ARCHIVED Can Celiac Disease Be Related To Small Bowl Obstruction?
sharilee posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been gluten free since February 2012 after a biopsy diagnosed celiac disease. Recently, I experience stomach pain that was so intense (nothing like I had ever experienced before) and went to urgent care where they then rushed me to the emergency room and I was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of a small bowl obstruction. Reading about... -
ARCHIVED Ethical (And Legal) Question On Enterolab

How did you find out that you live in a state that requires the order be submitted through the doctor? A lot would depend on why it is illegal to do so in your state. Which would depend on your state's particular law. It may only be illegal to order it directly if you intend to use those results for submitting to insurance or something like that. But... -

ARCHIVED Little Wins That Other People Don't Get
sharilee replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It does get better with time. I have been gluten free since late February and it took about three months for things to start to return to normal. I still have problems but not every day like I was, now I will go several days with no problems. I am sorry it cost you your marriage, any type of illness can put a strain on marriage. -
ARCHIVED Little Wins That Other People Don't Get
sharilee replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The first time I had a normal bowel movement after being diagnosed with celiac I was so excited and even more excited when I went several days in a row without an attack. I wanted to throw a party. -
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid in 2004, discovered during testing for infertility. My main symptoms were dry brittle hair, dry skin and fatigue.

ARCHIVED Soy Intolerance, Questions
sharilee replied to sharilee's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thank you all for the advise and thank you for the recipe. -
I have an intolerance to soy in addition to celiac. I am giving up soy but see it is in so many foods. For those who do not eat soy do to an intolerance, do you avoid all forms of soy? Also are there any good marinades that do not contain soy? I eat a lot of chicken and frequently marinade it but all my gluten free marinades contain soy as an ingredient

ARCHIVED Anyone In Cleveland?
sharilee replied to NickMcKinnis's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome, I am in Akron. I see others have already posted the links to the Cleveland area support groups, they are great groups. -
Welcome! I was diagnosed with celiac late February 2012. It is very overwhelming at first. But it does get easier with time. When I was first diagnosed I took my list of ingredients to watch for and checked everything. Would spend a long time shopping. Now I have learned the ingredients to watch for and it is easier and quicker to read the labels. ...

I did not know that about soy. It would explain why I have so much trouble with it during PMS and my period.
-
Both PMS and my periods got worse after quitting gluten. I haven't had gluten since late February 2012. Since then my periods are heavier, PMS is worse and lasts longer. I also noticed that during my period I am unable to tolerate soy and lactose which I can tolerate when I am not having my period. My doctor said it would get better with time as my body...

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed
sharilee replied to Lana2431's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed in February and went gluten free and at first felt a lot better but then symptoms returned. I tried taking out dairy too and still had problems. I learned it could also be soy so I am taking out that now. It is not uncommon to have other food intolerances with celiac. It is pretty much a trial and error trying too take out different foods... -
I was excited to see Dominos offering gluten free pizza and then when I read the article and saw it said it would not be safe for people with celiac disease I was disappointed. I hate these pseudo gluten free menus too and all the pseudo gluten free products. People with celiac are getting lost in this gluten free fad. That is why I don't eat out, don...

ARCHIVED 4 Months And Getting Easier
sharilee replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad things are getting easier. I am approaching three months gluten free myself. I find myself eating healthier too. I still have those moments when I would do anything for a donut or chocolate cake but I have found those days are less and less each passing day. -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent, Having A Hard Time
sharilee replied to sharilee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you everyone for the support and words of encouragement. I made it through the day. It is nice to know I have a place where people understand. -
I was doing fine with all the gluten filled goodies people bring into work. But this week it is really bothering me. It is not that there are more goodies this week than any other week but I am bothered by it more. I want to literally scream to my co-workers stop talking about food all the time and the next time to have a pizza party. Today I wanted to...

ARCHIVED Heading To A New Gi Doc, Still Symptomatic.
sharilee replied to jeannieknits's topic in Doctors
Hi Natalie, Hope you get better soon! I am on day two of not eating anything with caesin, lactose, soy, etc and only naturally gluten free foods. Yesterday was terrible, one of the worse days since being diagnosed with celiac. Today still experiencing symptoms but not as severe or frequent. So hopefully that is a good sign. I told my husband last... -
ARCHIVED Heading To A New Gi Doc, Still Symptomatic.
sharilee replied to jeannieknits's topic in Doctors
Hope the doctor can give you answers. I was diagnosed myself with celiac two months ago and I am still having symptoms despite being gluten free. Next I tried eliminating lactose, still having issues. Now I am eliminating soy, caesin and eating only naturally gluten free foods. So I am hoping this works. Hang in there, hopefully soon you will have answers... -
Sorry you are having a bad day. I hope tomorrow is better. As someone else said, Reeses are gluten free but they do have other triggers in then. So something else in the Reeses could have set off the attack. I am a smoker too. Right now while I am getting a handle on the gluten free and trying to figure out what else might be causing problems, I...

ARCHIVED Need Testing Again!
sharilee replied to Rustywrench's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have never done the gluten challenge but from what I have read from others here, some have been able to do it and others have not. You need to get retested again as soon as possible. If you can't get retested soon, at least consult with a doctor and get some idea of how long you might have to have gluten for a test to be accurate. In my family, I...
