  1. We eat a lot of sugary foods. We have both pebbles in the house and a bag of marshmallows. We made fruity pebble rice crispy treats and ate them straight out of the bowl..we didn't get to the spreading them on a cookie sheet part. I got the cinnamon chebe bread mix in the mail the other day and made cinnamon buns today. We put gobs of frosting on them...
  2. mmmmmmmmm Funky fruity super sweetness....
  3. This is a great opportunity for you to draw some lines that no one can cross. If there's no pancake mix left but your gluten-free mix, then no one can use it. Plain and simple. That's not a hard rule to follow. gluten-free is off limits to those members of the family that don't require it for daily sustenence. Period. Another thing. You are worth...
  4. You're so funny.... "In my defense" You can like whatever you want! I only posted about the Larabars because they looked so good, packaged nicely and looked convenient for my 7 year olds on-the-go summer food stash. But they're imo simply horrible. And gluten-free food ain't cheap. This has happened before with us where I purchase an item that's gluten...
  5. Hmmm. I don't really like the negative aspect of that slogan. The goal, in my opinion, is to catch the disease early in life...speaking of children here, and since it's a lifelong condition, I'd prefer a positive approach. I prefer the "No grain, no pain" slogan as well as the "silly Yak" slogan. Since so many people are unaware of Celiac disease, this...
  6. Larabars are gross. They even smell bad. I'm a little sick of some of these companies that produce "healthy food" and capitalize on the gluten-free status of it. Larabars real market is people with extreme ideas on healthy food, not interested in taste whatsoever. So what if it happens to be gluten-free? It's not like people who just found out they have...
  7. Awesome job. Let's have more of these posts!!
  8. Someone should email Buca's to tell them they could use Tinkyada pastas to begin a Gluten Free menu of their very own. How hard could that be for them? If everyone here and on all the other gluten-free boards emailed them, they might consider being a leader in that respect. I'm going to email them now. We're not going to get anywhere asking each other...
  9. Most restaurants are very accommodating to the special dietary needs out there. You need to ask for your food to be prepared separately, perhaps wrapped in tinfoil and unseasoned, and nicely stress the importance of your request. I enjoy going out to eat and use the opportunities to spread the word about Celiac Disease. I like to ask if they have a gluten...
  10. We've eaten there. They were very nice and prepared our son a seasoned free meal. Lots of steamed veggies, a bunless burger. Nice, nice, nice folks worked at our local Crabshack. Actually, it's my opinion that a person with Celiac can assume they can eat just about anywhere (excluding fast food joints), because there's a great effort on the part of...
  11. Does Graves follow a steady progression of worsening? Or does a gluten free diet stop the progression? I can't even wrap my mind around all the women I know who have been treated for hypothyroidism! When a person says they have hypothyroidism, are they really saying they have Graves Disease? I just thought of my cousin who has been treated for this for...
  12. Kaiti, is Graves disease associated with Celiac disease?
  13. Fruity Pebbles are gluten-free, too! I learned that here. We eat a lot of Envirokidz cereals including, Koala Crisp, Panda Puffs, Amazon Flakes, and Gorilla Munch.
  14. Is breastfeeding out of the question? From all indications, breastfeeding prevents or at least lessens the chances your child will develop a variety of health issues in the future. I'm not a militant breastfeeding type. Don't take this post that way.
  15. Oh boy. I'm attempting to wade through the Dangerous Grains and China Study books all at once! I'm going to pencil in Lglutamine for JULY!! I'm very appreciative for all the info you've posted. You should write your own book! You're very knowledgable on a variety of topics I'm currently looking into. When I see your posts, I don't always respond...
  16. Well, how do you feel about these results? Are you concerned that questions might not be answered in regards to your overall health? Are you relieved? Do you have some concern that the results are wrong? Or do you feel that the results make sense for other reasons?
  17. Well, I've finally ordered, received, baked and eaten Chebe bread. I don't have Celiac, my son does, but I taste all the foods to make sure it's acceptable. Can I just assure all those who are skeptical...Chebe bread is fantastic. Why don't they make EVERYTHING out of Chebe bread? What's the point in eating anything BUT Chebe bread??? I was still chewing...
  18. I realize other branches of the Christian faith view the communion host and wine as a symbol of the body and blood of Christ. Catholics believe that the host and the wine actually DO become the body and blood of Christ. SOOOOO, I am Catholic and I DO believe that the communion host and wine are transformed into the actual body and blood of Jesus (a little...
  19. Just want to say....without wanting to start any awkward controvery.... , that Catholics actually do believe that the bread and wine do, infact, become the body and blood of Jesus. I know, I know...then why does the gluten matter...It's all part of the "mystery", I guess! In my experience, God's shown himself to be a rather ironic and humorous entitiy...
  20. Thanks! This is what I told a group of moms just the other day when we were discussing communion. Now I can print out what you took the time to post!
  21. The "fairy dust" comment had me rolling.
  22. I didn't care if I had a picture on my posts until I saw SpongeBob. I'm jealous. <
  23. I don't usually cook, but when I actually make a cake I use the gluten-free Pantry chocolate truffle brownie mix. I put one cup of cherry yogurt in along with the ingredients called for. The hint of cherry taste is really nice. You can use any fruit yogurt you prefer. I like the brownie mix as a cake because it's more dense than the cake mixes. Plus...
  24. My son drank the chocolate flavored silk until he was healed. I figured with all the things he couldn't have, why NOT let him have chocolate "milk"?! Just keep it upbeat. You don't want to pass disappointments on to a child who will be living with this disease their whole life. It's a tricky balance for a parent.
  25. Aren't we all better off not eating that fast food crap anyway?! Count not being able to sustain your life from the menu at Del Taco as a blessing in disguise! Make your own tacos at home. We pour Old El Paso Mild flavored taco sauce on our ground beef. It's waaay better than anything gluten full on Del's menu. Look for the silver lining in some of...
