  1. YAY! Hope is good. Sounds like you're on the mend.
  2. Jane is right -- most derms don't know diddly squat about dh. I will add that the biopsy has to be taken from a CLEAR area adjacent to an ACTIVE lesion. Yes, in all probability you are too late to get a biopsy. As to why if the antibodies are still active in our skin for sooooo long & we still keep breaking out; we won't test positive on the biopsy I...
  3. I'm sorry. But is there any doubt in your mind? That's a rhetorical question.
  4. I agree. Just have your GI do it.
  5. I'm so sorry Prickly. UGH! A bug! My iron is okay so I can't speak for those but my D is low so the doc wanted me to take mega doses. I can't do it. Not at that high of a dose. Gives me indigestion like you've never heard of so i had to cut back on it. I am taking a gluten-free liquid & I've experimented & am sure that's what was doing it. So I...
  6. Hi birdie, it doesn't sound much like dh. There's a chance it's pre-dh but really it sounds more like something else --- I don't know what but it isn't really ringing any bells for dh at this time.
  7. And even if iodine is an issue for her & she goes low iodine there is still the fact that it can take 2 years (or - & I hate to say it - more) for the IgA to get out of our skin. People with dh can have outbreaks at any time regardless of what they are or aren't eating until the IgA gets out of our skin. Not a pretty thought & one that none of...
  8. I might add that one of our posters --- itchy --- says they kept a log & it seemed that iodine never had any effect whatsoever good or bad on the dh. Just putting that in there for what it's worth. I'm sure at some point itchy will be on to tell you. 3 years now for itchy & last I recall a month or two ago said just had a little bit that comes in...
  9. "Iodized salt; sea salt in any form such as: onion, celery, garlic and seasoned salt; and kelp (seaweed). Avoid any food containing iodates, iodides, align, a1ginates, carrageen, and agar." The above quote from one of the links I posted earlier. Kelp, seaweed & carageen all are basically kelp from the sea. Carageen is in LOTS of stuff. It acts as...
  10. Yes, the biopsy on or recently having quit steriods will be the same as blood work/endoscopy.
  11. Thanks Prickly. This is the most miserable I've been since April 2011 before gluten-free when I had the mother of all outbreaks. BUT, I can say LESSON LEARNED!!!! Never again! I'm sorry you got got too. Yes, this stuff can be danged hard to figure out exactly why one is breaking out. I am thankful that we have a gluten-free household & only...
  12. See how slow a typist I am? Pricklypear has already answered.
  13. UGH! Iodine is a b%$@#! For me & for many others. I'm 9 1/2 months in gluten-free & have been low iodine for months now. About 10 days ago decided to have some certified gluten-free cookies & a few things --- not much mind you but just enough to salve not having had those things in many, many months. I did good making sure all was certified gluten...
  14. But ppl with dh often test neg. on the celiac blood panel --- add to that the steroids...... But I am happy as heck that the doc looked & WOW! he actually recognized it. Why didn't he do a skin biopsy? A positive skin biopsy of dh IS a dx of celiac.
  15. Yes, & I wonder if the sun thing is not due necessarily to the sun itself but due to us getting heated by the sun. Sorta makes it hard to get our Vit D from the sun.
  16. That sounds like a pretty plausible theory.
  17. Yes, Cindy, this is rather common with dh. People report that if they get a cut or scrape or burn or any damage to the skin they often get a dh outbreak there. We don't know why & I have never seen it documented in any medical literature on dh but it's been reported enough on this site by enough dh'ers that we know it's true & quite apparently common...
  18. I was born before treatment too. They had another doc standing by ready to do an immediate transfusion if needed. I was the 3rd kid which was a big no - no at that time. But thankfully the transfusion wasn't needed.
  19. I am just wondering who of us with dh has the RH factor in our blood. I do; I am RH neg. as was my mom who had dh (now I know it was dh). I'm just wondering & curious about whether that has any effect on how we react to iodine or salicylates affecting our dh. I seem to still remain unbelievably sensitive to iodine after 9 1/2 months gluten-free &...
  20. If you like onions here's a nifty idea. Hubs & I LOVE them this way. When you're doing all that other stuff in the oven just take a small piece of tin foil & put it in the oven & take a couple of yellow onions & throw them on the foil. Don't skin them or anything. Just let them cook. Don't wrap them in the foil just let their skins BE the...
  21. But I would make sure your GI tells the ped exactly which tests to order. Since the ped has refused to test them then it stands to reason that he won't know what the full celiac panel consists of.
  22. What about calling your gastro & telling him the ped refuses to test your boys as he (the gastro) advised. Ask the gastro if he will test the boys. it's only a blood test --- no biggie for a blood draw --- it's not like only peds can draw blood from kids.
  23. Cindylou --- you need to put this one in the "Stupid stuff doctors say" thread: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/89599-we-need-to-start-a-thread-on-stupid-stuff-doctors-say/page__st__165
  24. We know because we live with it. Too bad we can't sentence doctors to a year of living with it. They'd learn how to listen to their patients real quick!
  25. Help for the itch, sting, burn & pain of dh:
