ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Bread?
TriticusToxicum replied to porterpotti's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't tried the Kinnickinick bread, but everyone seems to like it. My bread of choice is the Food for Life brand. It's in the frozen section of my local supermarket. They have Brown Rice Pecan as well as plain Brown Rice. I prefer the regular Brown Rice. It makes nice toast and believe it or not you can eat it without toasting! It's dense, and the slices... -
ARCHIVED Outback Dessert

I think I know what you're talking about. Their gluten-free menu is a bit confusing. ON some items there is a "gluten-free" by the menu item and on others there is not. The first time I went there and asked for the gluten-free menu I was like this is nice, but why are all these other gluten filled items on here (thinking the only gluten-free items were labelled... -

Sounds interesting. My wife is an exercise physiologist/personal trainer, so I'm curious would this VO2 max test be the "pedal and p ke" test? (she so enjoyed during her studies) Quite a lab from what I hear! Anyway I'd be happy to participate in the survey I'll email you my info. -

ARCHIVED Anybody Have Trouble With Glutino Products?
TriticusToxicum replied to I'dratherbecycling's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nope. Their bagels are the best I've found so far - BIG (normal sized) and almost normal texture. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cookies
TriticusToxicum replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to enjoy their arrowroot and "oreo" type cookies, but always seemed to suffer mild symptons afterwards. I've switched to Kinikinick oreos (Only way to make cookies'n cream Ice cream) and I've been very happy. Those "processed in a facility..." warnings always scare me- ESPECIALLY when they claim gluten-free on the front...what gives? If you're not... -

Parchment paper ROCKS! Zero clean up for cookies and no CC worry- BONUS! I have tried the Chebe Mix too, but never on my stone. It was ok. I like Chebe better as rolls - still warm and slathered with fake butter - yummmy. -

I've actually never thought of that- DUH! Being as cheap as I am I would probably convulse at the thought of "wasting" perfectly good rice flour! However, I may yet try it! -

ARCHIVED Cooking With Gluten For Others
TriticusToxicum replied to Kaycee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am the only Celiac in my home as well. My wife and daughters love pizza, and it is a tradition that Friday night is pizza night. I always buy dough at the supermarket (we live in the boonies - nobody delivers) and make the pizza from there. I found that the flour gets airbourne and into my nose/mouth from there and I suffer mild symptoms. So I now cover... -

Great advice all around. One thing I would add is that I would rent a few times prior to buying anything. They are both great "sports", but the equipment can be pricey - better to try before you buy! I know REI and EMS both rent equipment at reasonable rates. They are also usually very knowledgeable and helpful with both the equipment and where to go to try... -

ARCHIVED Canker Sore Meds
TriticusToxicum replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Zilactin-B works wonders. It's a bit pricey, but the results are worth it. It forms an artificial "scab" over the sore, allowing it to heal quicker. I find if I put it on before I go to bed the sore is much better in the A.M. - even the worst sores should clear in a few days with this stuff. Thanks, that's good advice. My in-laws have friends who own a summer home in the area so we are staying there. We'll probably make most of our meals, but it's always (or it used to be) nice to eat out while on vacation! If they sell lobster along the road count me in! (we only get zucchini and squash around here...or so it seems!) -

If anyone else is interested, I searched the web, and it brought me back here, to some old posts for support groups in the area. The first name/email id from 9/05. I have emailed her for help. The other info is from 2004, so it may be out of date, but maybe worth a try - once a Celiac always a Celiac! Cape Cod Celiac support group Margo Finnell margo... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Eats In Cape Cod?

I had a great experience at Outback Steakhouse in Bedford, NH over the weekend. It was the first time i've ever gone to a chain restaurant and ordered off the menu with any sort of confidence. The waitress was very knowledgable and helpful. I have been to Applebees and always have the same thing - Santa Fe Chicken salad, never any problems, but how many salads... -
The family and I are heading to Cape Cod in August so I am starting to scout for some dining out options. Does anybody know of anything in the general area? Thanks for the help!
