ARCHIVED Negative Celiac Blood Panel Testsquirmingitch replied to yolmelee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Many people who have gone gluten free before testing find that when they try to go back to eating gluten for testing then they are unable to tolerate it long enough to do the challenge. Most find they have much stronger reactions than they had before going gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Does Dh Always Mean Celiac?squirmingitch replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I feel the same way Lolli. I count dh as both a blessing & a curse.

Hi Lolli! And welcome to the board! I have dh too. Feel free to post wherever you like but there is a dh forum too --- it is here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ it's probably better to post dh questions there. Otherwise for all other celiac issues then pick the appropriate forum & go for it. Geez,...

ARCHIVED Bad Breath, Gastritis, And Dhsquirmingitch replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I remember distinctly reading several times medical texts mentioning the bad breath thing, along with dry mouth I believe Cindy. It stuck in my mind b/c my hubs had an acquaintance who matched the description & I thought "I bet he has celiac". They mentioned it being caused by a bad gut. I'm going to say that it's going to take time for the burning...

ARCHIVED Negative For Celiac, But Positive For Dh? Possible?squirmingitch replied to lil'chefy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Good Lord! You were on Dapsone for 21 years!!!!?????!!!!!???? When you have dh the gut damage tends to be patchier b/c the damage occurs more in our skin. So we tend to more often test neg. not only on the blood panel but also on the endoscopy. Only a really super good GI would be likely to find our damage b/c he would have to hunt & hunt &...

ARCHIVED My Dh, Or So I've Been Told, But It Is "different"squirmingitch replied to Alwayssomething's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I agree with eatmeat that I wish you would post these in the dh photobank along with your comments as well as how they change & react.

ARCHIVED Negative Celiac Blood Panel Testsquirmingitch replied to yolmelee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms The medical info. I have read ranges from 2 to 3 months eating the equivalent of 3-4 slices of bread per day. HOWEVER, you had been gluten-free since Jan., that's 7 full months. That's not "the norm" so i would say IMHO, a bare minimum of 3 months & even then you may show negative. It takes time for the antibodies to build up.

ARCHIVED Negative For Celiac, But Positive For Dh? Possible?squirmingitch replied to lil'chefy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yup; it really is a great forum. So now you know don't you that if you have dh then you ARE a celiac.

ARCHIVED New To Celiac And Forumsquirmingitch replied to Burnsie's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis Also potato skins are high iodine so you need to peel them deeply. Egg yolks are high iodine but you can seperate them & eat the whites only. You should be safe with cashews & hazelnuts & cashew butter but peanut butter is iodine mostly b/c of the skins. Sunflower seed butter is okay too. Loose the iodized salt & get plain non iodized salt...

ARCHIVED My Dh, Or So I've Been Told, But It Is "different"squirmingitch replied to Alwayssomething's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I know the feeling Alwayssomething. Been there, done that with the head games. Yes, hubs & I pretty much figured the blisters are beneath the skin where you can't see them.

ARCHIVED My Dh, Or So I've Been Told, But It Is "different"squirmingitch replied to Alwayssomething's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis This is how my hubs looks except there are "bumps" all embedded in it & it gets fire engine red with the bumps getting even redder & then the bumps will get more pointed & leak & then crust & then when the crust goes that skin is cracked like your photo from the skin being so traumatized from swelling, burning, itching & stinging for...

ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!squirmingitch replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I think it's possible all 3 of you have dh but it's also possible all 3 of you have some kind of gluten related rash. Your having eczema for 40 years is telling as far as possible celiac for you goes. Tell me, when your dd was dx'd did they do a genetic test on you & your hubs or your youngest dd? The dx'd dd HAS to have gotten the gene from either you...

ARCHIVED New Question About Dh Diagnosissquirmingitch replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis You know Cindy, I was reading back on that thread of yours in May & combining that info. with the info. you've posted on this forum you really do have symptoms consistent with celiac. And I gather that you don't so much want a dx for yourself but more to be able to tell others you have a dx so they will shut their mouths. I can understand that. And while...

ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!squirmingitch replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Okay, first mikyraso, the biopsy the derm did on you will turn up negative --- well, let's say if it turns up positive then I will fall off my chair right here & now. The reason being is that the medical literature says that you MUST be actively consuming gluten EVEN for the dh biopsy PLUS even then there is a 30+% false neg, rate. And you have been gluten...

Well Richard that is a breath of fresh air to hear that! Did you ever get dh when you got contaminated? How long after you were off gluten did ALL your dh go away & stay away?

ARCHIVED New Question About Dh Diagnosissquirmingitch replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis Cindylou, You posted on the 27th of May on this thread: http://www.celiac.co...499#entry799499 if you scroll down to the 3rd response to you on that thread you will see that I DID tell you that you need to be consuming gluten even for the dh biopsy. So I guess you just didn't read it well or didn't remember. I copy & paste my reply to you from...

ARCHIVED Flour Questionssquirmingitch replied to AndreaMamie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips AndreaMamie, you state your step-dad was dx'd as having a gluten intolerance, not celiac's, just a gluten allergy that caused his dh rash. Did he get dx'd with dh? Because if he did get a dh dx then he IS celiac. DH does not occur with a gluten intolerance; only with celiac. Other skin problems may occur with a gluten intolerance but not dh. There is medical...

Ah! Ohhhhhh, you're right. My hubs was born in Ok. & his parents told him never to tell pll he was born in Ok. He was only born there b/c his father was going to law school there after getting out of the service. He graduated & they left Ok. when hubs was less than 3 weeks old. They headed straight to Fl.

Hmmmm.... might you be in Texas? My cousin lives in Texas & has told me they have the highest obesity rate in the nation. Well, it's no matter really. The important thing is that you stood up for yourself & your health & I say BULLY FOR YOU CINDYLOU!!!!!!!! I am applauding your actions of this day! Keep up the crusade. Yes, I...
