Jnkmnky replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No bagel tastes as good a New York bagel. Give that dream up NOW. Kinnikinnick has bagels that are very good for gluten free. Pizza crusts too. Still not near the same as a New York pizza. -

If you can find the strength, try lifting some light weights. Purchase small wrist weights and ankle weights that way you don't have to focus on holding onto them. If you add these to a few hours of your daily activities, you will get some exercise for your muscles without even trying all that much. Exercise and weightlifting can be a great benefit, but...

ARCHIVED Food
Jnkmnky replied to anniej55's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We get the tapioca rice bread. My kids all like it. I like it. My youngest son used to love the chocolate glazed donuts, but has recently told me his new favorite is the chocolate dipped donuts. My two older kids prefer the chocolate glazed, so it's all good. My older son likes the brown rice bread better than the white tapioca. I get the flax seed... -
ARCHIVED Good Milk Substitute For Kids?
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids like the Lundberg Farms brand called Drink Rice. They like the vanilla flavored. Mostly we've just begun drinking other things for thirst...water and some calcium added oj. We've been using the rice milk on cereal, for cooking and the daily cup of chocolate milk made with the hershey's syrup. When my kids were little, I could get them to... -
ARCHIVED Just Had A Baby And I'm Getting Tested...
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, our blood tests came back in 6 days. So you shouldn't have to wait that long for them. In the meantime, since you've taken the blood test, you can begin eating a gluten free diet right now. Have you done enough research to know how much is available to you? Do you know what foods you can eat rather than lots of rice and potatoes? You need more... -

Open Original Shared Link The Dangers of Soy Formulas Since the late 1950's, it has been known that soy formulas contain anti-thyroid agents. Infants on soy formula are particularly vulnerable to developing autoimmune thyroid disease when exposed to high exposure of isoflavones over time. The frequency of feedings with soy-based milk formulas in early... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hotdog&hamburger Buns?
Jnkmnky replied to AnnieMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We use Chebe bread (original flavor). I make the dough and roll some into a stick. Then I flatten out the stick in my hands, lay a hot dog on it, and wrap the dough around the hot dog, pinching the dough together. Then I bake the "Corn dogs" in the oven for 30 mins at 375. You could find skewers for handles on those dogs. I've tried hot dog buns from... -

ARCHIVED What Can I Bring With Me?
Jnkmnky replied to ACopsWife's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Oh, you want to bring in a cooler? Just for yourself? A personal sized bag should be enough. I can see why they wouldn't want you to bring in a cooler. Kid's lunch bags are made these days to keep food cold all day...that's a "cooler". Just smaller than the image of a traditional "cooler". You should be fine. It sounds like communication lines are... -
ARCHIVED What Can I Bring With Me?
Jnkmnky replied to ACopsWife's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
You could argue this point with 6Flags. Celiac Disease is a disability. You have rights under the laws that protect people with disabilities. If I were you, I'd call them again and explain this to them. A small lunch bag with a gluten free sandwich and a couple of gluten free snacks isn't infringing on their opportunity to run a profit making business... -

ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy
Jnkmnky replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
PFft! Mother's have enough guilt. You're doing everything you can do and then asking what more you can do. Sorry if you felt my words suggested you needed MORE! I've got three kids so it's three times the guilt. I'm more frustrated with the process and the dr. -

Jnkmnky replied to Momma Bird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go to your dr and get a blood test for Celiac Disease. Your dr works for you. This is YOUR appt. You're paying him for it. Ask for what you want and get what you want. If he wants you to do or take anything other than a blood test for celiac disease, tell him to call you at home and schedual an appt himself at his expense. A blood test for celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy
Jnkmnky replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's the thing... She has a family history of celiac disease. She has symptoms that sound like celiac disease. She tested neg, which is common for young Celiacs. Her Neg blood work didn't make the dr say she DOESN'T have celiac disease or need a biopsy. He's actually going to do the biopsy with the neg blood work. Makes it sound like even he knows... -
My Herbal Essences does not contain wheat protein. Maybe they've changed the formula? Each person has their own shampoo in our family and none have wheat. I never thought to check.

Herbal Essences contains wheat?! I mean, I use it but my kid uses something tear free, but I didn't realize this! Now I'm going to go check his shampoo!!

ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy
Jnkmnky replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Would the biopsy be affected if she went gluten free beginning today? I know my son felt better within four days of being gluten-free and he was three years old. At least she'd begin feeling better. I think if the biopsy results wouldn't be affected by a dietary change NOW, then you should consider that. How fast do vili grow anyway? -
I made pancakes with Bob's Red Mill gluten free pancake mix today. I want to say they came out very well. As fluffy as bisquick! I added apple sauce and cinnamon/sugar, and used rice milk rather than regular milk. The pancakes were not gritty as some mixes I've bought in the past are. The pancakes did not taste like corn. They were not thin and watery...

ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy
Jnkmnky replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with nini. Is the biopsy necessary for insurance reasons? Why do you feel you need it at this point? My son's dr told me the biopsy wasn't necessary DUE to the amazing results of the diet. He was three, and another thing the dr told me was that the risks of a biopsy are small, *perforated intestines was one possibility, but the risks were way...
