  1. I totally understand. We had people over Saturday night and I was putting out crackers and cheese for them. Automatically I went to reach for a cracker to pop in my mouth. I "came to" before I actually grabbed it, but I just started laughing.
  2. I definitely think there is a mental component to get over that is similar to a grieving process. I agree with the above person who said they aren't tempted because of how sick they get, but that doesn't mean I don't get sad or miss the things I can no longer have. Yes, there are similar things, but no one can make me gluten-free baklava just like my Greek...
  3. It stinks that you got sick, but you just can't assume anymore. I did the same thing at Thanksgiving and paid the price. The relative who hosted Thanksgiving was really good about telling me what ingredients made up each dish. So, I was loading my plate up (and my mouth) with sweet potatoes. I got to literally my last bite and saw sitting in the middle of...
  4. I am the opposite. My anxiety has actually improved since ditching gluten. Is it a general anxiety or about a specific issue?
  5. I am sorry, but she sounds mentally ill. I second giving their doctor a call.
  6. I'm back in college and one of my teachers bought the class pizza on our last day. She said to me, "Have some pizza." I said, "Thanks, but I am gluten intolerant." She looked at me and said, "You want a breadstick?" Me and another girl looked at each other and started cracking up. I said, "Um, thank you, no." She then turned around and said, "Wait?...
  7. I was lucky that my husband is really supportive. I think he saw how sick I was and it scared him a little. He's seen such a huge change in me for the better that he is quite a cheerleader for me. He's willing to go out of his way to help me find things I can eat. The only thing is he's said a couple of times, "Well, when you are all healed up, we can...
  8. I had a similar experience. I've had GI pain off and on since I was about 7 (I'm 36). For whatever reason it would wax and wane. But last February I started having pain under the left side of my ribcage. I blamed EVERYTHING else for it except for my colon and diet (in retrospect the most hilarious was the underwire of my bra). But it was never severe enough...
  9. Sure! Open Original Shared Link He's got a great post up today about the changes that wheat has gone through over the centuries.
  10. I recently listened to the Wheat Belly book on audible. It's really great. Just having all the facts laid out about how wheat had been so genetically modified from it's original state should be enough to scare off most people from wheat. The author has a blog that he is really involved in, too. Since cutting out gluten and getting some of my issues under...
  11. I normally lurk here, but I wanted to chime in with agreement. I've been gluten-free for about a month and had I not been in pain and so completely miserable, there is no way I would have stuck to it even this long. To be perfectly blunt, it sucks. It sucks to be the one who can't just grab a sandwich or wrap on the run. It sucks to have to read every single...
