				ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It definitely makes you feel "lighter" if that makes sense. I didnt feel weighed down like I did after eating a bowl of brown rice or rice pasta. I hope it works for you! Let us know how you're doing and if it helps!!! -

				ARCHIVED Reaction = Breathing/anxiety Issues
LauraB0927 replied to anti-soprano's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! Although I dont get anxious after a glutening, I definitely experience mood symptoms and I'm not my usual happy self. I become angry, snippy, and short with people and my fiance can tell by the look on my face that I've been glutened. Like you said, things feel "off" or "wrong" and I have an overwhelming feeling of dread and want... -
Don't be alarmed by the bone scan test, its just a preventative measure so your doctors can watch your bone density. I'm 28 and was diagnosed in May and they are sending me for the same scan in November along with the 6 month blood tests to make sure everything is ok. Just be glad that your doctor is educated and is getting you the right tests!!! We...

				ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Dating?
LauraB0927 replied to Gluten-Freed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didnt have to go through this since I was diagnosed after being engaged (it was a shocker!). But as a female your age, I have a couple suggestions. Sure, it would be easier to avoid food related dates at the beginning, just to see if you're compatible and want to take the relationship further. You also may be able to weed out who would be understanding... -

				ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I thought I needed carbs too (and I loved them so much) but I cant tell you how much better I feel when I dont have them in my system. I was feeling so crappy after about 2 months of going gluten free and its amazing to go more than several hours without a gurgle or cramp or gas. My family saw how much better I was doing and started Primal themselves. ... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Weight Loss
LauraB0927 replied to gottarun96's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed in May and originally was replacing gluten foods with gluten free substitutes like gluten free pastas, muffins, cookies, etc. I was having some reactions to them so I decided to go whole foods and follow a primal diet. Since the end of May, I've lost 17 pounds of the stubborn weight that would NOT come off while I was still eating gluten... -

ARCHIVED Suffering Depression - Medication Question
LauraB0927 replied to Raining Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also have Celiac but I'm a mental health therapist for adolescents in a psychiatric hospital. Please know that anti-depressants take AT LEAST 3 to 4 weeks to start having an effect because it needs to build up a therapeutic level in your system. There are side effects that your doctor should make you aware of, and I am not a fan of regular physicians... -

				ARCHIVED 12 Weeks Gluten Free
LauraB0927 replied to Ranne10's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unlike some people on the forum I wasn't terribly sick when I was diagnosed - I actually had no symptoms at all except for anemia and acid reflux. I could eat anything and feel fine not knowing that I was slowly killing my intestines. However, once I started going gluten free, after two months of a honeymoon period I began experiencing more sensitivities... -

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take To Feel Bad After Eating Gluten
LauraB0927 replied to Big D's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lol ok just checking! I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope that you can find some answers to your symptoms. I've dealt with anemia too and it got to a point where one summer I developed pica and all I ate were ice chips. My mom got so freaked out that she took me to the doctor and I was made to have an iron infusion via IV. My anemia improved and... -

				ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For breakfast I make this incredibly yummy crust-less quiche that consists of eggs, cheese, canadian bacon, and spinach cooked in olive oil. I'll make a huge tin of it on a Sunday (takes no more than 30 mins to make) and then I take pieces to eat at work all though the week. Or I'll make a batch of hard boiled eggs, bring a few of those, a cheese stick... -

ARCHIVED Not Been Diagnosed Or Tested, But Suspecting Celiac...
LauraB0927 replied to Rielyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't be afraid to be somewhat insistent to have the testing done - they hopefully shouldnt give you a hard time, its not like you're asking for a surgery to be done, just a few simple blood tests. I always remind myself that its MY body and I need to make sure my doctors are doing whats right for it. I second the above comment - dont start eating gluten... -

ARCHIVED Not Been Diagnosed Or Tested, But Suspecting Celiac...
LauraB0927 replied to Rielyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yay that you got your insurance back! I'm still kind of new at this thing too since I was diagnosed in May of this year but this is what I would specifically request from the doctor - - Tell him/her that you have Celiac in your family and you believe you are experiencing some symptoms, ask them to run a full Celiac blood panel. These are the blood panel... -

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take To Feel Bad After Eating Gluten
LauraB0927 replied to Big D's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First my question is, do you have Celiac? Or have a gluten intolerance or allergy? I saw that you said you are going to eventually re-introduce gluten, is that to see if you are intolerant? If you haven't been tested yet, I'd get the full Celiac panel testing done before starting an elimination diet, especially if you are suspecting that gluten is the... -

ARCHIVED Is Alcohol Dangerous For Celiac
LauraB0927 replied to BKA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess my first question would be, have you both started eating gluten free? I recently posted my own thread about this because I noticed that although I was pretty much a lightweight prior to going gluten free, I've become much more sensitive to alcohol after being on my gluten free diet for a while. I used to be able to have 5 drinks and feel pretty... -

ARCHIVED Having Trouble Accepting The Diagnosis
LauraB0927 replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can definitely understand where you are coming from when the diagnosis is a complete shock. I was able to eat pasta, pizza, bread without any issues at all. Like you, I never had GI symptoms pre-diagnosis and the only symptoms I ever struggled with were anemia, acid-reflux, and some chest pain/burning from time to time. I thought these issues were unrelated... -

				ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ok, so interestingly enough I think my body is telling me that Primal is the way to go.....I've been pretty good at following the diet for the last week except for some non-raw cheese here and there. My sister came back from her vacation today and we all went to PF Changs for lunch. I figured one day of cheating a bit couldn't be that bad and I will go... -

ARCHIVED Interesting, Gluten Topicals Reaction? :o
LauraB0927 replied to arian's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From the best of my understanding it doesn't absorb into your bloodstream, the more likely option is that you used these products and then put your hands/fingers near your mouth and thats how the culprit got in. Or, as you were washing the shampoo/body wash off, some ran over your lips and you may have licked your lips afterwards - it only takes a small... -

				ARCHIVED Going The Primal Route....
LauraB0927 replied to LauraB0927's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I havent't yet experienced any mood symptoms but I still get pretty tired in the middle of the day. Granted, that also happened before I started the Primal/Paleo diet. For the past couple weeks (only started Primal/Paleo last week) I've just felt more fatigued and low energy, but I was also feeling pretty crappy with eating the processed foods, which I... -

I'm sorry to hear that you and your hubby got sick, but that's great that you wanna keep going with it! I continue to see steady results and like I said in an earlier post this is the first time in several weeks that I haven't had cramps or reactions to food. I wish you the best! I'm so glad that I tried this and I cant tell you how appreciative I am for all the support I've found on the forum. The past few days have been pain/cramp/D/C free which I haven't had in a few weeks. I was starting to become frustrated and needed a big change. eatmeat4good - I'm so glad that I can eat my cheese! ARCHIVED Gi Symptoms & Behavior
LauraB0927 replied to Carpe227's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely had a lot of neurological symptoms before my diagnosis and they seemed to have gotten worse after going gluten free and accidentally being exposed. I had tingling in my hands and would get terrible cases of sciatica and would even faint - the doctors diagnosed me with syncope. All these random symptoms didnt make sense until I was diagnosed... -
