  1. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12&sid=91hH9H1F70EKCYH-51105175115.88 This link should take you to the safe and forbidden list. When I was new, I printed it twice, stapled it together, kept one at home and one in my purse. Eventually, I needed only one at home. It's indispensible. The safe and forbidden list should answer all your...
  2. Eventually, someone will google a link that she can claim was the catalyst for her question. Of course, that link won't be the one, but someone will eventually stumble across one. On another note, that study was small! They need to do a much larger study to really rule out a link.
  3. I know what I posted, so I'll pass on the suggestion to reread them. When someone pointed out a web site showing her a connection between autism and Celiac, she posted what she really wanted to know. You've decided to befriend her and deflect my posts on her behalf. Good for you. You can be her hero. I'm not changing my opinion about her, her question...
  4. Open Original Shared Link I was looking into the problems with Dairy...going to go dairy free here beginning today, when I came across this recipe section. This site has some interesting points against consuming dairy. Gross, but interesting.
  5. celiac3270-- Thanks! I laugh every time I see it.
  6. You're friend is a numbskull. Cherrios are NOT NOT NOT gluten free.
  7. Laura, Your quote from Danna Korn's book doesn't make Piper's point. I too, have seen celiac disease and autism mentioned in the same sentence. What you posted doesn't suggest that a celiac disease parent has an increased chance of bearing autistic children. And I'd wager Danna Korn wasn't the source Piper won't name.
  8. I get the "see I'm not crazy" benefit. But I feel that a bit of 'it ain't so bad' would balance the sentiments expressed in the article.
  9. I'm pretty sure if you have celiac disease, you won't be able to be in the military. Even in Canada...but I could be wrong. Trust me...there are worse things in life than having your plans altered. You could be just beginning a whole new, unexpected course in your life. Maybe you DO have celiac disease. Maybe you don't. In any case, it's kind of exciting...
  10. Piper, How can you be married to a man with celiac disease and 'know nothing' about it? Give me a break. Asking you to list your sources isn't insulting you. If you have a question, ask away. But don't try to legitimize some supposed connection between celiac disease and autism with empty phrases like 'I've heard' and 'media misconceptions' as if you...
  11. "mis-conceptions that people who do not have Celiac are getting fed from the media." "I only posted this question as this is what I have heard. " "can't find any information that shows that if a parent has Celiac they can have a high chance of having an autisic child. So sorry if I have rambled, but I heard that this was possible... " If she's...

    ARCHIVED Awareness

I had to educate the nurse at my drs today. She was taking blood from me and two of my kids for the Prometheus Labs celiac disease kit. It's so disheartening to be in a medical environment and have the professionals not know what you're telling them.
  13. Oh Piper--- I'd also like to see all this misinformation the media's been feeding you. Do you have a link to any of the misinformation you've seen in the media? Specifically the whole celiac disease=autistic kids link??? You know, big vague statements with nothing to back them up serve as MISINFORMATION.
  14. You've heard that people with celiac disease have a higher incidence of having autistic kids? Where? Who told you this? A doctor? Where's a study indicating any research about this particular link between celiac disease and autism. - The study trying to see if celiac disease is a cause of, or increases the risk of developing autism- Post a link. I'd...
  15. I wouldn't take them. I had the same problem with children's vitamins. There are vitamins out there that ARE gluten free. You don't need One a Day...especially if they're being vague. I'd let them know this too. Maybe they'll figure out a way to be more careful with their "suppliers". It's such a cop-out to blame the suppliers.
  16. I've only heard that a gluten free diet can soften the severity of some of the autistic symptoms. I've looked into it a bit for a friend. What I read suggested that a gluten free diet reduces the amount of peptides that are released into the blood. Apparently these peptides affect the brain when they cross the Brain/blood barrier. (Hopefully, I actually...
  17. I feel that negative publicity about celiac disease could cause people to put off being tested. Who wants to find out they have an awful, life-altering disease?
  18. Open Original Shared Link Hmmm, seems a few clicks of the mouse and I've answered my own question! I do believe this is the definitive answer. Someone let me know if I'm reading the info wrong.
  19. Glad to hear Prometheus is the recommended test in the U.S. I and my two other children had our blood drawn today! I just put in a call to my dr because she and the nurse were confused as we were leaving. They thought I was supposed to take the kits with me and deliver them to the lab myself. Now I'm afraid they're going to screw it all up. I've been...
  20. I'm American, but your post got me wondering....Can you be in the U.S. military if you are known to have celiac disease? I would think not, but does anyone know for a fact? As to your post- you should get tested for celiac disease. No one here can give you an official diagnosis but yes, you do present with some symptoms that should raise a cautionary...
  21. Foods by George makes a blueberry muffin that's good....toasted, of course.
  22. Corn tortillas are cheap and come in a bag of a million or so . They can be used for egg burritos in the morning rather than buying expensive loaves of gluten-free bread. Make quesadillas with cheese and meat or lunch meat roll ups. My son loves bacon, egg and cheese burritos in the morning. Someone here posted that if you heat each side of a corn torilla...
  23. Open Original Shared Link I've seen some helpful info here.
  24. Ok. Thanks for the triple verifying of MFS and kraft products for me. I'm totally brainwashed to believe that all mfs = gluten. This is a tough one to get over for me. I'll buy the kraft....then I'll CALL them (just to make sure) no offense!! I have enough 'mother guilt'. I'm trying to avoid more!
  25. Can someone tell me which bbq sauce in a regular store is gluten-free? I read a bunch of bottles today because I couldn't recall which brand I got last time. I looked at kraft because everyone has said that kraft reveals all gluten. Ok. But it said modified food starch...I know, I know, MFS is safe from kraft if it doesn't say a gluteny word after it...
