  1. This is exactly what we need ciamarie!
  2. I thought we should have a thread devoted to this subject. That way we can link to it for newbies instead of typing it all out again each & every time. I'm going to list the things I can remember people saying helped them. You all can expand on the thoughts/techniques. Hot water irritates dh so shower or bathe with the coolest water you can stand....
  3. The steroids help but the minute you go off them it's worse than ever. You have to get off them & get through the hell & then it won't be as bad. Also, the steroids will make tests negative for 2, maybe 3 months. Good luck with the new derm.
  4. Looks a lot like dh to me. I don't believe psoriasis blisters. Does yours burn or sting? Tail bone is a classic place for dh to present. You might be lucky so far in that it doesn't drive you nuts itching ---- yet. How long do the lesions usually last before they heal? Oh, gee, I see now you are dx'd celiac ---- in that case you have dh. You've been gluten...
  5. Sounds like you have your answer! Everything you've stated fits dh & therefore celiac. Welcome to the board & the club. Read on here as much as you can. That will give you the info. you need. Here are a few links to get you started: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/95643-interesting-reading-on-dh/ https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/940...
  6. It's just all in our heads right doc?
  7. And once again incompetency strikes. That's a perfect example of why there are so many self dx'd especially with dh. We are supposed to continue eating gluten & damaging our villi & bearing the burning, stinging, itching, pain of dh for YEARS trying to get someone to get all their P's & Q's right. I'm so sorry Cindylou. I know how badly...
  8. I do that twice a day.
  9. Jack, I hope you can find the culprit. BTW, I use Suave Shampoo & conditioner & it's gluten free. Crest toothpastes are gluten-free. Do you have pets? Cats or dogs need to be eating gluten-free or you can get cc'd from them. The lick their bodies with their gluteny tongues & we pet them or we kiss them. How about your medications, have you checked...
  10. At their largest the photos are only about 2" x 2" --- too small for my eyes to see them well. Good luck & we all hope you can get a solid dx answer one way or the other.
  11. Dang! I'm sure glad to know those are where the biopsies were taken. For a minute there I thought, "What the &^%$ are those?"!!!!! The photos are small & hard to see detail but it looks like it could very well be dh; especially when you say that's influenced by the prednisone. I'm going to warn you also that if you go gluten-free & then decide...
  12. My D was low at 25 with a range of 30 - 100. Iron okay.
  13. My vit D was 25 with a range of 30-100 so the doc put me on Vit D3 5,000 IU per day & I got the drops too but have been unable to tolerate them at those rates. Made me get the shaky kind of indigestion & made me nauseous. I tried 1/2 the dose & still couldn't do it. I have discovered that 1/2 dose 2 or 3 times per week is the max. I can tolerate...
  14. I have low D also kswan & have been put on high doses. I haven't been able to tolerate it. I don't have quite the problems you do but I can say without a doubt that the D gives me indigestion & I'm not talking about normal indigestion but making your body quiver, hands shake, getting nauseous kind of indigestion. I tried taking 1/2 the dosage &...
  15. I couldn't get your links to open either but the symmetrical presentation, itching like a bear & waking you at night, Hashimotos, the hysterectomy. the low Vit D all add up. Like Prickly says the steroid will put you out of a dx for a while. That means dx by blood panel, endoscopy, or dh biopsy. Most ppl with dh tend to test neg. on the celiac blood panel...
  16. I'm with you bartful! I couldn't remember who that was with the sweet potatoes. And if you want to know what they do to regular potatoes so they don't sprout in the store then just google it. OH MY!
  17. Here is a low iodine, low salicylate "white-ish" bread bun in a bowl recipe. This is my breakfast every morning. like Prickly I can't hack the egg white omelets. Shudder. 2 large egg whites 2 Tblsp. white rice flour (I use sweet wht. rice flour) 1 Tblsp. cashew flour 1 1/3 Tblsp. golden flax meal (you can use the dark flax meal it just makes it darker...
  18. Someone on here had problems with sweet potatoes & they switched to organic sweet potatoes & the problem went away! Just throwing it out there.
  19. I echo what Prickly said in this latest post Polly. Every single word. Also, I didn't mention before something that I do which REALLY makes a difference in the lesions itching but I'm rarely able to do it b/c of the way dh so often presents in the grouping pattern. If/when I'm lucky enough to only have 1 or 2 lesions in a particular place then this works...
  20. First, I would have him get a dh biopsy before going gluten-free but he has to have a derm who is very experienced in doing the dh biopsy. And IF HE is POSITIVE he would stay on the gluten-free diet w/o a dx of dh then he could go gluten-free now. Have you compared his rash to pictures of eczema? Have you looked at the photos in the dh photo bank? https...
  21. I found it interesting too that canned foods contain iodine from the cans themselves. I find that when I get iodined & the dh flares then the dh is going to go through it's cycle no matter what I do. The sores take time to heal & it doesn't seem that much can make that time any shorter. Also, while you were on vacation & even being very careful...
  22. It's possible that you could just do low iodine diet for 2 weeks & that will be enough to make it lay down for you. But you may want to use non iodized salt from here on out. And sea salt has iodine so just get the plain old non iodized salt.
  23. Are you absolutely positive you are not getting cc'd? DH is sensitive to the smallest amount of gluten. Have you checked your shampoo/conditioner for gluten-free status? Do you use any hand lotion or other products that you may get on your hands & then ingest when you eat something from your hands? How long have you been using the zinc oxide? And where...
  24. Purple ones with horns.
  25. It could be that it was dh in the first place but when you went to the ER & they drained it you got staph from the hospital. Seems like everyone who gets near a hospital these days walks away with staph. They opened you up & that can expose you to staph. So when they did the culture they came up with staph. What do you think about that scenario Prickly...
