ARCHIVED Pickles & Iodized Salt For Those Watching Iodine Intake
squirmingitch posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I called Vlasic today about what kind of salt they use in their pickles as Vlasic is our favorite pickle maker. Well, the girl said they use iodized salt in one plant & in the other plant they do NOT use iodized salt. So you have to have all the codes on the label & jar to find out which plant the jar of pickles you are holding was made at. To us... -
ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
squirmingitch replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Katty, Myself & quite a few others get a LOT of stuff from Nuts.com. They have certified, batch tested gluten free items & we're not just talking about nuts. There are flours & candies & seeds & nuts & dried fruit & chocolate for baking or eating & more. I wouldn't get my nuts anywhere else! I have never heard of anyone having... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Opinions
squirmingitch replied to undrznith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Based on what you said happened when you went gluten-free & it's return now with take out food & Thanksgiving plus the photo; I'd say it's dh. You can't trust take out food & taking risks also with Thanksgiving. And YES! pregnancy can have an effect also. You need to be 100% gluten-free no doubts about it kind of gluten-free. DH is sensitive... -

ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
squirmingitch replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Boy Katty, you are the model spouse of a celiac! Kudos to YOU! The others were spot on with their advice. Based on your last posting I will add that gluten withdrawal can take some time & it can seem gone & then it comes back ~~~ another good days, bad days kind of thing. The first 6 months, at least, of gluten free can be wonky so just try to roll... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety And Depression
squirmingitch replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had never, ever, ever been a depressed person nor a person prone to anxiety. I had anxiety only when there was something BIG to have anxiety about such as where the next $ was coming from to buy groceries. About 8 years ago when my celiac began to manifest, even though I didn't know it, I began to get depressed & anxiety both & they just kept... -
FWIW I have only eaten out once since going gluten-free & that was before my hubs found out he had it TOO. We went to Chinese & I brought my own food, a sandwich, I ordered wine & an iced tea to drink with my sandwich. They had no problem with it & I told them in advance what I was going to do. To me, it's just not worth taking the risk. It...

ARCHIVED Yogurt...need Help, Am New At This
squirmingitch replied to musicalmummy76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yoplait says gluten free right on it --- but it's in small letters - you have to look closely. Chobani & Okios (sp?) are gluten free. -
Oh you poor, poor thing!!!!! You've got it BAD don't you? Well, I don't know really anything about the dosing of Dapsone but I would say maybe you need to talk to your doc about upping the dosage. Now, upping the dosage will not make the places heal any faster. This stuff takes it's own sweet time healing & it is vexing in the extreme. So Dapsone will...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
squirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, as co-winner of the guess what instrument contest.....let's seeeeee...... my favorite gluten-free snack.....hummmmmm..... I might have said sharp cheddar cheese but that's on my no-no list b/c of iodine which makes me want it all the more. Soft egg on gluten-free toast would not have normally been my favorite snack but since that's also on the no-no... -
ARCHIVED Iga Antibodies And Negative Test Results
squirmingitch replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
We can have other skin problems in conjunction with the dh which can make figuring things out tricky. And from my own personal experience as well as what has been related on here by others as well as medical texts--- the darn dh can take so many forms. I had blisters, blisters, blisters & the bite kind of dh ---- now I'm in a spell where I'm not getting... -
ARCHIVED Iga Antibodies And Negative Test Results
squirmingitch replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, low IgA antibodies can affect blood tests & skin biopsies. But the question is moot b/c you have been gluten free for quite some time now. Cindylou, nothing you do short of eating gluten for some time will give you any positive test results now ---- NOTHING. DH can break out at any time EVEN though you have been eating gluten free for up to 2... -

Aaaaannnnnd Another "rash Pics"
squirmingitch replied to StephieRN's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yup, between the blisters, the photos & the itching; I say it looks like dh. I hope after gluten-free they almost never or never come back for you but just remember they can. And dh is very, very sensitive to the tiniest amount of gluten. So don't take any chances. Play it really safe otherwise it may go gangbusters on you. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
squirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
 You guys are funny! But I assure you the shrooms that I have eaten have all been of the normal, what everyone eats, sold in the grocery store either fresh, canned or in jars kind of mushrooms. The kind everyone uses in spaghetti sauces or for sauteing or in soups, stuffings, or any other dish they make. I will admit I experimented with things... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
squirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Awwwww DRAT! I forgot about you & the nightshades. I have tried eggbeaters in my life ---- blech! Mushrooms ---- I discovered years ago that I am allergic or at least have a sensitivity to mushrooms. I have never, ever heard of anyone being allergic to mushrooms before. I have never been fond of them & never used them in my own cooking but would... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
squirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm okay with egg whites & soy is a no go for me. Hellman's CANOLA mayo contains no soy so you could look for that. I tried making eggless mayo 3 times & flopped. Dried beans & peas are good for you! Actually, your mixture doesn't sound bad at all. Wish I were smelling it cooking right now. -
Forgot to say I'm using Google Chrome.

From your family history as well as your own history as well as your response to gluten-free diet, it's pretty obvious you are celiac. You know, celiac as well as the dh can go into spontaneous remission especially when we are children. That's why they used to think it was a childhood disease. Steroids will help but most of us who have been on them know...

I tried it as both a member & a guest & it gave me the lockout too.

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
squirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Beans & peas gluten-free? What kind of beans & what kind of peas? I tried that Daiya cheese --- me no like But if I could have mayo with it then it might taste better. Mayo = egg yolk = iodine. Sigh. I adore mayo! And egg & potato salad. Sigh again. Oh well, this too shall pass ---- some day, somewhere over the rainbow....... I hope your little... -
I understood you. :D We have to have humor or we will lose it. Well, I am terribly sorry that you have had this since about 15 --- how old are you now? I understand about not wanting to go on gluten for further testing. DH has a way of making sure we stick to the diet --- dx or no. As for me, it looks like I'm going to be a long, long time getting the...
