ARCHIVED New Here With Questions
Jnkmnky replied to oliviasmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't get the enerG bread. Gross. We like Kinnikinnick Tapioca breads, but my 7 year old son prefers the Black China Rice by Foods for Life. It's very moist. We keep our breads frozen, of course, but don't fully toast them. Just heat them on number 2 to let the ice melt and soften up the bread. I know it's stickier that way and can get a little gross... -
ARCHIVED Best Cake Ever
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Wholefoods near me is selling a "Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Cake" made by the Sugar Plum Fairy baking company. Words cannot describe how delicious this cake is. I'm having a piece right now. I wish you all could join me. -
ARCHIVED Mac & Cheese Sauce Ingredients
Jnkmnky replied to karenwinslow1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Annie's is tasty enough, but pricey. We use the mega-healthy Velveeta on Tinkyada shells recipe. Add a little milk when mixing. Kids love it. Moms .... -
ARCHIVED Back To The Coke Debate....
Jnkmnky replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, once again a whole new world of gluten-free awaits my son. In less than a week I've learned that Fruity Pebbles are gluten-free, Cocoa Pebbles are gluten-free, and all of those foods with Modified Food Starch **may be gluten free. Do you realize how many food doors were just opened!! I feel like a 'virgin' all over again. I'm going shopping! -
ARCHIVED Daugher Is Sick, Any Ideas?
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
"Not playing, talking or eating", eh? Sounds like my son before he was diagnosed. My best advice for you would be to bring her diet down to the simplest level you can for a good week. Clean simple proteins- eggs, boiled chicken, naked meats cooked in a separate pan. Crackers and the like ONLY from gluten free specialty companies. Fresh fruits and vegetables... -
ARCHIVED Back To The Coke Debate....
Jnkmnky replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought all "modified food starch" meant gluten. I've just flat out had that one line of thinking for 4 years. So, each and every time I see Modified food starch, it could be Gluten Free?? Is this true? Sorry if I seem dense. I'm still recovering from the whole "Fruity Pebbles is gluten free" incident. -
ARCHIVED Back To The Coke Debate....
Jnkmnky replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There's Modified food starch in Kirkland brand orange soda. Kirkland is from the Costco store. I called them about this a few months ago and they were very nice, said they wanted to triple check, called me back the following day and assured me that even though there was modified food starch in the orange soda, it was still gluten free. I thought modified... -

Ok. Seriously. You should not ingest ANYTHING from a Dollar General store. -
Get some gluten-free bbq sauce and dip regular fritos in the bbq sauce. Maybe you can even get fancy and smear bbq sauce on the fritos and BAKE them in the oven to really get the sauce to sink in. Maybe you would need to broil them. I don't know. I'm a terrible cook. You could try it and let us know. Keep busy, girlfriend. Find new foods to replace...

ARCHIVED I Need A Crash Course In Fibromyalgia.....
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been chatty with an elderly lady who lives near me. She's shown a real interest in my son's Celiac and has numerous health issues of her own that prompted this interest. Here's what I understand: She has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and says it's like fibromyalgia. I know nothing of either. I tried to do a crash course on the internet and searched... -
Sex: Male Age: 7 Date started diet: August 01 No lingering problems with digestion/bowels/gastro, etc... Delays in speech, fine/gross motor skills. Difficulty recalling info and words in general *speech therapist says may be due to late speech*, small stature, repeating a grade in school due in large part to delays in speech and that foggy mental...

ARCHIVED Low Gluten Hosts...yea Or Nay?
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son will begin CRE in the fall. I have awhile before we get to the whole Communion controvery/low gluten hosts/alcohol in wine/low alcohol wine... So, I'm just beginning to consider all the aspects of this event. Does anyone have any experience actually eating the low gluten hosts? Did you get sick? I did some research last week and printed... -
ARCHIVED Someone Please Clarify For Me
Jnkmnky replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well, I'm shocked! Laundry be damned....every child should experience the sugary goodness of Fruity Pebbles. And I'm going to get a bag of marshmallows and make rice crispy treats, too! I hope the 'sugar police' aren't patroling these boards! -
ARCHIVED Someone Please Clarify For Me
Jnkmnky replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Richard, I used to buy my son Corn Pops, but they changed the ingredients to include wheat. My kid would flip if he could have Fruity Pebbles. I just may have to make a run to the store today. -
Matilda, My son is 7 and gluten-free since 3. I went gluten-free for 4 months and had the same problem. I'm currently eating gluten again, but I have an appt for myself and my two other children to find out once and for all if we're celiacs. My son will tolerate a lot because he began so young, but for me at 36...that's another story. I missed...

I have a question. I keep seeing Malt o Meal as a cereal people here are eating...as well as Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles. I'm probably brainwashed from an experience years ago, but I always thought those were gluten full. Did something change? Or did I read the boxes incorrectly 4 years ago? Malt= gluten, right? I don't want to take a trip to...

Debbie, I used to get Foods by George products in Va at my local healthfood store. I've since moved. As soon as I moved, I contacted George's because I couldn't buy from their website. The good folks at George's wrote me an email telling me that their products would be available on-line beginning in June. I also contacted my local WholeFoods and they...

Joanie, Hot dogs are usually gluten free. Just check, of course. We usually bring corn tortillas to the movies so that my son can wrap his dog in a tortilla. You mentioned there might be a corn problem? I send my son to school with a hot dog chopped up in a thermos full of baked beans. Bring a thermos full of baked beans to the next bbq you go to...

Why do all the members of the family have to eat gluten free foods? You only mentioned that your daughter was diagnosed with Celiac. You shouldn't assume every member of your family has Celiac. Our family of 5 has one member with Celiac. He's a 7 year old with an official diagnosis since the age of 3. I keep all of his food in a separate pantry....

Darn! I forgot to add 1/4 cup Chicken flavored broth by Pacific foods!! Add that to the recipe for stuffing.

I want to share a delicious gluten-free recipe for stuffing. 4 crumbled gluten-free corn muffins (Foods by George brand) (they are soooo good) 4 slices of ripped up Raisin Pecan bread ( Foods for Life brand) 1 sm onion 2 stalks celery chopped 2 Tbsp melted butter salt and pepper to taste optional* chopped craisins/nuts I bake this in a dish...

We go out to eat all the time. I love the opportunity to explain Celiac to others. I've NEVER had a rude waitperson. Never. We go out at least 2x a week. I don't sweat any details because if I feel the restaurant isn't going to have a safe meal on the menu, I prepare my son's food at home and bring it. I've never had a rude waitperson. I've traveled...

I hope I spelled that correctly. I was diagnosed with "endo" last year. I went gluten free because I'd read it might help and my son has celiac disease......I haven't been tested, yet. Anyway, I was in agony for about a year with the endo. and I've got to say, I didn't expect much relief from a gluten-free diet. However, the very next month I was pain...

ARCHIVED Tinkyada
Jnkmnky replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just want to add that Tinkyada IS the best gluten-free pasta out there that we know of. My 7 year old eats " noodles and sauce " at least 5 times a week. It packs well in a hot food container for his school lunch. I tried that with one of the other brands of gluten-free pastas and the stuff was absolute mush by the time he had it at lunch. Tinkyada... -
ARCHIVED Cereal Anyone?
Jnkmnky replied to relkins's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 7 year old son likes the "Black China Rice" bread from Foods for Life. Also, the white tapioca bread by Kinnikinnick is pretty darn good. You can order these breads on line. We bulk order and keep the freezer stocked. That saves on shipping. Plus, I find that the Kinnikinnick brands cost less on-line. When I purchase the products my son likes from...
