ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questionssquirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Oh! And I will add a few things here. We seem to do better with safflower oil rather than canola oil. And my hubs is so paranoid about iodine that he doesn't even want a baked potato baked with the skin on so we peel them deeply & I then rub safflower oil on them & proceed to bake as a normal baked potato. It works! Instead of butter on rice or potatoes...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questionssquirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Ah, slow typist that I am; I see you answered the question about nuts before I finished. Okay, rice then: Hubs & I make a stir fry. Get saffron threads (pricey but a little goes a long way) & make saffron rice. I cut up: celery snow peas leeks cabbage chicken breast sometimes I throw in cauliflower or green beans or green peas whatever...

ARCHIVED Can You Get Dh After Going gluten-free For Two Months?squirmingitch replied to gatita's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis Awwww, sweetie, I'm sooo sorry you got got. Now that you have the rash it's going to be imperative to try to never get glutened. I know. It happens.

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questionssquirmingitch replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease No coconut oil ---- iodine. Sorry. That includes olive oil also. But if you can do cashews then you can also do cashew butter! I have cashew butter spread on either rice cakes or on bread in a bowl every morning. Here's a recipe for bun in a bowl --- I am copying & pasting with my own notes added on the ingredients. I also make a "white bread" version...

ARCHIVED Can You Get Dh After Going gluten-free For Two Months?squirmingitch replied to gatita's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis Yes. It is entirely possible to have dh outbreaks after going gluten-free. It is talked about in medical literature. Until all the IgA gets out of our skin you can have dh outbreaks EVEN if you haven't gotten glutened or cc'd. Stress can be a trigger. But the dh can break out for no discernible reason at all. You might try limiting your iodine intake...

ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms Or Something Else?squirmingitch replied to alicia534's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Well, with the milk not an issue then you just need to give it time. I'm wondering though --- you say he gets yogurt --- that is dairy & dairy can be the cause of constipation. You might want to remove the yogurt & see what happens. Have you tried giving him 1/4 tsp. of prune juice?

ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms Or Something Else?squirmingitch replied to alicia534's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Also 2 weeks is probably not enough time for everything to resolve. Shroomie is right about the milkl. But I imagine the same thing we say to adults would apply to kids. There will be ups & downs with his symptoms & you have to give it time --- at least a good 6 months. No one can say exactly how long it will take because everyone is an individual...

ARCHIVED How Much Gluten, For How Long, Must You Eat Before Testing?squirmingitch replied to tom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms It relates to the OP's question: "Does anyone know if 4 weeks of eating gluten light would lead to a false negative on biopsy?" Read that last word ------ BIOPSY.

ARCHIVED How Much Gluten, For How Long, Must You Eat Before Testing?squirmingitch replied to tom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Oh but Tom, it clears it up very nicely for me. It states in essence that we are all individuals & we all have varying degrees of damage or not at any given time & that depending on our individual circumstances we may or may not show villi damage over a wide range of time. I fail to see what your statement "Did the best current celiac blood tests...

ARCHIVED Gluten Challengesquirmingitch replied to Blevois's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms THANK YOU IH for that MOST informative information & the link to the article!!!!!!!! This should clear up a lot of confusion on the subject. This strengthens my opinion that one wants the VERY BEST chance at getting a positive biopsy. And since individuals vary so widely it would be, in my opinion, IMPERATIVE that they stay on gluten just as long as they...

Does it matter as to the length of time the...

ARCHIVED New To Celiac Disease And Scaredsquirmingitch replied to copgirl125's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease When was the last time you came home from the grocery store with ONLY whole foods? It's actually cheaper than "the old" way of shopping. Cheaper by a LOT! Go to the store & rediscover food! Go through the produce section & really look at all those fruits & veggies you have been whizzing past for years & years. Apples, pears, oranges, tangerines...

You are very fortunate with that PCP ---- certainly not the norm as the numbers bear out. It's always good to hear there are a few good docs out there.

If derms want to say scabies then make them PROVE it by doing a skin scrape. They always want proof of everything --- let's make THEM prove something. They work for US not the other way around.
