  1. And one day I as well as my hubs will be able to say that beautiful sentence! Eatmeat.... YOU give us strength & hope.
  2. I am thoroughly enjoying reading these recipes love2. And as soon as I don't have these low iodine, low sal restrictions I'm going to go NUTS making these things & eating food with lots, & lots of flavor! Thanks Razzle for starting this thread. love2, I saw on the blooming onion thread where you said Worcestershire sauce -- the gluten...
  3. patti-ann, We DO know what it means to you & anyone else new to this....... Remember, WE were once new to this too --- each & every one of us! And there were those veterans here who helped each of us when we came on posting just like you. We do this to help new people the same way we were helped. I think most of us call this "paying it forward". And...
  4. I have found that 1/2 tsp. of baking soda in water really helps with the bloat. You may need to repeat the dose a couple times. But do not take it immediately after eating, on a full stomach. Okay for a bloated stomach but not just after eating. You take it & soon you will begin to burp or should I say belch and pass gas the other way too.
  5. And maybe your rash is still going crazy NOT b/c the corn gluten is causing a reaction with you BUT b/c you have been loading on corn & corn is high in salicylates WHICH can aggravate dh to no end! If you go read on the dh forum then you will see that MANY of us have had to go low salicylate (sals) as well as low iodine. Salicylates have caused most...
  6. Also quoting from your ref. to the Livestrong article: If you have celiac disease, your body can't safely digest gluten from wheat, rye and barley. However, the zein form of gluten in corn is safe for individuals with celiac disease. And: However, the gluten found in corn will not cause this autoimmune response and your villi remain healthy...
  7. nicaboli, you may have to go this way in your diet too. I truly hope you do not but it's entirely possible. When we have dh, anything that irritates our skin, even if it's things we had zero problems with before, can make the dh kinda go crazy or keep "burning" you see. I did not go low salicylates (sals) at first. At first I just went gluten-free & my...
  8. Andy, I'm just as southern as you & I thought I would die w/o all my old southern favorites. But you know what? It pretty much boils down to biscuits & dumplings that you will miss. AND there's hope even there. I haven't even begun to look for dumpling recipes but I have tried a few biscuit recipes & they just aren't cutting it for me. But I have...
  9. LOL! One of these days I'm going to remember everything in ONE post! You can't use any oils other than safflower & canola. Olive oil is high iodine ( & probably sals) & coconut oil is both high iodine & high sals. You are allowed to have cocoa powder like Hershey's cocoa powder. You can put some in your coffee to zap it up & give...
  10. Oh, I forgot --- add to the list: cashews & cashew butter but NOT peanuts or peanut butter sunflower seed butter egg whites I do make pancakes with gluten-free Bisquick using egg whites & low iodine milk (milk farmed locally & they hardly use any iodine when milking) but still I use 1/2 milk & 1/2 water. Golden syrup is no sals and...
  11. Geez! I'm so sorry. But it's probably both sals & iodine. I know; I'm going through it. PITA!!!!! Okay strawberries are both high iodine AND high sals. Was the salt on your burger non iodized? It should have been. Broccoli is higher on the sals list although it's not the highest but still I avoid it. Between sals & iodine the hubs &...
  12. I think none of us like our nasty rash pics no matter where they are stored. I had a major aversion to taking photos of my rash especially when it was at it's worst. Very glad you posted your photos! It will help future newbies to dh. Thank you.
  13. Thanks chill & beachbirdie!
  14. You're cracking me up!
  15. Eatmeat! I've thought about when I stop itching & changing my name. But I think I may just keep it to remind me never to get to big for my britches!
  16. Thanks everybody!!!!! Before I forget --- the doc actually said to me that the testing for celiac was so inaccurate & there is a too large % of false negatives in the celiac panel as well as a worse % for the dh biopsy. And then he went on to talk about how the endoscopy misses so many celiacs also. It was like he had been reading this board &...
  17. I second eatmeat's emotion. Please post your photos to the dh photo bank thread.
  18. Everything you have described IS consistent with celiac! Your friend doesn't know what she's talking about just like so many doctors don't know. We've had umpteen hundred overweight ppl here who have been told they can't possibly be celiac b/c celiacs are skinny. THEN we've had another umpteen hundred ppl on here who are skinny who were told they are just...
  19. I actually got an officially confirmed dx today! Something I never thought would happen until they came up with a test that did not require you to gluten yourself. I went to a very progressive & savvy NP. He listened well & was quite familiar with celiac disease and dh which really surprised me & the nurse who took my vitals beforehand was also...
  20. I read every word too. And I can't say anything tthat hasn't already been said by all of the above posters. And I agree with them 1000%! What I do want to give you is humongous ((((((HUGS)))))) So glad you are here. So glad you found out what the problem is. Now, just begin the journey to healing my dear. It WILL get better. I promise. You've taken...
  21. I hate like heck to tell you this but EVEN for the dh biopsy you MUST be eating gluten & that means you would have to start back on gluten NOW. And THAT'S also why you see so many self dx'd with dh. There are enough self dx celiac w/o dh but WITH dh is a real b%$@# (pardon my expression). Like the day I discovered what mine was --- there was NO...
  22. Well, I gotta tell ya..... dh will respond temporarily to steroids but & there's a big BUT..... it comes back with a VENGEANCE! I was misdiagnosed & put on Dexamethasone which is a super duper steroid & I've been down that road ---- not going there again.
  23. Well I get in my underarms and Pricklypear got it BAD in her pits & I mean BAD!!!!!! And there have been quite a few others on here who get them in their pits. DH can occur anywhere!
  24. Oh you poor dear! First Nicole, welcome to the board! And yes, it's perfectly fine that you posted here. From reading your post you have obviously been doing your homework --- that helps so much! And it's okay to get into your other issues here --- the more you tell us the better picture we get in order to help you. It's also okay to post those...
