ARCHIVED Rice Xpress (like Uncle Ben's )
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I copied this from their website. They have a whole section dedicated to explaining celiac disease. That's unusual. We have only a few products in our entire line of 75+ products that are not gluten free, or may have ingredients that could be a problem for the very sensitive: Organic Multigrain Rice Cakes (discontinued) Exotic Wild n Mushroom... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kitchen Or Not?
Jnkmnky replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My children were about the same age as yours when we began. A little older. Anyway, we've always done it separately. My Celiac kid has his own pantry and his own shelves in the fridge. I find the cost of the gluten free food cost prohibitive to an entire family affair. I don't mind fixing two meals. The gluten free meals are small, anyway. Whatever... -

Vinegar is almost always safe. I would say always, but I think there's a history of concerns surrounding vinegar that still linger today. -
Shy is an expectations we live up, or should I say DOWN, to. You're wonderfully extroverted here. I didn't suspect you were a teenager when I began posting here. Please stop 'being' shy and depriving the real world around you of your endearing personality/humor/inteligence. I have an idea. You said you live in NY, right? Why don't you make a banner for...

Contacting ex drs is an experience. When I told my son's dr that we found out my son has celiac disease, he told me that children DON'T get celiac disease. He actually argued the point with me. He said it's an adult disorder. I was so stunned after a few minutes of our back and forth that I walked out of the room without a word. Never went back, either...

My son eats these. They make a chocolate one too. He never gets sick from them. -
I haven't read Danna Korn's books, but they're supposed to be good.

Well, I guess the title sums up my question! I've been emailing all of the network Dr's on call asking them to do a segment about Celiac Disease and was wondering why no one's interested. Sometimes I feel that posting with others affected by Celiac gives me a myopic view of the significance of this health issue. When I turn off the computer and look around...

Pam's fine, though they began making a version with flour added..so that wouldn't be fine! -

To the person who posted about using butter to soften up a corn tortilla....THANKYOU. I tried it tonight for my son's dinner and it was a huge improvement. The burrito stayed together and was softer. Much better than heated with Pam (which was how I was doing it). -
I got through my depression without meds, and I was really depressed after that last baby. For almost a year before I tried exercise. I had my hormones checked and they were "fine". PFT! I also walked a lot. Summer's good for that! But I did walk A LOT. Like Jared from Subway! I remember the day I felt the sun shining on my face and I thought...

Do you get any exercise? After my third baby, I was depressed. I began lifting weights (to prove to my sister that it wouldn't help) just five pound weights by hand and 2 pound weights on my ankles, and I was soooooooooooo out of shape due to pregnancy, that I could only manage 10 minutes of this the first day, but by the third day...I felt a little better...

ARCHIVED Chebe Bread
Jnkmnky replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No freaking way! I can't believe I missed out on that. Anymore wisdom/info/knowledge you have, I'd certainly appreciate in advance. -
Then go to Outback Steakhouse or PF Changs. They have gluten free menus. Most restaurants do NOT have gluten free menus but will do their best to make a safe meal. As of this time, I do not believe people with Celiac Disease are doing their best to make their numbers and needs known to the food industry. Knowing that Joe's does NOT have a gluten free...

ARCHIVED Chebe Bread
Jnkmnky replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had to pay shipping. Who gives free shipping? I filled in an order for tons of frozen Chebe breads, but the shipping was almost EQUAL to the cost of the bread! It was over $200 So I got mixes and paid a far more reasonable shipping charge. -
ARCHIVED I Feel Absolutely Miserable
Jnkmnky replied to Hakman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was just reading about the nausea you all are saying you're experiencing. My son was diagnosed at age three and I never hear anything from him about nausea. He's seven now. It makes me wonder if he experiences this but doesn't tell me or thinks it's normal. It's something I'll have to bring up with him. I can't think of what would make a person eating... -
Tarnalberry, Sorry, I logged off and was thinking about your passive aggressive post to me and I hopped back on to check if you're the one who was having that passive aggressive back and forth with Eloisa...and it WAS you. (I was lingering on the outskirts of that one, posting about the fact that I'd COOKED rice crispy treats with fruity pebbles.) No surprise...

Tarnalberry, You didn't get it because I was kidding and you took me seriously. You're right in that cooking is a learnable skill for everyone, though lack of interest, inability to pay attention to detail and numb taste buds may affect positive outcomes. I think riding a bike is easy enough and learnable to all, though a woman I know just can...

QUOTE "While pancakes are pretty much just as easy to cook from scratch (there's little difference in measuring out four dry ingredients as opposed to one (the mix)), you don't have to if you don't want to. There are LOTS of pancake mixes available; you just have to find one that you like." ******** Excuse me, but for those who are cooking intolerant...

We really like the "Sylvan Border Farm gluten-free products Wheat free Pancake and wafflle mix. It's a 12 oz bag. www.sylvanborderfarm.com You don't HAVE to bake and create from scratch just because you're gluten free. I don't. The idea that it's cheaper to cook with mixes doesn't apply to me because I'm not much of a cook. I burn everything....

I found this information interesting. It makes me think that one day they'll discover there's really no such thing as "IBS", that it's really just Celiac Disease. Symptoms of celiac disease can be similar to those of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and the issue often arises if patients with IBS need to be screened for celiac disease. If they are...

Plus the veins are more visible when you do sugar in getting ready for a bodybuilding show. That happens to me when I scream at my kids. Sugar or no sugar. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Help

You should have the blood work done before eliminating gluten from your diet. Try to get an appt for a blood draw on Monday morning. I've found I don't need appts for blood work, just a call ahead, and show up early in the morning. I would want the blood work done. My opinion.
