  1. In Latin... Triticus = Wheat Toxicum = Poison 'nuf said? rinne was brave enough to PM me and get me to spill the beans. My first PM! Now you all know. :-)
  2. Chinese food...General Tso's Chicken... What's that? The Chinese delivery just arrived? Oh, if you could only smell my office right now...the place reeks of chinese food... None for me...thanks Co-workers - harumpf! They did gobble up the gluten-free Namaste chocolate cake a made for a birthday party yesterday.
  3. I don't know. I'm not lucky enought to have a Whole Foods nearby. I get most of my goodies through a co-op/food buying club. Open Original Shared Link I'm not advertising for them, just throwing it out there. You can look to see if there is a group in your area and order in bulk - they have a catalogue with just about anything your heart may desire. I...
  4. Ive had Glutino Cinnamon Raisin and Plain bagels and I think they are the closest to the real deal,
  5. Glutino bagels are the closest to "real" bagels as i have found. Like everythings else, they are best toasted. Kinikinik bread is pretty good also. I've actually eaten it as a sandwich without toasting it first. I find that if you are going to make it yourself it is quicker to just use a stand mixer if you have one. The bread machine spends a lot of time...
  6. Now THOSE are some yummy looking recipes! I don't have saffron threads, do you think it would would be ok if I just shredded a $20 bill and stirred it in? Thanks for the recipe!
  7. Thanks for the info. I have tried "the recipe" and a couple of others, but I'm sure there are other yummier ways to prepare it. I figure if it's been around for a thousand years somebody must have figured out a way to cook it so it tastes good! It sure does make a difference if you forget to rinse it
  8. Now if you could only speak to my wife and convince her that there is humor to be found in the situation, (She almost set my pj's on fire once!) I could consider that donut. All kidding aside, I love her to death - she's my rock. I sometimes had to remind her, pre-diagnosis, about the "for better or worse...in sickness and in health" portion...
  9. I often contemplate cheating, then i think of the consequences - like my wife ending up in jail for murdering me - I'm gluten intolerant and she's flatulence intolerant! There's nothing like being chased around the house with a book of matches! Don't get me wrong, she's wonderful, and I'm not a pig...er but I'm sure we've all succumbed to the "urge to purge...
  10. 2 1/2 and almost 5 - they act like they have wings - flying off the furniture and all!
  11. Non illigitamus carborundum... Sage advice? Don't go! You will be missed terribly! Your posts are so informative and funny ta boot. Best wishes in whatever you decide.
  12. McDonald's artery clogging fries
  13. NY style pizza, with thin crust dripping with cheese and grease... Dunkin Donuts... Chalupas... ahything that resembles a sandwich on normal bread/bun/roll
  14. Have you done laundry lately? I know that laundry detergent will glow under a blacklight. Maybe you smeared some on you hands?
  15. Lots of things seem to makes sense now that I've "seen the light". I was anemic as a child - no chronic D or other syptoms at the time...just sickly I could clear the upstairs of my frat house just by using the bathroom (There's a feather in my cap!) The awful three day "hangovers" after a night at the bar (not binging mind you). The...
  16. Reading about Namaste's Chocolate cake (the BEST out there!) I remembered that i am making a cake for my dad's birthday this weekend. I wanted to share this recipe with you all - it's decadent! A coworker of mine brought it in around the holidays last year. Hers wasn't gluten-free so I could only drool But she said she found it at the cool whip website...
  17. I haven't had their bread yet. I can't find it locally(out here in the sticks), and I'm afraid to order a case from the co-op that I order from. I have had their bagels(plain and cinnamon raisin), and they are first rate. The are a bit denser than a "normal" bagel, but the texture is pretty close to those toxic bagels I used to enjoy so much. They are normal...
  18. I'm no expert, but I'll throw my 2 cents in anyway. Have you had any bloodwork done recently? It could be something as simple as an electrolyte imbalance. Your nervous system depends on a balance of electrolytes to function properly. If your intestines were severely damaged you may not be absorbing the vitamins and minerals that you need to maintain this...
  19. I'll second that! The worry lasted until they asked me to count back from 10...I think I got to 7... My doc was very assuring and accomodating. Definitely take a responsible individual with you - you will be super-looy when you come to. Like everyone has pointed out, I too asked questions, but couldn't remember the answers later in the day when I came out...
  20. I was just reading on her site : "A production company in Los Angeles has been asked by the Food Network to produce a show called The Power of Food. It will be a series of profiles of people whose lives have been changed by food. Has my life been changed by food? Oh yeah. And how. " So I guess this was a promo for this new show. We'll habve...
  21. So I was watching "Good Eats" the other night (that guy is too funny!) and they cut to commercial and this woman starts talking about how she is gluten free and shows here whipping up all sorts of yummies in her kitchen. Then she plugs her website: Open Original Shared Link She doesn't have a show or anything, but I thought it was really cool that the...
  22. The Gillian's crusts taste fine - typical bland rice flour. Watch your teeth on the crust that is exposed to direct heat, as it turns rock hard. The pastry under your filling will be fine, but the crimped crust can be s rude awakening!
  23. Ditto the above posts. MiDel's are super hard and I worry about CC with them. My gut always seems to object to them. The K-toos are more oreo-like without the CC worries.
  24. I had the same question about a month ago. I contacted the leader of a local support group and she provided me with a plethora of info. I'm not from the area, so I don't know if any of the places she mentions are near your destination. I'm going to the Eastham area. I'll attempt to attach a link to the post. We'll see if it works.
