ARCHIVED I Am New To This... Help
LauraB0927 replied to Cole Jones's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the above comments - getting sick off of a packet of soy sauce doesn't mean you're sensitive, its filled with gluten! Any one of us would have dropped to the floor and been laid up for about a week or so! I ate gummy bears (labeled gluten free) and got extremely sick - when I looked closer at the package it said that they were made in a facility... -
Welcome to the forum!!! Glad to hear that you've been finding it helpful already. I don't buy a lot of gluten free replacement foods not only for the price, but for the fact that most of them are more loaded with carbs and calories and I'm trying to keep the weight off that the Celiac put on before my diagnosis. I will go to the gluten free bakery near...

ARCHIVED Please Help, Major Stomach Issues
LauraB0927 replied to MATT1983's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second the gatoraide suggestion - from all the vomiting and D you are having (combined with the fact that you aren't eating too much) you are probably losing tons of electrolytes which will make you feel even worse and do terrible things to your body. Make sure you are having some intake of sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphate. If you... -
ARCHIVED Migraines
LauraB0927 replied to jenarella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If there's any way you can tell when a migraine is coming on, take a pain reliever with caffeine in it (gluten-free obviously) before the pain starts and it should lessen the severity quite a bit. Taking anything after the migraine hits usually doesn't have a big affect. Usually I start to see those floating spots and get tunnel vision before my migraines... -
ARCHIVED Sciatica - What's The General Opinion?
LauraB0927 replied to kittty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I struggled with sciatica for years, once I went to the emergency room because it had gotten so bad. Getting glutened causes inflammation in my legs and joints and I've noticed that since going gluten free, I cant remember when my last sciatica "attack" was. Is it a coincidence or related? Not sure, but I'm much happier without it!!!! -
ARCHIVED Friends! Happy Friday! Please Share Your Story Of The Onset Of Your Symptoms.
LauraB0927 replied to Invictus's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HAPPY FRIDAY!!! I always had low iron levels but when I was 19 I got a horrible case of the flu and the iron levels plummeted ever since. I needed an iron infusion because I wasn't absorbing iron pills (go figure) and it helped for a little while. Now I'm 28 and I only developed GI symptoms in April of this year, right in the middle of my first semester... -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Cheat On Your Gluten Free Diet?
LauraB0927 replied to karinp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
P.S. I never had symptoms before my diagnosis either, but now, once I accidentally eat something I shouldn't, I get pretty bad reactions. You do become more sensitive over time. You may not have reactions to gluten now, but I can almost guarantee that you will. Just some "food for thought!" (No pun intended ) -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Cheat On Your Gluten Free Diet?
LauraB0927 replied to karinp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
NO WAY!!!! I'd never intentionally cheat - its the same thing as going into your garage, grabbing a bottle of antifreeze, taking a sip and saying "ok, a little bit won't hurt!" Please believe me when I say that when you are gluten free for a while and then accidentally get glutened, you will NEVER consider cheating purposely again. Is a cookie or pizza... -
She's great isnt she?! Irish Heart you are my hero!! (bows down repeatedly)

ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed But No Reaction To Eating Gluten
LauraB0927 replied to Panda123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had the exact same situation as you - no symptoms, could eat a bowl of pasta and not feel a thing. But I battled iron deficiency for years! After being gluten free for several months, NOW I have reactions to gluten. Most people seem to become more sensitive and have more reactions after being gluten free for a bit. My guess is that as the months go on... -
ARCHIVED Depo-Provera Injection
LauraB0927 replied to Vicky-1989's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I inquired about getting the Depo shot because I tend to be very forgetful (I blame it on the Celiac) and forget to take my pill. My GYN told me that she wouldn't recommend it for me not just because of the bone issues, but because it can cause severe bleeding for a while which would make my already depleted iron levels even worse. It seems (from what my... -
I'm Polish, Irish, German, and Scottish - I'm a brunette but every time I try to dye my hair it always comes out red first!! I've been told by my hair stylist that I have natural red tints in my hair - guess its the Irish or Scottish!!

