  1. So, I signed the girls up for our Natural History Museum spring break camp months ago. Here's a description: Yucky Madness: Let's go hunting for yuckies at the Museum and study the slippery, the slimy, and the messy. Explore the yuckies found in the human body and in animals. Experiment in making yucky mayhem and participate in the Great Loogie Contest...
  2. Hi there! I have one drawback I can think of: if not all family members were on gluten and tested for Celiac, it's really difficult to gluten load for an accurate Celiac panel when the house is gluten-free! Try to get really good testing behind you before your house is entirely gluten-free. Here is/was our path: We did not know/understand/research...
  3. Thank you! I love the crumb, D, etc references! I'll be able to remember better to adjust to each person!
  4. I just had two of my best girlfriends over for a glass of wine tonight and to talk about our twin girls' Celiac diagnoses and the impact. I realized I have a LOT to do to clearly communicate the gravity of the situation. These are really good girlfriends--the kind of friends that are honest, fair, but are also good, critical thinkers -- the friends that...
  5. Awesome! Thank you all! The girls had their endoscopies yesterday... My girlfriends are coming over tonight for a debrief and WINE and CHEESE and of course rice crackers! And I love blue cheese, glad to hear it's going to have a space in our gluten-free house! Momma needs some relaxing for a night!!!
  6. Hi there! No, you're not imagining things--although I would be asking myself the same thing in your shoes. Also, my DH really pushed me on my observations--he was skeptical of all that I was seeing (or maybe from his point it was imagining). So, some double-checking of thinking is healthy. I'm a newbie, so here are some of my thoughts (based on my experience...
  7. Hi All! I've just cleaned out the house...no more gluten here! I read somewhere (of course I don't remember where) that some cheeses are started with something that can have gluten in it?! Which cheeses are gluten-free? Which cheeses are not? How do I know? 1000 thanks!
  8. Thank you so much for being honest and so forthcoming about how you are feeling. You are sane and you are brave. I appreciate your post so much. I am the mother of fraternal twin girls who will likely be confirmed Celiac within a few days. I will carry your thoughts, feelings, and experiences forward with me as I help my dear little ones navigate the...
  9. Hi Carol! Oh my gosh the fridge incident!!! It's great when 3 yr olds can be "helpful"!!! Yes, God is working in your life!!! I just finished getting the girls to bed. We were at Children's Hospital LA for their endoscopies today. All in all, things went well. However, DD1 said, "This was the worst day of my life." She was very unhappy coming...
  10. Congrats! That's wonderful! Wishing you continued progress to excellent health!
  11. Hi Carol, I think you're on your way to St. Louis. Just a note to let you know I'm thinking about you and sending prayers your way!
  12. Hi there! I'm a newbie...my twin girls (fraternal--so as alike as your kiddos) will in all likelihood be confirmed celiac this week (they have high ttgs, the gene pair, plenty of symptoms--although each girl has a unique set of symptoms). My favorite book is Celiac Disease by Green--I paid extra on Amazon to get two day shipping and read it in a weekend...
  13. You all make me smile. I think I'm going to write a book called, "For the Love of Toasters" Yes, the rolling pin deserves a very very special place in the kitchen! (Or under your bed to hit intruders over the head with!).
  14. Congrats! And I'm wondering if this program is offered through the public school system. My understanding is that Celiac kids fall under ADA and that the public school cafeterias are required by law to treat our Celiac kids equally by offering safe and appropriate food. I think I read this in "Gluten Free Kids" by Danna Korn. Anyone else have more...
  15. Thinking of you. I'm a newbie--and I think it IS possible to get sick from having any gluten in the house/being around toasted bread. There is a section in the forums for people who are highly sensitive. Perhaps folks in that forum could give you additional support and insight!?! Wishing you better health!
  16. I have twin 5 year old girls who are likely to be confirmed Celiac this week. Thank goodness someone mentioned lipstick: 5 year olds have a way of going haywire with lipstick application. I've spent HOURS trying to find play makeup which is gluten free...and have now spent a CHUNK of money on adult lipstick to compensate for the fact that I'll have to...
  17. Hi Carol! Thinking of you all! And, I was thinking of you at midnight as both our girls were up crying about their achy legs. One of the girls was scratching all over. It took us about two hours to get them both back to sleep. I thought of you and knew we weren't alone! I'm soooooo ready to get gluten out of our lives! Gotta run!
  18. You all make me smile ! Thank you!
  19. Thanks Sylvia! They are 5!
  20. I really really really appreciate you all! Thank you for all your insights, sharing your stories, tolerating my questions This has to be one of the best, most helpful, kind, gentle, honest online groups I've ever encountered. The silver lining of Celiac Disease Heartfelt gratitude! And, as I discovered in my St. Patrick's Day wanderings: ...
  21. Excellent, thank you! I needed a reality check!
  22. Just to double check from a scientific standpoint, which of these statements are correct? - Using soap and water will wash away but not deactivate gluten - White vinegar will kill just the glutenin - Bleach will deactivate just the glutenin - Everclear will deactivate both the gliadin and the glutenin - Everclear will deactivate both the gliadin...
  23. Boy are people at the store going to think I have a problem...me marching out with a case of everclear!!! I'm just going to be honest, "Just going to do some sanitizing of my kitchen, you know, kill the gluten!" They're going to think I've lost it! ...and, perhaps I have! One way or another, I'm going to rid my house of that nasty protein!
  24. Thank you! I really do feel lame mourning a TOASTER, but alas, it is probably just the "release" mechanism for the stress of going gluten free! One of my girls cried too...my second daughter, my "zen" child just looked at us as if to say, "but these are just THINGS!" All in all, I'm doing ok! It sure helps to know I'm not alone Thank you!
