stay out of the sun. Really clear, as in almost gone. Last week on Sunday I got contaminated food at a restaurant, and within about 2 days I started to break out and it just keeps getting... -
ARCHIVED At My Wit's End...and No End In Sight!
frenchiemama replied to Sonja's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't give up. Make sure that all the testing that needs to be done is done. Also, have you been tested for other food intolerances? Those can have many of the symptoms of celiac. -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Cd?
frenchiemama replied to lushgreen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
DH doesn't have to always be around joints/folds. I do have it around my joints, but I also get it on the tops (front? whatever) of my thighs and on my hips where the seams of my pants rub. I also get it around my waist also where my pants rub. I get it very badly on the backs of my hands as well, and sometimes the corners of my mouth and forehead. Anyway...
