I bought the new Fitness magazine because someone here posted that it contained an article about celiac disease. It did-- I had a problem with how negative the article ended. The woman whines that she can't go out to eat among other complaints. Yes, she's happy that her symptoms are lessened, but you're left feeling that her life is barely worth living...

Well, I'll keep it up for awhile! I've got an aresenal of avatars in my photo folder now. I love figuring stuff out!!

ARCHIVED Food Banned From The Classroom? Yipee! Lol
Jnkmnky replied to celiac3270's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'd love the handbook they create so that I can pass it along at my son's school. I know our school is concienctious *sp about foods. We have a no peanut table marked in the cafeteria. Our wonderful lunch lady used to pass out starburst, but when it was pointed out that a diabetic child had moved into the school, she bought an apple corer and went from... -
Oh, so now my new avatar is on every post I've ever written? This avatar isn't special to me, I went to one site, picked the first one that made me laugh and tried to put it up....I didn't expect it to pop up on all my posts and be my "signature" avatar. Well, I'm off to find a more mature one. But I did think this one was funny.

There's nothing to read here...I'm checking to see if my avatar is working...

Somewhere around here is an ongoing saga concerning this author and her book. Only say nice things about her book or she'll sue you too.

When my son was an infant the reflux was wicked. He was on "baby zantac". Neither of my other children had reflux.

Chebe bread can be bought at the gluten free mall (link at celiac.com) or from www.chebe.com Info about 'what it is' can be found at chebe.com. It tastes very good and can be used for all your bread needs. We made corndogs with it recently. I make them for bisquits with stew, pizza, sandwich rolls, garlic sticks with spaghetti (added Mozzerella cheese...

ARCHIVED Warning: The Gluten-free Bible
Jnkmnky replied to celiac3270's topic in Publications & Publicity
ok. My sister is the "smart one" in the family. She's a lawyer. I hate it when she rolls her eyes at me. She did this because I asked her if there would be any merit to a lawsuit in this situation. She said, "No". -
Well, I told you about my encounter with xanax. Any drug that can do to you what it did to me...I shudder when I recall my experience. I took 1 pill a day for two weeks. I believe that any episode of panic is scary enough to feel you NEED an anti anxiety drug-- it's such a scary experience. However, in the two years since I was prescribed xanax, I've...

ARCHIVED My Son Has Cd
Jnkmnky replied to fatherof4yearold's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
www.chebe.com or the gluten free mall. I highly recommend the original flavor and add things to it for different flavors. The garlic onion is good, too. I brushed it with butter and added garlic salt for garlic bread sticks. Soooo goooood. -
ARCHIVED Warning: The Gluten-free Bible
Jnkmnky replied to celiac3270's topic in Publications & Publicity
Ok. This is the most interesting thread here. I'm shocked at what I've been reading and I want to commend celiac3270 for his concern, his maturity, his ability to handle the response of that writer...Damn, are you sure you're only 14?? I was such a dweeb at 14. I certainly couldn't handle myself the way you do. The attitude of that author, her pompous... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed With Celiac Disease
Jnkmnky replied to sulli39's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You can go to the "site index" at the top left of this screen and click on the "safe and forbidden lists" to assist you in reading labels. This site is a wonderful, FREE resource for people newly diagnosed. You can't live on rice crackers, and you don't have to. Anyway, as a single mom working two jobs, you'll fall apart in no time trying to live off... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Cd
Jnkmnky replied to fatherof4yearold's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I want to add a few more things. You're absolutely right to be thinking along the lines of "he's going to have this his whole life". The best thing I've managed to do for my son is to give him power over this disease. He has his own gluten-free shelves, his own Pb, Jelly, mayo, butter, etc. I have a Sharpie marker and write his name on everything that... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Cd
Jnkmnky replied to fatherof4yearold's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was dx when he was 3. He's 7 now. This is as hard as it gets!!! It really does get easier! ...Until they're teenagers and they want that first sneaky sip of beer, I guess Let's just not go there for now! Have you discovered Chebe bread?? I ask because I only JUST FOUND OUT, and it's awesome! Corndogs are the new reality in our home... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kitchen Or Not?

The chocolate free kitchen comment had me rolling. Yeah, that would never happen in this house either! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kitchen Or Not?
Jnkmnky replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm surprised by how many prefer a gluten-free kitchen! But to each their own, as the saying goes. I just want to say again, for those still *considering* which way to go...It isn't difficult to have a "mixed kitchen*. I'm not one to heap on extra work for myself by any means, so I can assure you who are still considering which way to go, that a mixed... -
You should pack some gluten-free foods for your trip. I lived near there a decade ago, but I can't imagine it's changed all that much. In regular stores, you'll find all the regular foods, of course. So cheese, eggs, corn tortilla wraps *someone posted about heating tortillas with a little butter on both sides and it really softens up the tortilla and...

ARCHIVED Gf, Saltines?
Jnkmnky replied to grantschoep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Chebe bread recipe says you can flatten out the dough and make crackers..... Hmmmm. Anyone tried this? You could sprinkle some coarse salt on top prior to baking and see if it actually comes out like a saltine. Please let me know if it works! -
ARCHIVED Don't Lick Envelopes, Use A Sponge!
Jnkmnky replied to westiepaws's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You're itchy rash sounds like fifths disease. Especially the red cheeks. Just keep it in mind for the next few months. I'm still getting over it myself. Harmless in kids...rough on adults. -
Is it ok to post my attempts here? There may be a few...dozen. I didn't want to start a new topic since Tarnal had one about avatars going already.
-
Sorry. I tried to put an avatar on mine last night. When I checked it, it was tiny. Now I don't see it at all. It was there last night. It must have disapeared-that's how small it was! I'm notoriously useless with technology. My proudest moment was figuring out my IPod last week. Now I'm working on *bum-bum-bum-buuuuuum* my avatar.
-
Well, that avatar is toooo small!
-
I just want to see if I figured out how to work the avatar stuff...
