ARCHIVED Need Feedback On Reactions To Gluten
Jonesy replied to Jonesy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hez, what a cute avatar! I never thought about fruit etc. being a problem, but what you point out is very enlightening. Thanks, Maryellen -
On Sept. 24 I went to the church picnic, and ate from the pot luck buffet for the 1st time since my dx 15 months ago. It was a big mistake, even tho' I chose my foods very carefully (I thought). I have had several gluten incidents over the past 15 months, but nothing severe, so that made me confident that I wouldn't get sick even if I...

ARCHIVED N.a.e.t.
Jonesy replied to StrongerToday's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Ev I love n.a.e.t. I had a practitioner when I lived in Iowa and she was a chiropractor also. She was absolutely brilliant. We moved from Iowa before I was dx'd with Celiac, so the issue was never addressed. She did so much to improve the health of my husband and myself. Have you given the n.a.e.t. treatment a try? If so, does your chiro only... -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie Spice
Jonesy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When a recipe calls for pumpkin pie spice, is there any special brand I should look for?. I usually just use cinnamin and nutmeg, but I'm not sure if they are gluten-free either. Thanks for any help Cooking is a cross to bear and being celiac makes it even more work than it used to be. -
I'm always substituting stuff in recipes, and discovered that often when wine is called for it's because of it's acidic nature. I often use orange juice in place of vinegar or wine. Anyone else have recipes where you have done this?

ARCHIVED Green Bean Casserole... How Do You Make It gluten-free?
Jonesy replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hope you all have a safe gluten-free Thanksgiving. Here's my 2 cents on the Green bean cassarole. I will be going to DD's house and will be taking the green bean cassarole. I will use the traditional recipe with a 2 substitutions: the mushroom soup and the onion rings. For the mushroom soup, I can use Progresso or I can make my own: To... -
MissKris This cassarole sounds good. Can you give us more details about it. I'd like to try it but can't visualize the steps (I'm not much of a cook) So, do you cook the cheese and bacon in with the scrambled eggs? My idea of a cassarole is a dish of several ingredients mixed and then baked in an oven. How long do you bake it? Do you...

ARCHIVED Substitution Ideas For A Casserole
Jonesy replied to tarnalberry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Tiffany for posting my question. I'm the one who wanted to know. I put my creative hat on and will be serving this cassarole at the family get-together tomorrow. To replace the Jiffy corn muffin mix, I followed the recipe for corn bread on the package of corn meal, just using the dry ingredients, and substituting Bob's Red Mill all purpose... -

ARCHIVED Here's A Possible Connection Between Celiac And
Jonesy replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi jnkmnky That was an interesting link. It does make sense. I'm particularly interested in the link between celiac and Schizophrenia. My brother was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in the 1950's. Then in the 1980's a granddaughter was diagnosed with Manic Depressive disorder. They asked about a family link, but we didn't know of any except for my... -

ARCHIVED Gf Make-up
Jonesy replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi I did a search for lipstick and ended up in this forum about other make up products also. I am in a state of total shock. If gluten-free makeup is that expensive, I'll have to go barefaced! No way can I fork out the kind of money charged for Bare Escentuals, or MAC. One year (before dx) I went all out and bought some Clinique products, but I couldn... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal?
Jonesy replied to carriecraig's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Regarding Gluten withdrawal, I remember asking the same question earlier this month, but I can't find the post. I went gluten-free on June 16th this year and my energy level was like a yo yo, and I was surprised that I felt worse instead of better. My son-in-law (LPN) suggested that maybe I was missing some carbs and to check and make sure I was getting... -
ARCHIVED Products Containing Wheat
Jonesy replied to AnnieMarie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would very much like to have your list of the good stuff. To copy it to the board, I would try the simple "select" "copy" "paste" routine. If you will send me the URL to the site that has the PDF format, I'll take a look at it and see if I can copy and paste it to this forum. maryellen@radiks.net -
Thanks for the list of Lame Advertisement products. Where would we be likely to find them? Department store cosmetics? Walgreens? Health food store? Online? Thanks. Maryellen

I'm new to blogging, too. But I did find out how to widen the page. Go to your controls. At the top of the left hand column is different settings for your blog and an About Me page, etc. In one of those settings, they let you set how many pixels wide you want your blog to be. (between 150 and 350). I set mine at 350, so you can take a look at Jonesy's blog...

I haven't really thought this through, so I'll just plunge in. I was born under the sign of Airies, and that's the way we operate First, I'll tell you that I'm happy to be a Celiac. At first I was totally dismayed in disbelief. My Dr. was more surprised that I was. I figure he was expecting to find a malignancy, and he told me he was astounded to discover...

I think we all want to know what a trackback is: also permalink. I clicked on that for a couple of blogs, but don't know what it accomplished - don't know where the permalink is saved. celiac3270, where are you? You young-uns seem to catch on so fast, I've been waiting for you to figure these things out. Scott, where are you? Please don't leave...

Thanks Jenvan I'm not a new poster, but it took a while before I got the drift of the search and how to do it. I read your post out of curiosity and you answered a question I didn't know I had. Some of the posts are so old, and I wondered if it would be okay to reply to a post that old. Some of the ones I've enjoyed go clear back to good old 2004. ...

ARCHIVED Website For Figuring Out Nutritional Value Of Food
Jonesy replied to frenchiemama's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found this website when I was using the "underweights" forum on iVillage before my celiac disease dx. They have a software program you can buy, but you can sign up for a free account and use their site to enter the foods you are eating and the amount. It adds up the proteins, fat, carbs and total calories. I used it to make sure I was getting enough... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis Question
Jonesy replied to anniej55's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There seems to be a lot of mystery about the disease in each and every case. Your pre-disposition to the disease has been there all along. There's nothing you could have done to prevent it. My GI would not even venture a guess as to how long I've had it - the Dr.'s don't know and there isn't any way for them to tell. They can tell from the biopsy just... -
Is anyone else having this problem? I can read the posts, but to see the topics I have to scroll way to the right to see when it was posted and by whom. Is this related to the updates? (updates are always buggy) Hope this is just temporary. Maryellen

I've been doing pretty good on the gluten-free diet in the month since I began. But Monday I had some La Choy chinese veggies from a can to add some flavor to my rice. I read the label and saw that it had MSG, but I had never reacted to it before to my knowledge, so I went ahead and ate it. I had been sailing along all morning, grateful for underlying...
