  1. Dion Warwick sings that song. She is er... was Whitney Houston's auntie.
  2. For the low iodine diet see Open Original Shared Link For help with the itching etc.... see: http://www.celiac.co...ing-pain-of-dh/ BTW, regular calamine lotion won't do it --- see the link for the exact product. Also, make sure your shampoos, conditioners & soaps are gluten free. I use Suave Naturals shampoo & conditioner ---...
  3. LJ, I have seemed to have rash reactions to alcohol also. The only thing that didn't seem to do it to me was Moscato white wine. I drank some Vodka & got rash reaction & drank some Redbridge gluten-free beer & seemed to get rash reaction. I'm just guessing here but it may be that b/c our guts are leaky & we (with dh) tend to get that stuff...
  4. Well, I hope the steroid does the trick. I'm sure it will do something & give you some relief. BEFORE I knew this was celiac & therefore before I went gluten-free; I was put on a mega steroid called Dexamethasone & it worked great ..... as long as I was taking it, but the second I stopped the dh came roaring back worse than before. I had some...
  5. I think carageenan is what kicked off my latest bout but then it seemed to morph into a spontaneous outbreak which is STILL going on. All began on about Sept. 10th. I missed reading the carageenan on the label. Carageenan is from the sea so it might as well be seafood. Major iodine. I have been more time low iodine in my time gluten-free than not. I do...
  6. Oh Adelaide, you needed this like you needed a hole in the head. I'm sooooooo sorry! Mine runs a course of about 4-6 weeks & sometimes 8. What happens is that the first ones come & then behind them more & then more so it gets to where some are healing while others are breaking out & then there are some in between the two. It's truly a...
  7. DH. No doubt about it. The steroids are why your tests keep turning up negative. And once you go gluten-free then tests will turn up neg. Is it THAT important for you to have an "official" dx? Especially seeing as how you've seen how badly docs misdiagnose it? I'm sorry but IMHO, I do not think you will be getting completely clear of the rash without outbreaks...
  8. Aw heck. Can't you rant better than that? You're allowed to you know. I forget..... did you get an epi pen?
  9. I think you really need to give gluten free a really good, 6 month long try. I read your other thread & 2 weeks are not going to do it. Your tummy troubles won't resolve in that time either. You say you have tried gluten free before but always go off in 2 weeks. Well, maybe you weren't really even gluten free. There is a very steep learning curve to the...
  10. Oh, I understand completely. I wasn't saying you did a bad thing. Yes, stupid, stupid stuff written about dh even from some of the leading celiac centers. And contradictory! We get awfully down on derms but when you look at some of the erroneous info. out there; is it any wonder why they don't know what they are doing?
  11. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They screwed up when they wrote that! It says: When dermatitis herpetiformis is well-controlled, attempts can be made to taper off dapsone and perhaps attempt a diet with gluten. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you should NOT attempt a diet with gluten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. 2 weeks. However, it may take more than that. My dh is terribly sensitive to iodine & since going gluten-free, I have been low iodine more than I have been on iodine. Every time I go back on iodine, I do okay for about 2 weeks or maybe a month & then I flare again. I cut the iodine & things settle down again. And when I say I go back on iodine...
  13. Thanks gluten-free! I bookmarked that recipe myself! YUM! LJ, you could cook for your oldie but goodie cats. Chicken & then put it in the food processor so they can lick it up --- no teeth required. And you can always do the same with canned tuna or salmon --- just food process it till it's mush. You could do batches & then freeze the mush in appropriate...
  14. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just KNEW if I said it the fates would have to prove me wrong. As usual, every grocery day for months & months & months; I searched for plain canned pumpkin. TODAY they had it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Libby's no less. I got 2 cans. They have more unless some other soul walks in & buys...
  15. Lynr, I don't think you're crazy for being on Dapsone. I think dh has made you crazy; just like it's made me crazy & has made all of us who have it crazy! I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that last statement! So I put multiple emoticons. Let us know what happens with your blood. For your sake, I hope you can stay on it. Scratcher, Don't think...
  16. This was posted before I knew about the Mayo clinic saying it's not full of iodine.
  17. Lyn & Really Good Scratcher, Most of us with dh tend to test neg. on the celiac blood panel. The antibodies are in our skin more than regular celiacs. But some have actually tested positive on the blood panel. We also tend to have neg. on the endoscopy/biopsy b/c our villi damage tends to be patchier; again b/c the damage is more concentrated in...
  18. I have looked in our Publix as well as our Winn Dixie & they only seem to carry pumpkin pie filling not just plain canned pumpkin. I know this b/c I was looking for plain canned pumpkin to add to my dogs food. I will keep searching. I will need to sub chia seeds for eggs as I have to be low iodine. That's what appealed to me about this recipe in the...
  19. Oooooooooooooooo! I'm going to have to try this! Sounds easy & delish. I am especially happy that no liquid is needed --- that means I don't have to worry about iodine. YAY! One question ---- where the heck do you guys get pumpkin? I have NEVER found it in any of the stores either where I used to live or where I live now. I can find pumpkin pie filling...
  20. Hi gancan, Yes, it is possible these problems are resulting from celiac disease or non celiac gluten intolerance. And unfortunately, in order to be tested for celiac disease you need to be eating gluten (& that doesn't mean eat it for one day). There is no test for non celiac gluten intolerance YET. The only way to dx that is to test negative for celiac...
  21. Awwww bartful! I'm soooo sorry you're hurting again. Seems like you can't get a break for very long at one time. Everything sounds like it's so painful for you --- jaw, hands, feet. Big hugs! (((((bartful)))))) Interesting info. on the sea salt. Some time back I read that even non-iodized salt contains trace amounts of iodine --- not b/c it's added to...
  22. Actually the thyca low iodine diet says to avoid sea salt. Quote: "Iodized salt and sea salt and any foods containing iodized salt or sea salt. Non-iodized salt may be used. For example, Kosher salt is okay unless the label says that it is iodized or sea salt. The reason to avoid sea salt is that all products from the ocean tend to be high in iodine.You...
  23. I'm sorry. This happens all the time. Now what would it have hurt her to do BOTH at one time? You may not have an active lesion in 2 weeks. And it sounds like she doesn't know what she is doing.
  24. Don't be nervous but be firm. Good luck!
  25. You can buy non-iodized salt. it says on the label, "this salt does not supply iodine, a necessary nutrient".