ARCHIVED Primal/paleo But No Nuts?
LauraB0927 replied to Celiac Mindwarp's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm on the primal diet, go to work 9-5, and then school from 6-10pm. So I've been trying to live on primal snacks since I dont trust my school's cafeteria and obviously cant cook a steak in my classroom. Besides nuts, I always carry around with me some unsalted sunflower seeds, gluten free beef jerky, cheese, yogurt (I know its not primal, but a girl's... -
ARCHIVED Funny Things That Happened To Me Along The Way
LauraB0927 replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hahaha yes its called Cluck-U...since they're pretty standard around here I never realized how funny the name sounded until I saw all your reactions!!! And yes, he's a keeper - very protective over me with the gluten stuff and always tries to educate other people about Celiac...most of the time I dont even have to say a word! These people he talks to probably... -
If you've only been diagnosed a few months ago, most likely your gut is still healing. Thats the case for me. I've been gluten free since May and I still get stomach problems from time to time. You could be getting glutened from somewhere - I'd start with your kitchen surfaces and cookware, but it could be anything from toothpaste to shampoo to skin products...

ARCHIVED Funny Things That Happened To Me Along The Way
LauraB0927 replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh wow I think I just almost peed my pants!!!! I'm picturing a hoof on a menu with an X though it and seeing someone make a sigh of relief after reading it!!! A couple weeks ago I went to Cluck-U chicken with my fiance because he had a craving for chicken wings. I was hungry but didnt plan on eating anything obviously because that place is over run... -
Welcome to the forum! Yes, it is very scary when you first get diagnosed and dont know where to start. Please believe me when I say that you get the hang of it eventually - now I can go into the fridge without thinking and just know what I can pull out. I do have a couple suggestions that others have given to me and have been helpful... - Remember the...

ARCHIVED Have You Guys Been So Afraid To Eat...
LauraB0927 replied to Persei V.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What helps me recover is home made chicken or beef broth - its easy on my digestive tract since there's not much to absorb and you're still getting some nutrients. You can make a big pot of it, freeze it in several small containers, and use it when necessary. Its been a lifesaver for me when I'm sick and I don't feel like eating anything. Point being,... -
ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
From my understanding you can eat as much as you want on the primal diet - a handful of nuts (cashews, pistachios) will fill me up and hold me over for a while. I always keep cheese, pumpkin seeds, beef jerky, and apple slices with me too when I'm at work. How much are you eating? Do you think you're not eating enough since you are still healing from your... -
ARCHIVED Annoyed By People Who Think They Know More
LauraB0927 replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also work as a therapist at a residential program - even though I don't need to eat with the youth, we have frequent parties where all the staff and kids are eating and its a bit frustrating when I keep having to remind everyone that I can't be eating the food as they are shoving it in my face. Even if something is inherently gluten free I stay away from... -
ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have a feeling that it's going to make you feel a whole lot better - you just seem to hear/feel your body telling you "Ok, THIS is what I wanted all along!!" Remember to put butter on everything!!! (Thats the most fun part for me) - I'll add you as a friend and let me (and the rest of us) know how you're doing!!! I give it three days and you'll be back... -
ARCHIVED Not Many Symptoms
LauraB0927 replied to karinp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never had GI symptoms except for the three days before I went to the doctor. I was waking up in the middle of the night with terrible abdominal pains, but other than that - nothing. Battled with anemia, syncope, and acid reflux for a while, but I never knew it had anything to do with the Celiac until after I was diagnosed. I was able to basically eat... -
ARCHIVED Had To Laugh - Most Idiotic Blog Ever
LauraB0927 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So I started NAET therapy at the recommendation of my dietician who is certified to practice it. She wanted to see if it will clear up some of my other emerging sensitivities and thought I'd be a good candidate. Not sure if it'll work but I'm trying to keep my mind open to see if I'll feel better. Anyway, I decided to try to do some research on NAET therapy... -
ARCHIVED I'm Celiac, Could My Sis Be Gluten Intolerant?
LauraB0927 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello everyone! Since you are all so incredibly knowledgeable and have helped me out so much thus far, I'd figure I'd throw this one out there... In May I found out that I was Celiac - I definitely was the atypical kind since I didn't experience GI symptoms before diagnosis. We found out that my mother has the DQ2 gene and my younger sister had the...
